Keep background activity enabled for apps that need to deliver timely messages, and treat Power Saving as a tradeoff rather than a default.
1. Find what is using battery before changing settings
Start with your phone’s battery-usage screen. OPPO says ColorOS 14 and above users can open Settings > Battery and scroll to the Battery usage section. On ColorOS 5.1 and above, the documented path is Settings > Battery > Battery usage by app. Labels and availability can vary by model and software version; see OPPO’s battery-usage instructions if the path on your phone differs.

Review both foreground use (when you are actively using an app) and background activity. Look for an app whose background use seems unusually high compared with how often you open it. There is no universal percentage that makes an app a problem: compare it with your own normal use, ideally across ordinary days rather than judging from one unusual day.
2. Restrict only apps that do not need to run in the background
Background activity is not automatically waste. It can be what lets an app sync or deliver notifications while you are doing something else. If you restrict the wrong app, messages or updates may arrive late. OPPO discusses reviewing auto-launch and power-hungry apps in its battery guidance.

For an app that does not need prompt updates, try limiting its background activity or auto-launch using the controls available on your model. Change one app at a time, then check whether it still behaves as you expect. Keep restrictions off essential messaging, work, security, or other apps whose alerts and syncing you rely on.
3. Lower refresh rate selectively, if your phone supports it
A high refresh rate can make scrolling and motion look smoother, but it can also use more power. OPPO’s ColorOS 14 guidance describes per-app refresh-rate choices of 60 Hz, 90 Hz, or 120 Hz. If that control is available on your device, you can keep a higher rate for games or apps where fluid motion matters and try a lower rate for reading or utility apps. OPPO’s description is a settings option, not a measured guarantee of extra battery time; judge the tradeoff on your own phone. See OPPO’s ColorOS customization overview for its feature description.

4. Use power-saving modes when their limits suit the situation
Standard Power Saving is useful when you need to stretch a charge and can accept some reductions. OPPO says the mode can reduce screen brightness, disable some background apps, and limit certain CPU functions. Those changes may affect comfort or background behavior, so use it when the tradeoff is worthwhile, such as when you are away from a charger.

The available controls and menu path vary by ColorOS version; OPPO UK provides version-specific guidance, but regional models may differ. Check your phone’s own Battery settings or its model-specific support guide rather than assuming one universal path: OPPO UK’s Super Power Saving guide and OPPO Global’s ColorOS feature overview.

5. Distinguish today’s runtime from long-term battery health
Charging features address battery aging over time; they do not mean the phone will run longer on the charge you have today. OPPO describes ColorOS 14 Smart Charging and an optional setting to stop charging at 80% as ways to help slow battery aging. Availability depends on the model and software version. OPPO also says its Battery Health Engine can keep a battery at 80% capacity after more than four years of regular use; that is the company’s own claim, not an independently verified result or a guarantee for every phone. These options have different aims, so start with diagnosis and the least disruptive change. Exact benefits are not universal: OPPO’s published feature descriptions do not establish a fixed number of hours or percentage of battery saved for any one setting. If a setting described here is missing, check guidance for your exact model and ColorOS version.
