You need the Java Edition modpack files on both sides of the connection. Installing only a vanilla Minecraft server, a different Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons generation, or an unrelated Forge profile will not produce a compatible server.
Use the exact supported version
The authoritative project listing targets Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge. The latest listed client release is R.A.D-T.C.E. 1.03, and the corresponding server artifact is RAD-TiC-Serverpack-1.03. Treat the release number as part of the server address: every player must match it before connecting.

Choose between self-hosting and managed hosting
Self-hosting gives you control over files, backups, upgrades and the machine’s location, but you must maintain Java, Forge, the operating system, firewall rules, network reachability and recovery copies. A managed Minecraft host handles the machine and network through a control panel, which is useful if your group does not want to administer a server.

Prepare a self-hosted machine
Use a dedicated directory
Create a new directory used only for this server, such as RAD-TiC-Server. Keeping the instance separate prevents files from another modpack or an older RAD generation from being mixed into the installation. Use a location that the account running the server can read and write, and leave enough storage for the generated world, logs, backups and future updates.
Install a compatible Java runtime
The indexed official project pages do not publish a complete Java-version matrix. Before selecting a Java runtime, open the server archive’s readme or installation notes and follow the version it specifies for this Forge build. Do not assume that the Java version used by a modern Minecraft release is correct for a 1.12.2 Forge pack. After installing Java, verify that the command available to the server account points to that runtime rather than to a different system installation.
Plan access and backups
- Decide whether the server is private, invite-only or publicly reachable.
- Know which local address the server binds to and which external address friends will use.
- Allow the Minecraft server process through the operating-system firewall only on the needed network profile.
- Arrange an offline or separate-disk backup location before creating a long-running world.
- Keep a copy of the server archive, configuration files, world save and a list of installed versions together.
Install the official server pack
- Open the official project listing. In CurseForge, locate the Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons TiC Edition project owned by dreams01 and open its file listing.
- Choose the server artifact. Download
RAD-TiC-Serverpack-1.03, identified for Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge. Do not download the ordinary client zip or a server pack from RAD, RAD2 or another release line. - Extract into the dedicated directory. Preserve the archive’s directory structure. If extraction creates a second nested folder, move the actual server files into the directory you intend to launch.
- Read the supplied instructions. Look for the archive readme and identify the included launch script. The exact script filename is package-dependent, so use the name in the downloaded archive rather than guessing.
- Run the first start. Start the included Forge server script from the server directory. A first launch normally creates or updates configuration files and begins world generation; wait for the process to finish that initialization.
Do not launch the server from a different working directory. Forge and the pack expect to find the mods, config, libraries and world files relative to the server directory.

Accept the EULA and configure the server
Accept Minecraft’s EULA
The first launch may stop after creating eula.txt. Open that file, read the linked Minecraft EULA, and change the setting to eula=true only if you agree to it. Save the file and launch the same Forge script again. A server that has not recorded acceptance will not continue to world generation.
Review server.properties
Open server.properties in a plain-text editor. At minimum, review:
- World identity: Set the world name before generating a permanent world. Changing it later can make the server load a different directory.
- Difficulty: Choose the intended difficulty for your group; the pack includes scaling difficulty and demanding combat encounters.
- Whitelist: Enable and maintain a whitelist for a private group. Add player names from the server console or the supported administration interface.
- Network binding: Leave the address setting appropriate for the machine unless you have a specific multi-interface requirement.
- Game port: Keep the configured port consistent with firewall and router rules. Tell players the port if it is not the default shown in the file.
- Online authentication: Understand the security consequences before changing authentication-related settings; do not disable protections merely to bypass a mod mismatch.
- Message and visibility: Set the server description and any view or simulation settings conservatively while you establish stability.
Stop the server cleanly before editing configuration or replacing files. Never edit the world while the process is writing to it.

