To hide a detected cookie banner in a Urlbox screenshot, add hide_cookie_banners=true to the render request. Urlbox describes this as an attempt to hide banners on most websites, not a guarantee. If a particular overlay remains, use a CSS selector with hide_selector or add site-specific CSS or JavaScript.
Hide a banner with Urlbox’s built-in option
Include the target page’s URL and the boolean option in the request. For example, the JSON request parameters are:
{
"url": "https://example.com",
"hide_cookie_banners": true
}
Urlbox’s render-options reference describes the hiding effect as applying display: none !important to detected cookie banners. The option is intended to remove the visual banner from the rendered page; it does not mean the visitor accepted the site’s cookies. See Urlbox’s Render Options and Screenshots documentation for the current request syntax and behavior.
Choose hiding or accepting consent
| Option | What Urlbox attempts | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
hide_cookie_banners=true |
Hides detected cookie banners; the options reference specifies display: none !important. |
You want to suppress the banner visually in the screenshot. |
click_accept=true |
Attempts to click a likely accept button. | You want the page to follow its accept interaction before capture. |
These options are not interchangeable: hiding changes what is visible in the capture, while clicking accept attempts to interact with the page’s consent control. Urlbox documents combining both for some screenshot requests, but whether either works depends on the site. The technical behavior documented by Urlbox does not establish what consent is legally sufficient in a particular situation.

Handle banners that remain visible
If built-in detection does not remove a site’s overlay, Urlbox documents several fallbacks. Start with the narrowest method that fits the page.
Target the banner with a CSS selector
Use hide_selector with a selector matching the banner, after inspecting the page’s markup. The option supports element, class, ID, complex, and comma-separated selectors. Urlbox says matched elements receive visibility: hidden !important and pointer-events: none !important, which preserves their layout rather than removing them from the page flow. That differs from the documented display: none behavior of automatic banner hiding. See the options reference.
Try Escape for a dismissible overlay
Set press_escape=true to send Escape before capture. Urlbox lists it as an attempt to dismiss a modal or popup; it is a general overlay fallback, not a cookie-specific substitute for banner detection.

When detection and a selector are insufficient, Urlbox supports custom CSS and JavaScript. This is useful when the page requires a particular site-specific action or when the overlay is rendered in a way that a simple selector cannot address. Urlbox’s guide outlines these alternatives: Block pop ups and hide cookie banners from screenshots.
Capture a full page
For a full-page screenshot, Urlbox recommends considering both click_accept and hide_cookie_banners. The first attempts to accept; the second attempts to hide a detected banner. The render-options page states that full_page requires Ultra or above, so check Urlbox’s current plan details before relying on full-page capture: Render Options.
Urlbox also shows these banner options alongside block_ads and block_urls in a full-page example. Those are different controls: ad blocking targets ads, and URL blocking targets selected network requests. They are not replacements for cookie-banner handling. See Urlbox’s Screenshots documentation.

If you want a screenshot API that handles cleanup before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie/consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status. It also offers an MCP server for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

Troubleshoot a banner that still appears
- The banner is visible despite
hide_cookie_banners=true: the option is an attempt that works on most websites, not every site. Inspect the page and try a specifichide_selector, or use custom CSS or JavaScript. - The page still shows a consent dialog: hiding and accepting are different actions. If you need the page to respond to its accept control, try
click_accept=true; Urlbox only documents an attempt, so verify the resulting capture. - Escape does nothing:
press_escape=trueis intended for dismissible modals or popups. For a persistent banner, use a selector or site-specific code instead. - The full-page option is unavailable: Urlbox’s options reference lists
full_pageas requiring Ultra or above. Confirm the current plan requirement in the live documentation. - An unrelated resource or ad remains: cookie-banner options do not target every page element. Use
block_adsfor ads orblock_urlsfor selected network requests, where appropriate; neither is a cookie-banner control.
