To improve iPad Pro battery life, first open Settings > Battery and find what is using power. Then address the cause: reduce screen brightness or idle screen time, limit unnecessary background activity, improve a weak network connection, or use Low Power Mode when you need extra runtime. Battery Health and charging settings help with longer-term battery wear, but they do not all apply to every iPad Pro.
Why is my iPad Pro battery draining so fast?
Start with the Battery page rather than turning off features at random. Apple’s battery-drain guidance, published September 17, 2026, recommends reviewing usage and its suggestions before changing settings.

- Open Settings > Battery.
- Compare Daily Usage with the previous seven days.
- Review App and System Activity Usage, along with any suggestions or Insights Apple displays.
- Look for a specific cause—such as background activity, high brightness, or prolonged screen-on time—and change that behavior first.
An app listed with Background Activity may be playing audio or using location services while it is not on screen. Reduce that app’s use or adjust the activity responsible, rather than disabling unrelated features.
If the drain began just after an iPadOS update or a new-device setup, background work may be temporary. Apple recommends waiting a few days, then checking Battery usage again.

Check connectivity and notifications
Weak Wi-Fi or cellular reception can use more power as the iPad searches for a connection. Use a stronger signal where possible; for internet access, Apple says Wi-Fi uses less battery than cellular. Notifications can also wake the iPad, so consider reducing alerts from apps that do not need to notify you frequently. If you will be somewhere without coverage for a while, Airplane Mode can help, but it disables wireless connections.
How can I reduce screen-related battery use?
The display can be a substantial source of power use, especially when it is brighter than necessary or remains on while the iPad is idle. If Battery settings point to either issue, try these adjustments:
- Lower brightness to a comfortable level.
- Turn on Auto-Brightness if Apple suggests it or if you want brightness to adapt automatically.
- Set a reasonable Auto-Lock interval so the display turns off when you are not using the iPad.
These changes trade some screen brightness or idle convenience for longer runtime; choose settings that suit how and where you use the iPad.

- DIGITAL SCREEN KEEPS YOU AWARE OF BATTERY LIFE: This powerful Belkin power bank is designed with a digital screen that tells you the power bank’s battery status, so you always know when it’s time to recharge.
It reduces power use for essential tasks and may make some tasks slower. On iPad Pro models with ProMotion, it limits the display refresh rate to 60 frames per second, which can be noticeable when scrolling or viewing animations. Low Power Mode switches off automatically when the iPad charges to 80 percent or higher.
How do I check whether the battery itself needs service?
On supported models, open Settings > Battery > Battery Health. If the status says Service, Apple advises considering battery replacement and following the onscreen instructions. Battery Health is not available on every iPad model, and a single day of poor runtime does not by itself establish that the battery needs service: workload, reception, setup activity, brightness, and temperature can all affect how long a charge lasts.
Apple says iPad batteries are designed to retain 80 percent of their original capacity at 1,000 complete charge cycles, depending on how they are used and charged. This is a design expectation, not a guarantee for every iPad or a precise prediction of an individual battery’s condition.

Use the 80 percent charge limit only if your model supports it
Apple lists the 80 percent charge limit for iPad Pro (M4) and later. On an eligible iPad, find it at Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Limiting time spent fully charged can reduce battery wear, but leaves less charge available for the day; it is a battery-longevity measure, not a way to get more runtime from one charge. With the limit enabled, charging typically stops near 80 percent and resumes at 75 percent. The iPad may occasionally charge to 100 percent to keep its charge estimates accurate.

Keep charging temperatures moderate
Apple identifies 16°C to 22°C (62°F to 72°F) as the ideal ambient range for iPad battery performance. Using or charging the iPad above 35°C (95°F) can permanently reduce battery lifespan. Cold conditions can temporarily shorten runtime or stop charging. Avoid direct sun and hot vehicles; if the iPad heats up while charging, remove a case that is trapping heat.
On iPadOS 18 or later, thermally limited charging can slow or pause charging when the device is too warm or cold, then resume automatically once it returns to a safe temperature. See Apple’s guide to thermally limited charging.
Charge when convenient
You do not need to drain an iPad completely before charging it, and Apple says it can be charged overnight. It stops charging automatically when full, then resumes if the charge falls below 95 percent. Apple’s general expectation is that “For most customers, the battery in your iPad should last the whole day,” as stated in About charging and maintaining your iPad battery, published February 3, 2026. That is not a guarantee for every model, workload, or battery condition.
Do not routinely disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Apple says Wi-Fi and Bluetooth use minimal power when they are not connected to a network or accessory. Turning them off can disable features, so switching them off is not a universal battery fix.
What if I need more time away from an outlet?
A compatible USB-C power bank can recharge a USB-C iPad Pro while you are away from a wall outlet. It provides another charging source; it does not increase the iPad’s unplugged runtime per charge. Check your iPad model and the accessory’s output before choosing one. Apple documents charging and connections through the USB-C port on iPad.