Start the world and make it reachable
- Launch the supplied script again. Keep the console open and wait until Forge reports that the server has finished loading and is ready for commands.
- Test locally first. From a client on the same machine or local network, connect using the server’s local address and configured port. This separates pack problems from router or internet problems.
- Configure the firewall. Permit the Java server process or the configured game port on the correct network profile. Avoid opening unrelated ports.
- Configure router forwarding when required. If friends are outside your home network, forward the configured Minecraft port to the server machine’s stable local address. A changing local address can silently break the rule, so reserve it in the router when possible.
- Share the correct address. Give local players the local address; give remote players your public address and port. Do not publish a private address as if it were reachable from the internet.
- Test from outside your network. Ask a friend to connect while you watch the server console. A successful local test followed by a remote timeout usually indicates firewall, forwarding, carrier-grade NAT or provider network restrictions rather than a mod mismatch.
Install the matching client for every player
Each player should create an instance for R.A.D-T.C.E. 1.03 through the launcher that distributes the pack, then confirm that it targets Minecraft 1.12.2 with the matching Forge build. Do not copy only the server’s mods folder into a vanilla profile: the pack also depends on configuration and client-side files.
- Open the launcher and find the Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons TiC Edition project.
- Select release
R.A.D-T.C.E. 1.03, not a similarly named RAD or RAD2 profile. - Let the launcher install the complete client pack and its Forge profile.
- Start the client once in single-player or the launcher test screen so files finish generating.
- Compare the displayed Minecraft and Forge versions with the server’s archive and startup log.
- Enter the server address only after the profile starts without missing-mod or loader errors.
A client can fail even when its visible pack name looks right if its Forge build, individual mod file, configuration or optional update differs. Compare the complete version string and files, not just the launcher icon.
Verify the first connection
What a healthy startup looks like
- The Forge process remains running instead of closing immediately.
- The console completes world generation and accepts server commands.
- The client reaches the world rather than stopping at a missing-mod or handshake screen.
- The player can move, interact and return without the server repeatedly saving or crashing.
Record a known-good baseline
Once the first connection works, record the pack release, Minecraft version, Forge build, Java runtime, server address settings and backup location. Save a copy of the initial server log. This baseline lets you identify whether a later failure began after a mod update, configuration change, Java change or network change.

When reporting a problem, capture the server log, client log, exact pack release, Forge version, Java version and the first error rather than only the final disconnect message. Avoid changing gameplay settings until version and network checks are complete.
Use a managed host instead
Managed hosting is appropriate when you want public reachability, a control panel and provider support without maintaining the operating system and router. Select the exact R.A.D-T.C.E. project in the provider’s modpack installer, then verify the resulting server files and version before inviting players.

Managed-host setup checklist
- Choose a plan based on allocated RAM, CPU performance, storage, backup retention and expected concurrent players; there is no authoritative player-count benchmark for this pack.
- Install only the listed R.A.D-T.C.E. 1.03 release, or upload the matching server pack if the panel requires manual installation.
- Wait for the provider’s Forge installation to finish, then inspect the console for the Minecraft 1.12.2 target and successful mod loading.
- Set the EULA, whitelist, difficulty, world name and other server properties through the panel or generated files.
- Start the server and test with one client using the exact

Resource planning without invented benchmarks
The pack contains many exploration, dungeon, dimension, boss, magic, dragon and Tinkers’ Construct systems. Those features can increase the amount of world generation and entity processing, but the official project pages do not publish an independent RAM, CPU or tested-player benchmark. Do not promise a fixed player count from a RAM number alone.
- Memory: Compare the memory actually allocated to the Java process, not only the host’s headline total. Leave headroom for the operating system and file cache.
- CPU: A fast processor core can matter during world generation and tick processing. Review sustained CPU usage while players explore new terrain.
- Storage: Dimensions and exploration expand the world directory. Monitor free space and keep backups on a separate location.
- Network: Upload capacity and latency affect remote players. A server can be healthy locally while an undersized connection causes outside lag.
- Concurrency: Start with a small group, observe logs and system metrics, then increase the player count gradually instead of assuming a provider’s minimum memory is a capacity guarantee.
Backups, updates and safe maintenance
Back up before every change
Stop the server cleanly, copy the world directory, config, mods, server properties, whitelist and launch instructions, and label the backup with the pack and Forge versions. Keep at least one copy away from the machine. A backup made while the process is writing can be incomplete, so do not simply copy an active world and assume it is recoverable.
Update deliberately
Do not replace the server pack because a newer RAD, RAD2 or unrelated release appears in a launcher. First confirm that the TiC Edition project lists a compatible release, read its change notes, and decide whether every client can update at the same time. Test an update on a copy of the world before applying it to the live instance. Keep the previous server directory so you can roll back without reconstructing files.
Protect administration
- Use a whitelist for a private group and remove former players promptly.
- Give operator privileges only to trusted administrators.
- Do not share console credentials or panel API keys in chat.
- Review logs after crashes, unexpected joins and permission changes.
- Keep the operating system, Java runtime and host control panel maintained according to their respective security guidance.
Final pre-launch checklist

If you do not want to maintain Java, networking and backups, a managed host can perform the machine-side setup, but you still must verify the installed pack and keep clients synchronized.
