To host a Cobblemon server, first identify the exact pack and Minecraft version you intend to run. A current, unmodified Cobblemon setup targets Minecraft 1.21.1, normally uses Fabric, and requires Java 21, Fabric API, Cobblemon, and its required library. The original Beyond the Pixelverse server pack is an older Minecraft 1.19.2 release, while Beyond the Pixelverse 2 is built for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge. Those packs are not interchangeable with a generic 1.21.1 installation. Match the pack, Minecraft version, loader, Cobblemon build, and dependencies on the server and every client before troubleshooting anything else.

Choose the correct Beyond the Pixelverse version first
Beyond the Pixelverse is a CurseForge modpack rather than a separate server software project. It packages the Cobblemon mod with a curated set of Minecraft mods. The server must therefore run the pack’s exact server files, not simply the newest Cobblemon release.

| Beyond the Pixelverse original server pack | 1.19.2 | Use the loader and files bundled or specified by that pack | Use the listed version 2.1 server pack, if it is still the pack you downloaded |
| Beyond the Pixelverse 2 | 1.20.1 | Forge | Use the pack’s released server files; a new server pack was reportedly being prepared, so confirm availability before installing |
The captured listings also show conflicting reports for the newest 1.21.1 Cobblemon build: one reports version 1.8.1 released on September 12, 2026, while another reports version 1.8.0, “Make Your Move,” released on September 6, 2026. Treat both numbers as unconfirmed until the official Cobblemon download page or the pack’s own file page identifies the build you need. For a modpack, the pack’s manifest wins over a later standalone release.
Hardware and software requirements
Java 21
Install a 64-bit Java 21 runtime and confirm it from a terminal before starting the server:

java -version
Older Java versions have been reported to crash during startup. If the command prints Java 8, 17, or another release, install Java 21 and make sure the server’s startup script points to that executable rather than an older system copy.
Memory planning
RAM requirements depend on player count, render distance, world activity, and add-on mods. These are practical starting points, not guarantees:
| Players | Suggested allocation | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 1–4 | 6 GB | Leave additional memory for the operating system, Java overhead, backups, and other services |
| About 5–10 | 8 GB | Monitor lag while several players explore different areas |
| About 10 players | 6–8 GB may work for a lightly modified setup | Add-ons and high exploration load can require more |
| 15 or more | 12 GB | Use a faster CPU and test world-generation load before inviting a large group |
| Modpack with substantial add-ons | 10–12 GB | Do not give all physical RAM to Java; preserve room for the operating system and backups |
A small private server can begin at 6 GB and be increased after observing the server console and in-game tick performance. More RAM cannot compensate for an incompatible loader, an outdated Java runtime, or a slow CPU.
Network and storage
- Reserve enough disk space for the server files, generated world, logs, backups, and future mod updates.
- Use an SSD where possible; Cobblemon exploration creates and loads many chunks.
- The default Minecraft port is TCP 25565. Players outside your home network need a router port-forwarding rule to the host computer’s local IP address.
- Use a stable wired connection when practical. Upload bandwidth and latency affect remote players more than download speed.
Self-host a current Fabric Cobblemon server
These steps describe a current, standalone Cobblemon installation targeting Minecraft 1.21.1. Do not apply them blindly to either Beyond the Pixelverse pack; those packs require their own version and loader.
1. Create a dedicated server folder
Create a folder such as Cobblemon-Server on a drive with adequate free space. Keeping the server separate from your client installation makes backups, permissions, and upgrades easier.
Rank #2
- ULTIMATE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, five Bedrock add-ons, five exclusive Character Creator items, and 1000 Minecoins.
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.

