Street Football, Kickabouts and other Grounds activities award Grounds Coins and Archetype XP, while complementary Archetypes unlock Masteries that may require development outside your usual position.
This guide explains the first-session route, what each area does, how to find games and friends, how to plan Archetypes and Amps, where Club competitions and vanity stores are located, and which platform and event details you should verify because they can change.

What The Grounds is in FC 27
EA describes The Grounds as the open-world football playground and the new home of Clubs in EA SPORTS FC 27. It connects social exploration with Street Football, Kickabouts, Rush, 11v11 activities, Club progression and rotating seasonal content. You can explore from the moment you enter the mode; there is no introductory unlock sequence that blocks the map.

The design goal is to keep the space social even when your own Club is offline: you can watch a live match, join a Rush squad, find a 2v2 partner, meet possible Clubmates or move to a competitive access point without leaving the world.

The Grounds is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. EA Help describes cross-play between PC and the generation-five console platforms, with Nintendo Switch 2 excluded from that cross-play group. Check the current in-game notices and EA Help before arranging a cross-platform session, because platform support, event eligibility and reward rules can change.
Your best first session
Use this route to learn the layout while earning progression instead of spending your first visit wandering between stores.
- Open the map. Identify a Street Football or Kickabout location first. The map can also waypoint the Clubhouse, stores, Rush Drop-In, 11v11 Drop-In and other gameplay locations.
- Read the pitch board. At a pitch, approach the information board to see what is being offered, then enter the marked queue zone and select Play.
- Watch while you wait. Matches remain visible from the sidelines, so you can learn the rules and spacing without leaving the queue.
- Start with a small side. Try 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 Street Football before moving to larger or more structured activities. These formats make the boundaries, passing lanes and defensive pressure easy to read.
- Rotate into a Kickabout. Bocce Ball, Balloon Ball and Bucketball use shorter, objective-based sessions that teach you how The Grounds handles non-traditional football goals.
- Use Travel where it is offered. Eligible Street Football and Kickabout locations show a Travel option on the map. Selecting it is quicker than crossing the district on foot.
- Check timers before committing. Timer icons identify Live Events. Open one when its rules or rewards suit your session; a temporary event can be more useful than a standard queue if you are collecting a particular reward.
Do not judge the mode from one match. The Grounds is deliberately a hub, so your first visit should sample one pitch activity, one objective game and one social or Clubhouse location.

Choosing activities without wasting a session
No official source publishes a measured “fastest” activity for leveling. The useful distinction is what each activity asks you to do and which kind of social commitment it needs.

The table shows why rotating is sensible: each format exercises a different part of the mode. A player who repeats only one queue may still earn progress, but will miss objective types, social access points and event-specific rewards.
How Grounds progression works
Street Football, Kickabouts and other listed Grounds activities award Grounds Coins and Archetype XP. Grounds Coins are the mode’s spendable progression currency; Archetype XP advances the player-build system. EA’s launch notes also introduce Amps and Masteries, which expand how an Archetype can be developed.

Plan Archetypes around a build, not only a position
An Archetype represents a style of player development. If your end goal is a striker who can pass like a midfielder, do not assume every requirement sits on the striker path. Masteries can require leveling complementary Archetypes, so the intended route may include a midfield Archetype before the striker build is complete.
Use Amps to add a signature strength
An Amp adds a signature ability to an Archetype. EA says an Amp can provide an ability outside the position’s usual profile, which is why the item can change how a build feels rather than simply increasing a familiar statistic. Read the Amp description and its requirement before spending progression resources; an attractive effect is less useful if it conflicts with the way you actually play.
A practical rotation
- Play one Street Football format to advance your primary Archetype.
- Switch to a Kickabout so you learn an objective game and continue earning Grounds progression.
- Enter Rush or a Drop-In access point when you want squad-based play.
- Check a Live Event and complete it when its rules match your build or reward target.
- Review Archetype requirements after the session and invest in a complementary path if a Mastery calls for it.
This rotation is editorial guidance based on EA’s stated progression systems, not a measured fastest-leveling claim. It reduces the chance that you discover a complementary-Archetype requirement only after ignoring the needed path for many sessions.
Finding people, parties and matches
The map is also a social browser. White dots represent other players, blue dots represent Club members and pink dots represent party members. Clusters of dots show where activity is concentrated, so a busy area is usually a better place to find a partner than an empty corner of a district.
Joining a group
Use Rush Drop-In or a pitch queue when you need a match immediately. For a specific friend, form the party through EA Connect, then use the map to travel to the chosen activity. The Grounds can also be used to scout potential Clubmates: watch how someone plays, then communicate through EA Connect before inviting them.

When a queue is active, stay near the pitch sidelines to spectate the visible match. This is useful for learning a Kickabout objective or seeing how players use the boundaries before your own turn.

