You usually do not pair a Samsung TV remote with a soundbar as a separate Bluetooth accessory. Connect the soundbar to the TV, select it as the TV’s sound output, and use the connection method’s control settings. Samsung says its TV remote can control volume and mute on a soundbar connected by HDMI ARC or optical, though steps and menu names vary by model and region. Samsung support
Choose how to connect the soundbar

These are the setup differences in Samsung’s instructions, not a universal compatibility ranking. Choose a method supported by the ports and features on your specific TV and soundbar.

Set up HDMI ARC or eARC
- Connect the soundbar’s HDMI OUT (ARC) port to the TV’s HDMI (ARC) port with an HDMI cable. Confirm the ports are labelled ARC or eARC; an ordinary HDMI port may not provide the same audio-return function. Samsung US setup
- On the soundbar, select D.IN. Samsung says the source changes to TV ARC after a short delay. Samsung US setup
- On the TV, open Settings > Sound > Sound Output and select the soundbar. The precise menu labels can differ by model. Samsung US setup
- If device control or automatic power synchronization does not work, enable Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) in the TV settings. For eARC, Samsung’s guidance also says to set Settings (All Settings) > Audio/Sound > Expert Settings > HDMI eARC Mode to Auto after enabling Anynet+. Samsung Canada eARC guidance
Set up an optical connection
- Connect the TV’s optical output to the soundbar’s optical input. Remove any protective caps from the cable before connecting it. Samsung US setup
- Set the TV’s sound output to the external or optical audio option, then select D.IN on the soundbar. Samsung US setup
- If you want the TV to turn the soundbar on and off, check Auto Power Link on the soundbar. Samsung’s US guide says this feature works only with optical and is enabled by default for the models covered by that guide. Samsung US setup
Pair the soundbar over Bluetooth
Bluetooth setup adds the soundbar as the TV’s wireless audio device. Samsung India gives this path: put the soundbar in BT pairing mode, then on the TV go to Home > Settings > All Settings > Sound > Sound Output > BT Speaker List > Pair and Connect. If the TV remote still will not control the soundbar
- Check the sound output: make sure the TV is set to the soundbar, rather than the TV speakers or another output. Samsung US setup
- Check the soundbar input: use D.IN for optical, or the TV ARC source for HDMI ARC. Confirm the soundbar is powered on. Samsung soundbar troubleshooting
- Check the ports and cable: verify the cable runs from the TV’s output to the matching soundbar input and is seated firmly at both ends. Remove protective casing or caps where present. Samsung soundbar troubleshooting
- Try Samsung’s supported-soundbar remote setting: with the soundbar powered on, hold WOOFER until ON – TV REMOTE appears; Samsung’s US guide says this takes about five seconds. This is a model-specific fallback, not a universal instruction, so check the soundbar manual if the button or display is different. Samsung US setup
- For eARC problems: confirm that both models support eARC, enable Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC), and set HDMI eARC Mode to Auto as described above. Samsung’s general support guidance does not establish compatibility for every model combination. Samsung Canada eARC guidance
Samsung’s exact menus and supported controls vary across TV and soundbar models and regions. Use the manuals for both devices to confirm model-specific settings when the instructions here do not match what you see. Samsung US support Samsung Canada support
