Then check My Files’ separate Recycle bin and any cloud account or backup that held a copy before the photo was deleted.
Restore a photo from Gallery’s Recycle bin
- Open Gallery.
- Tap Menu (three horizontal lines), then Recycle bin.
- Tap Edit, select the photo, and tap Restore.
Samsung Canada says deleted Gallery items stay in the Recycle bin for 30 days before automatic permanent deletion. Menu names or placement may vary by software version. Samsung’s Gallery and Trash instructions.

Check My Files’ separate Recycle bin
Deleting or moving a file through My Files uses a different recycle-bin interface from Gallery. Open My Files > Recycle bin, select the file, and tap Restore. Samsung also documents recycle-bin management under Settings > Device care > Storage management > Recycle bin. The 30-day period cited above is for Gallery; it should not be assumed to apply to every My Files item. Samsung’s instructions for Gallery and My Files.

This is useful if Gallery sync with OneDrive was enabled before the photo went missing. Samsung US says Gallery Sync with OneDrive ended on September 30, 2026. Media synced before then remains in OneDrive, but new Gallery items no longer sync through that feature. In OneDrive, check the Gallery folder or the location where you previously stored the photos, then download any recovered images to your phone. Samsung’s OneDrive photo download guidance.

If the OneDrive copy was deleted
Check OneDrive’s Recycle bin as well. Samsung’s US guidance says deleted photos and videos remain there for 93 days. Restore the item from the bin; if it is not already on the phone, download it afterward. This is a separate cloud retention period, not an extension of Gallery’s on-device Recycle bin. Check whether a backup contains the photo
A backup can help only if it existed before deletion and included the media you need. Sign in to the Google account you used and verify that the photo is actually present. Samsung documents Google Drive or Google One backup settings at Settings > Accounts and backup > Back up data; the presence of this setting does not mean a backup was automatically enabled or that a particular photo was saved. Know which recovery location to check

Account for changes to Samsung Gallery cloud sync
Google-linked Gallery sync is not a universal option. Samsung Japan’s page, updated October 5, 2026, describes availability on One UI 9.0 at that date, with lower software versions to follow, and says availability varies by device, region, carrier, and software. If you do not see the option, do not assume your phone supports it; check Samsung’s current information for your device and region. Samsung Japan’s Gallery cloud sync availability information.
If the photo is missing from every bin and backup
The cited Samsung guidance does not establish a guaranteed way to recover a photo permanently removed from all available copies. Avoid treating recovery software as a sure fix. If you do retrieve the image, save a separate copy somewhere you control so one future deletion does not remove every copy.