2. Install the matching Fabric server files
Download the Fabric server launcher for the Minecraft version required by your Cobblemon build. Run it from the server folder so it creates the libraries and launch files there. Fabric is generally the least complicated path for Cobblemon. NeoForge is possible, but its Cobblemon port can lag behind releases and Forge-based installations require Kotlin.
3. Add Cobblemon and dependencies
Place the Cobblemon mod and its one required library in the server’s mods folder. Fabric installations also need Fabric API. Every mod must match the server’s Minecraft version and loader. Do not mix a Fabric jar with a Forge or NeoForge server.
4. Accept the EULA
Start the server once. When it stops and creates eula.txt, open that file, read the license, and change eula=false to eula=true only if you accept it. Start the server again.
5. Launch with an explicit memory limit
A 6 GB starting command is:
java -Xmx6G -Xms6G -jar server.jar nogui
Replace server.jar with the actual launcher filename. -Xms6G sets the initial heap and -Xmx6G sets the maximum. Increase both only when your machine has sufficient unused memory. Running with nogui avoids the graphical server window and is convenient for a terminal or service account.
6. Configure basic server settings
After the first successful start, stop the server by entering stop in its console. Edit server.properties for options such as the message of the day, difficulty, whitelist, view distance, and player limit. Leave server-port=25565 unless another application already uses that port. Start the server again and confirm that it reaches a ready state without missing-mod errors.

Install a Beyond the Pixelverse server pack
Use the pack’s server download, not the client profile
A client modpack export is not automatically a complete dedicated server. Download the server pack specifically associated with the exact Beyond the Pixelverse release. The original pack’s listing identifies a version 2.1 server pack for Minecraft 1.19.2. Beyond the Pixelverse 2 is listed for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge, and its creator was reportedly preparing a server pack; verify that the server files have actually been published before proceeding.
Follow the included loader and startup files
Extract the server pack into a clean folder and read its included instructions. It may contain a Forge installer, a start script, configuration files, and a curated mods directory. Do not replace those files with a newer Cobblemon jar because the pack’s other mods may depend on the older build.
Check the manifest before starting
- Confirm the Minecraft version shown in the pack manifest.
- Confirm whether the pack uses Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge.
- Use the Java version required by that Minecraft generation; Java 21 is the stated requirement for the current Cobblemon line, while an older pack may document different compatibility.
- Keep the server’s configuration and mod list identical to the pack’s intended release.
If a server pack is unavailable, you can technically reconstruct a server from the mod list, but that is a different project: dependencies, configuration files, world-generation settings, and scripted content may be missing. For a reliable Pixelverse world, wait for or obtain the pack’s own server distribution.
Make the server reachable outside your home
Find the host computer’s local address
Give the host computer a stable local address through your router’s DHCP reservation, or configure a static address according to your operating system. A port-forwarding rule that points to a changing address will stop working after a reboot.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Create the port-forwarding rule
- Open your router’s administration page.
- Create a rule for TCP port
25565(or the custom port inserver.properties). - Set the destination to the host computer’s local IP address.
- Allow Java or the server process through the host firewall when prompted.
- Give remote players your public IP address and port, unless you use a properly configured DNS name.
Players on the same home network should connect with the host’s local address. If remote connections fail while local connections work, check the forwarding target, firewall, public-address changes, and whether your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT. Some connections cannot accept inbound forwarding without a public IPv4 address or an alternative networking arrangement.

Prepare every player’s client
Cobblemon supports Java Edition, not Bedrock Edition. Each player must install the same Minecraft version, mod loader, Cobblemon version, and dependency set as the server. Fabric clients need Fabric API; Forge-based clients need the required Kotlin component. A client that is missing a dependency or has even a different mod build commonly fails during loading or disconnects when joining.
- Install the loader named by the server or modpack.
- Install the exact pack profile, or copy the server’s approved mod versions into the client’s
modsfolder where appropriate. - Launch once in single-player to let the loader create configuration files.
- Use the server address and connect only after the client reaches the title screen without errors.
Do not distribute server-only utilities to clients unless the pack documentation says they are required on both sides. Conversely, some client performance or interface mods are harmless but can still create compatibility problems; begin with the pack’s unmodified client profile.

