Hide the banner only in the screenshot
Playwright can apply CSS while it captures the screenshot. This keeps the change focused on the image rather than writing a consent preference to the site:

});The selectors are examples, not built-in conventions. Inspect the rendered page and replace them with a selector that matches the banner you need to hide. Playwright documents screenshot-time styles, including their use to hide dynamic elements, in its Page API.
Inject CSS before capture instead
If your workflow needs the stylesheet in place before other capture steps, use page.addStyleTag():

Playwright documents this CSS injection method alongside its page APIs. Puppeteer offers a similar Page.addStyleTag() method; see its API reference, which identifies version 25.12.0.
Choose hiding, injection, or masking for the job
- Screenshot-time style: best for a one-off capture where the visual change should be limited to the screenshot.
- Injected style: useful when the CSS should be present earlier in the page flow or reused across capture steps.
- Screenshot mask: Playwright can cover a locator with a colored rectangle. A mask does not remove the element’s layout footprint, so it is not equivalent to hiding the banner.
Playwright’s full-page screenshot option captures the full scrollable page; other screenshot controls include output path, image type, caret, and scale. Choose these independently of the CSS selector—the selector determines whether the banner is actually hidden.
What hiding the banner does—and does not do
CSS changes the page’s appearance in the capture. It does not establish that the site recorded consent, accepted cookies, rejected cookies, or met a legal requirement. The cited browser APIs document presentation behavior, not consent semantics.
If a consent interface is inside an iframe or shadow root, whether a selector or style injection reaches it depends on that page’s DOM and the API behavior. These methods do not guarantee coverage of every implementation.

Troubleshoot a banner that remains visible
- The selector matches nothing: inspect the rendered page and update the selector to match the banner’s actual element. Sample selectors such as
.cookie-bannerare not universal. - The wrong element disappears: narrow the selector to the specific banner rather than a broad class or dialog rule, then capture again.
- The banner is covered but still takes up space: check whether you used a mask. A mask paints over an element; use CSS with
display: none !importantwhen the goal is to remove it from the screenshot layout. - The CSS does not affect the consent UI: determine whether the UI is rendered in an iframe or shadow root. The cited APIs do not establish a universal workaround for those cases.
- You expected the site to remember a consent choice: hiding is visual only. Use the site’s actual consent controls when you need a recorded choice.