Communication limits
The Grounds has no proximity chat and no open microphone. Voice or text communication with friends is handled through EA Connect, so set up that channel before entering a coordinated session. Players you meet in the open world will not automatically hear you because they are nearby.
Understanding the three districts
The Grounds is divided into three districts with distinct football-cultural identities. EA Help identifies Zeiza as Argentina-inspired and Parkside as UK-inspired. EA’s announcement names Paulo Dybala, Chloe Kelly and Kylian Mbappé as mentors, with one mentor associated with each district.
District identity is more than a visual choice: EA says store drops can draw on football, seasonal themes, collaborations, district identity, music and local culture. If you care about a particular look, check each district’s World Store rather than assuming every shop carries the same items.

Waypoints are available for the Clubhouse, stores, Drop-In points and eligible pitches. Set a waypoint before leaving a match, and use Travel when the destination supports it. This keeps the open-world movement useful without turning every store visit into a long traversal.
Clubhouse versus World Stores
The two store areas serve different purposes, and confusing them is one of the easiest ways to search in the wrong place.

Vanity items are obtained from World Stores in The Grounds, not from the Clubhouse Store. The launch notes say store drops rotate frequently, so an item that is absent today may appear in a later rotation; inventory is not a permanent catalog.

Seasonal Live Events and limited-time rewards
Timer icons on the map identify Live Events and show that their rules or availability are temporary. Open the event details before queueing: a Live Event can change the objective, add special rules and attach rewards that do not exist in the standard activity.
Season 1: European Nights
EA’s launch notes describe European Nights with UEFA Champions League-inspired atmosphere, small-sided Live Events, an 11v11 Stadium Club Tournament and player-themed Amps inspired by Zinedine Zidane, Paolo Maldini and Gareth Bale. Treat these as a period-specific Season 1 example rather than a permanent Grounds feature.
Screaming Grounds
The same notes describe Screaming Grounds as a Halloween event with pumpkin targets, themed Live Events and cosmetic rewards. The objective design illustrates why Kickabouts and Live Events deserve regular checks: seasonal activities can ask for something other than winning a conventional football match.
A reliable event routine
- Look for timer icons when you first open the map.
- Read the event’s objective and entry requirements.
- Decide whether the reward supports your Archetype, Amp collection or cosmetic goal.
- Queue before the timer expires, allowing for matchmaking time.
- Return to the World Store after the event if you are collecting its associated cosmetic theme.
Event names, rules, rewards and store inventory are volatile. Use the current in-game event panel as the authority for what is active on your platform.

EA lists PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 for The Grounds. EA Help states that cross-play covers PC and the generation-five platforms except Nintendo Switch 2. A player on Switch 2 should therefore confirm the current matchmaking pool before planning a mixed-platform party.
- Before buying or installing: verify that your edition of FC 27 includes access to The Grounds and that your platform is listed in the current support information.
- Before inviting friends: check whether every player is in an eligible cross-play group.
- Before chasing an event reward: read the event’s platform, Club or mode requirements; they can differ from the general Grounds access rules.
- Before spending currency: inspect the current World Store and Clubhouse Store inventories, since drops rotate.
Troubleshooting common first-session problems
You cannot find a match
Move toward a cluster of white, blue or pink map dots, then try a nearby pitch or Rush Drop-In point. A sparse district may simply have fewer players in that instance. If the issue persists, use EA Connect to invite a friend rather than waiting alone in an empty queue.

You are waiting but do not know what to do
Stand near the pitch sidelines and watch the visible match, or open the map for a different activity. The information board and queue zone are the intended entry points; standing elsewhere on the pitch does not automatically place you in the queue.
You expected local voice chat
There is no proximity chat or open mic in The Grounds. Use EA Connect for voice or text with friends and confirm that everyone has joined the same party.
You cannot find a cosmetic in the Clubhouse
Check a World Store in The Grounds. The Clubhouse Store is for Consumables and Amps, while vanity items come from the World Stores.

A Mastery requirement seems unrelated to your position
Review the complementary-Archetype requirement. Masteries can require development in another role, so level the named supporting Archetype through Street Football, Kickabouts or another eligible Grounds activity instead of assuming the requirement is an error.
A repeatable weekly routine
Once you know the layout, use a simple loop to keep the mode varied:
- Open the map and note active timer icons.
- Complete one small-sided Street Football queue.
- Play one Kickabout, choosing an objective you have not tried recently.
- Use Rush, Stadium Rush or 11v11 Drop-In for a different team context.
- Visit the Clubhouse if your Club has League, Playoff or tournament activity.
- Check World Stores for the current vanity rotation.
- Spend the session’s Grounds Coins and Archetype XP only after reviewing your next Mastery or Amp goal.
This routine keeps progression, social play, Club competition and seasonal content in the same loop without claiming that any one activity levels faster than the others.