A managed host avoids home-router configuration and usually provides automated installation, backups, console access, and a persistent public address. Confirm the exact pack version and memory allocation before paying, because a listing for a similarly named pack may target a different Minecraft release.
| Provider listing | Pack advertised | Published memory detail | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| BisectHosting | Beyond the Pixelverse | Recommends 6 GB RAM | Whether the installed image is the original 1.19.2 pack and whether backups are included |
| CreeperHost | Beyond the Pixelverse 2 | States a 4,500 MB minimum | Whether that minimum is sufficient for your player count and the exact 1.20.1 Forge build |
| ScalaCube | Both packs listed in its control panel | Not stated in the captured listing | Selected pack version, loader, storage, backups, and upgrade controls |
| BoxToPlay | Original Beyond the Pixelverse | One-click installation advertised | Pack release number, allocated RAM, and whether you can upload a matching server pack manually |
These listings describe availability at the time they were captured and can change. Ask the host to identify the Minecraft version, loader, Cobblemon build, and server-pack revision in writing. A one-click button is useful only if it installs the same release your players have.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Test, secure, and maintain the world
Run a controlled first test
- Join locally first and verify that a starter area loads without missing textures or registry errors.
- Catch and release a few Pokémon, open storage, travel to new chunks, and watch the console for repeated exceptions.
- Invite one remote player before opening the server to the whole group.
- Check the server’s tick behavior while two players explore in different directions.
Protect access
- Enable the whitelist for a private group and add players by their exact Java Edition usernames.
- Give operator privileges only to trusted administrators.
- Keep the server process under a dedicated operating-system account where practical.
- Do not expose administrative panels or remote console ports directly to the public internet.
Back up before every change
Stop the server cleanly before copying the world. Keep at least one local backup and one separate copy, and retain several dated versions so a corrupted save or bad mod update can be rolled back. Back up configuration files and the modpack manifest as well as the world directory; a world may load incorrectly if its configuration or registry data is lost.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Update deliberately
Read the release notes for Cobblemon, Minecraft, the loader, and the pack before updating. Make a copy of the entire server folder, test the update on that copy, and have every player update the client at the same time. Never update only the server and expect an older client profile to remain compatible.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The server crashes immediately
- Run
java -versionand confirm the intended Java release. - Check that Minecraft, the loader, Cobblemon, and every dependency share the same version family.
- Remove recently added mods one at a time and read the first meaningful error in
logs/latest.log. - For NeoForge or Forge, confirm that the required Kotlin component is installed; for Fabric, confirm Fabric API.
Players see a missing-mod or incompatible-version message
Compare the client’s mod list with the server’s list, including loader type and dependency versions. A client running the newest standalone Cobblemon cannot join an older Pixelverse server pack simply because both are named Cobblemon.
Local players can join but remote players cannot
Recheck the host’s local address, the router’s TCP 25565 rule, the operating-system firewall, and whether the internet connection is behind carrier-grade NAT. Test from a genuinely external network, such as a mobile hotspot, rather than from another device on the same LAN.
The world lags when players explore
Exploration generates new chunks and can temporarily saturate CPU, storage, and memory. Reduce view or simulation distance, avoid giving Java more RAM than the machine can spare, pre-generate terrain if your chosen pack supports it, and use an SSD. If the server remains overloaded with a small number of players, investigate CPU performance and mod conflicts instead of assuming that more heap will solve it.
A modpack server starts but behaves unlike the client
Compare the server-pack contents with the client manifest and configuration directory. Missing scripts, data packs, generated configuration files, or world settings can change recipes, Pokémon spawning, and progression even when the server technically starts.

Which hosting method should you choose?
| Choose this | When it fits | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Self-host at home | You control the hardware, can configure port forwarding, and want to avoid a monthly host | You maintain Java, security, backups, uptime, and network access |
| Managed hosting | You want a public address, control panel, one-click pack installation, and support | Recurring cost and possible limits on versions, storage, or custom files |
| Private LAN server | Everyone plays on the same home network | No internet forwarding, but remote friends cannot connect without additional networking |
For a small group, begin with the exact server pack and about 6 GB of memory, then increase resources only after observing real load. The decisive compatibility check is not the host’s product name; it is the Minecraft version, loader, Cobblemon build, and modpack revision installed on both sides.
Public-server availability
A public modded-Minecraft listing captured no active servers for either Beyond the Pixelverse pack. Such directories can be stale, so the absence of a listing does not prove that no community server exists. If you want a public server, publish the pack version, loader, rules, whitelist policy, and connection address clearly, and keep the server updated only after testing a backup copy.
