Check the live StoneBlock 4 requirements page immediately before downloading. Feed The Beast’s figures are release-sensitive and can change as the pack is updated.

The StoneBlock 4 versions page identifies the pack as released on 29 October 2025 and last updated on 9 September 2026. The server-files browser currently shows release 1.23.0 with version ID 100554 (checked 14 October 2026). Those values are not permanent: select a deliberate release rather than assuming the newest entry is compatible with an existing world.

Host hardware and operating system
- Reserve at least 6 GB of RAM for the server; 8 GB gives the headroom Feed The Beast recommends. Leave additional memory for Windows, macOS, Linux, Java overhead, and any other services.
- Use a 64-bit operating system and a stable wired connection when possible. A computer that sleeps, reboots for updates, or loses network access will take the server offline.
- Use a dedicated directory for the server. Keep world backups in a separate location so a bad update or accidental deletion cannot remove both the live world and its backup.
Java choices
The FTB installer can download its own Java copy. That is usually the simplest route for a new installation. The installer README documents a -no-java switch for hosts that already have a suitable Java installation. If you choose that switch, verify that the installed runtime is Java 21 before starting the server; an older Java version can prevent the NeoForge process from launching.
Download the official server files
- Open Feed The Beast’s StoneBlock 4 page and its server-files browser.
- Select the release that matches the clients you intend to run. The browser exposes pack ID 130 and release/version identifiers; record the selected version for your players.
- Choose the installer for the host operating system and CPU architecture. The browser provides separate Intel/AMD and ARM macOS choices, as well as Windows and Linux downloads.
- Save the installer inside the new server directory. Do not place it in the client’s installation folder or in a directory containing another modpack’s files.
Downloading from the official browser matters because the installer knows how to fetch and extract the pack’s matching libraries, mods, configuration, and launch files. Third-party mirrors can contain an incomplete or different release.

Install on Windows
- Create a folder such as
C:MinecraftStoneBlock4. Use a path you can back up easily and avoid a location synchronized by a cloud drive while the server is running. - Run the Windows installer executable you downloaded. Approve the operating-system security prompt only after confirming that the file came from the official FTB server-files page.
- When the installer asks setup questions, keep the destination inside the dedicated server folder. If it offers Java installation, allow it unless you intentionally manage Java yourself.
- Wait for the installer to download and extract every file. Interrupting the process can leave a partial installation; rerun the installer in the same directory if that happens.
- Open the generated folder and double-click
run.bat. A command window should remain open while the server starts. Do not close it to “finish” startup; closing it stops the server.
The first launch normally creates or updates files such as server.properties, a world directory, logs, and the EULA file. Startup can take several minutes while NeoForge builds caches, especially on a first run.

Install on macOS or Linux
- Create and enter the dedicated directory, for example
mkdir -p ~/stoneblock4-serverfollowed bycd ~/stoneblock4-server. - Download the installer that matches the machine’s architecture. Apple-silicon Macs need the ARM option; Intel Macs and conventional x86-64 Linux machines need the Intel/AMD option.
- In a terminal opened in that directory, grant execute permission with
chmod +x installer-file, replacinginstaller-filewith the filename you downloaded. - Run the installer from the same directory. On a Unix-like shell, prefix a local file with
./; for example, use./installer-filewith the actual filename. - Answer the installer’s questions and wait for the download and extraction to complete.
- Start the generated script with
./run.sh. Keep the terminal session attached while testing, or use an appropriate service manager or terminal multiplexer after you have confirmed the server works.
If macOS blocks the installer, check its security prompt and confirm that the file was downloaded from FTB. On Linux, a “permission denied” message normally means the chmod +x step was skipped or applied to the wrong filename.
Installer options for repeatable setups
The installer README documents switches that are useful when you need to reproduce an installation or automate it:

Use the README that ships with the installer for the exact syntax supported by the release you downloaded. Do not copy switches from an older pack installer without checking that they are still recognized.

Accept the EULA and complete first startup
- Start
run.batorrun.shonce. - Read the generated EULA file and, if you agree to Mojang’s terms, change the EULA acceptance entry as instructed by the file.
- Start the script again. The server should proceed past the EULA check and continue loading NeoForge and StoneBlock 4.
- Watch the console for a ready message before connecting. If it stops with an error, inspect the newest log in the
logsdirectory rather than repeatedly restarting.
The exact filenames and wording can vary between releases, so follow the files generated by your selected installer version.
Enable command blocks for StoneBlock 4 structures
Open server.properties in a text editor while the server is stopped and set:
enable-command-block=trueCurseForge’s StoneBlock 4 server-owner note states that this setting is required; structures will not function correctly when command blocks are disabled. Save the file, then restart the server. Editing the file while the process is running can be overwritten when the server shuts down.

