To get list-style notifications back on your iPhone Lock Screen, open Settings > Notifications, then tap List under the Lock Screen display choices. You can also pinch the notifications on the Lock Screen to switch layouts. Apple says changing notification appearance is supported in iOS 16 or later.
Switch the Lock Screen to List
- Open Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- Under the Lock Screen display choices, tap List.
Your Lock Screen notifications will display in a list rather than as a stack or a count. Apple’s current guides describe the setting in Change notification settings on iPhone.

Change the layout from the Lock Screen
To switch views without navigating through Settings, pinch the notifications on the Lock Screen. Apple documents this gesture in View and respond to notifications on iPhone.

| View | What appears on the Lock Screen |
|---|---|
| List | Notifications displayed in a list. |
| Stack | Notifications grouped into stacks. |
| Count | The number of notifications. |
Apple describes these three choices in its Use notifications on your iPhone or iPad support article. The exact number of alerts visible at once depends on the screen; Apple does not specify a fixed count.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
If you meant older notifications
Changing to List changes how notifications are arranged; it does not retrieve older alerts. To browse notifications beyond those currently visible, open Notification Center:
- From the Lock Screen, swipe up from the middle of the screen.
- From another screen, swipe down from the top center, then scroll to see older notifications.
These gestures are covered in Apple’s iPhone notification guide.
