A free browser PDF editor can cover common jobs such as adding notes, filling forms, signing, highlighting, and rearranging pages. PDFgear offers those tools online, but it does not directly replace existing PDF text in the browser—so it is a practical fit for everyday markup, not a full substitute for every Acrobat workflow.
What you can do in PDFgear’s browser editor
PDFgear’s online editor lets you add text boxes, images, comments, notes, shapes, stamps, signatures, highlights, and drawings. It also supports page tasks such as reordering, rotating, copying, deleting, inserting blank pages, and importing another PDF. How to edit a PDF in a browser
- Open PDFgear’s online editor and select the PDF you want to work on.
- Choose the tool that matches the task: markup for comments and highlights, a text box for added text, or page controls for rearranging or removing pages.
- Review the edited pages, then download the resulting PDF.
For form fields, use the form filler to enter responses or add form elements, then review and save the completed file.

When a browser editor is not enough
Changing text already in the PDF
Adding a text box over a typo is not the same as changing the PDF’s original text. PDFgear says its online editor cannot directly replace existing text; its separate desktop software supports direct text editing and more advanced functions. PDFgear’s online editor · PDFgear’s Windows editing guide
Other approaches have trade-offs. The guide describes Microsoft Edge as a basic markup tool, and Microsoft Word as an option for some text-based PDFs by converting them. Conversion can affect layout, so check the result carefully if formatting matters. For advanced editing, Acrobat Pro is a paid option, but the available evidence here does not establish its current price or a full feature-by-feature comparison.

Scanned PDFs
A scanned PDF may contain page images rather than selectable text. Editing its words usually requires optical character recognition (OCR) or conversion. Offline work and demanding files
A browser workflow depends on having the editor available online. PDFgear states a 100 MB maximum file size and warns that performance on large or complex files can depend on the device. If you need offline access or regularly handle demanding documents, check whether a desktop workflow better fits your needs. These are vendor-stated terms and may change. PDFgear’s online editor

Cost, limits, and file privacy
PDFgear currently describes its online editor as free, with no sign-up, ads, premium plan, purchase, watermark, usage-count limit, or time limit. Its page also lists the 100 MB file cap. Those are the vendor’s stated terms, not a guarantee that terms will remain unchanged. PDFgear’s online editor
PDFgear says files are processed locally and stay on the user’s device rather than being uploaded to a server. That is the vendor’s privacy claim; it has not been independently verified here. How it compares with Adobe’s free browser editor
Adobe’s product listing says its free online editor supports adding text, comments, and fill-and-sign, and requires a free Adobe account. That limited description is not enough to establish a complete feature comparison or current paid-plan prices. Adobe’s online PDF editor listing
The practical choice is about task fit and workflow, not simply free versus paid. Consider whether you need overlays or direct text replacement, form filling and page organization, OCR for a scan, offline access, or a particular privacy arrangement. For occasional markup and form completion, a browser tool may be enough; if you routinely edit original text or need advanced document handling, check desktop options against those requirements.
