If OBS is capturing the whole display, its window can appear in your YouTube Live output whenever OBS is visible on that display. The quickest fix is to minimize OBS. Windows also has a capture-exclusion setting, and macOS 13 or later offers one for the macOS Screen Capture source. If your loop comes from a single app, capturing just that app or window can avoid showing the rest of the desktop.
Choose the right fix for your capture source
First check the source in your OBS scene. Display Capture records the selected display, so it can include the OBS interface when that window is visible. If viewers only need to see one application or window, use the narrowest suitable source instead of capturing the entire desktop, where your system and source support it.

Hide OBS from the live capture
Quick fix: minimize OBS
- In OBS, confirm which display the scene captures.
- Minimize the OBS window. On Windows, it can go to the taskbar or tray; on macOS, to the Dock or menu bar.
- Check the captured output. If you bring OBS back onto the captured display, it may appear in the capture again until minimized.
OBS documents minimizing as a way to keep its interface out of a display capture while the window is not visible. Refer to its OBS Studio overview for the documented guidance.

Windows: enable OBS capture exclusion
- Open OBS Studio → Settings → General.
- Enable Hide OBS windows from screen capture.
- Check that the OBS interface no longer appears in the captured output.
OBS notes that while this setting is enabled, screenshots of OBS will not work. Reopen or manage OBS with that limitation in mind.
macOS 13 or later: hide OBS in macOS Screen Capture
- Use a macOS Screen Capture source.
- Set its capture mode to Display Capture.
- Enable Hide OBS from capture.
- Verify the output before leaving the stream running.
This documented option applies to macOS 13 Ventura and later and to the macOS Screen Capture source in Display Capture mode.

Use a second display
If you want OBS controls visible while keeping them off the captured desktop, put OBS on a secondary monitor or television and capture your primary display. This is optional; minimizing OBS or a supported exclusion option may be enough.

What these controls change—and what they do not
- Minimizing OBS or excluding it from capture changes whether its interface appears in the captured image; it does not, by itself, stop the stream.
- The eye icon in OBS Sources hides or shows an individual source in a scene. It does not hide the OBS application window from Display Capture.
- Studio Mode lets you prepare a scene separately from the live Program scene. The Program output remains live until you make a transition; Studio Mode does not itself hide the OBS window from desktop capture. See the OBS Studio Mode guide.
- Display Capture is broader than window or application capture. Choose the narrowest source that includes the intended loop content and verify the result.
Check the live output before leaving a loop unattended
- Confirm the scene and source you intend to send to YouTube.
- Apply the appropriate method above, then inspect the actual output to ensure the desktop or OBS interface is not visible.
- If you use an exclusion option, verify it with the same source and system configuration you plan to leave running.
- After any scene or source change, check the output again before relying on the loop unattended.
Capture behavior can depend on the source configuration, operating-system permissions, and third-party loop setup. The documented options are not a guarantee that every configuration behaves identically.

Troubleshooting
OBS still appears in the stream
- Cause: The scene captures the whole display and OBS is visible on it. Fix: Minimize OBS, use the supported exclusion option for your platform, or move OBS to a second display.
- Cause: The scene uses Display Capture when viewers only need one app. Fix: Switch to a supported Window Capture or application-capture source and confirm it includes the intended content.
The exclusion option is missing
- Cause: The steps may not apply to your operating system, macOS version, or capture source. Fix: The Windows toggle is under Settings → General. The macOS option described here requires macOS 13 or later and the macOS Screen Capture source in Display Capture mode. For other setups, minimize OBS or use a narrower supported source.
Hiding a source did not hide the OBS window
The eye control affects the selected scene source, not the OBS application itself. Minimize OBS or use an applicable capture-exclusion option.
Studio Mode did not remove the desktop
Studio Mode governs how scene edits reach the Program output; it does not exclude the OBS window from a display capture. Use minimizing, capture exclusion where supported, or a narrower source.

You are unsure whether the loop is still running
The documented minimize and capture-exclusion methods address visibility in the captured image, not the running state of your stream. Inspect the actual output after applying a change; behavior may vary with the capture source and system setup.