Configure memory and launch behavior
Use the generated launch script as the primary startup method. If you need to change Java memory, inspect the script or the accompanying configuration file for the release-specific JVM arguments rather than inventing a new command line. Allocate no less than the documented 6 GB minimum and aim for 8 GB, while leaving enough RAM for the operating system and other services.
- Do not assign all physical memory to Java; the host still needs memory for the operating system, file cache, and networking.
- Increase memory only after confirming that the machine has spare capacity. More allocated RAM cannot fix a slow disk, an overloaded CPU, or a broken mod configuration.
- Keep the same launch script after updates so the installer’s arguments and paths remain intact.
Let friends connect over the internet
Players on the same home network
Give local players the host computer’s private address, such as its LAN IPv4 address, and the server port. Test from a second machine on the same network before changing router settings. The host firewall still must allow Java or the server process to accept inbound connections.
Players outside your network
- Allow the server application or Java runtime through the host operating system’s firewall for private networks, and allow public-network access only if you understand the exposure.
- Sign in to the router and create a port-forwarding rule for TCP port
25565to the host computer’s fixed private IP address. Minecraft’s official server guidance identifies this port-forwarding step for external Java Edition players. - Give friends your public IP address or a DNS name and the port if you changed it. Never publish the address in a public forum unless you accept the security and privacy implications.
- Test from a device that is not connected to the same home network, such as a phone using cellular data. A local test can succeed even when the router blocks outside traffic.
If connections fail, check the server console first: no connection attempt means the traffic is being blocked before it reaches Minecraft. Then verify the host firewall rule, the router’s destination IP, the listening port in server.properties, and whether your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT. A carrier-grade NAT setup may prevent ordinary inbound forwarding; contact the provider or use a different network arrangement.
Keep clients and the server on one release
Every player should install the same StoneBlock 4 release, Minecraft version, and NeoForge-compatible client package as the server. A client on a different pack version can fail during login, report missing mods, or generate mismatched registries. Record the release number you selected from the server-files browser and share it with the group. When updating, stop the server, back up the world, update a test copy first, and only then replace the live installation.
Backups, updates, and safe maintenance
Back up the world correctly
- Tell players to log out and stop the server cleanly from its console.
- Copy the world directory and the server configuration files to storage outside the live server directory.
- Keep more than one dated backup, including one on a different physical device or remote location.
- Occasionally restore a backup to a separate test directory. A backup that has never been restored is only an assumption.
Apply a pack update
- Note the current release and make a complete backup.
- Read the new release notes and confirm its Minecraft, NeoForge, Java, and memory requirements.
- Install the new files in a separate directory or make a verified copy of the old one.
- Start the copied server, confirm that the world loads and structures work, and check the logs for errors.
- Schedule the migration when every player can update their client. Keep the previous server directory until the new one has been played successfully.
Self-hosting versus managed StoneBlock 4 hosting
Self-hosting gives you direct control over files, backups, updates, firewall rules, and uptime. It also makes you responsible for hardware, power, networking, security, and troubleshooting. Choose self-hosting when you already have an always-on machine and are comfortable maintaining it. Choose managed hosting when avoiding router configuration, hardware upkeep, and support work is worth an ongoing fee.
Common failures and fixes
The installer will not run
- Confirm that you downloaded the installer for the correct operating system and CPU architecture.
- On macOS or Linux, apply execute permission and run it from the directory containing the file.
- Redownload if the installer stopped partway through or the file size is unexpectedly small.
The server exits immediately
- Check the console and latest log for a Java-version error. StoneBlock 4 currently requires Java 21.
- Remove
-no-javaor correct your Java path if you prevented the installer from supplying Java. - Verify that the host has enough free memory beyond the amount assigned to the server.
- Make sure the EULA acceptance file was completed exactly as instructed.
Players see missing mods or registry errors
- Confirm that the client and server use the same StoneBlock 4 release, Minecraft version, and NeoForge-compatible files.
- Do not copy a world from a newer release into an older server without a tested rollback plan.
- Compare the server log with the client’s latest log to identify the first mismatch rather than the final generic disconnect message.
Structures do not work
Stop the server, open server.properties, set enable-command-block=true, save, and restart. This setting is specifically called out for StoneBlock 4.
