On a supported LG Smart TV, open Apps from the Home Screen, search for DIRECTV, select the app, and choose Install. Then open it and sign in with your DIRECTV user ID and password. DIRECTV says the native app supports LG Smart TVs from 2021 onward running webOS 6.0 or higher.
Check that your LG TV is compatible
DIRECTV lists support for LG Smart TVs made in 2021 or later with webOS 6.0 or higher. The year of the TV alone is not enough to confirm compatibility: check the model and its webOS version if DIRECTV does not appear in the app search. - From the LG TV Home Screen, open Apps.
- Select the magnifying-glass icon and search for DIRECTV.
- Choose the DIRECTV app in the results, then select Install.
- When installation finishes, open the app from the Home Screen.
- Sign in with your DIRECTV user ID and password.
These are the steps in DIRECTV’s LG-specific instructions. If the app is absent from search, check compatibility before assuming the installation process is the problem.

Why can’t you find or use the app?
DIRECTV does not appear in Apps search
- Confirm the exact TV model and that it runs webOS 6.0 or higher; the stated support threshold is an LG Smart TV from 2021 onward.
- Check whether the TV is connected to your home network. DIRECTV’s LG guidance points to Settings > General > Network.
- Check for the latest TV operating system and app updates.
- If it is still missing, contact LG Support with your TV model number. DIRECTV points viewers to LG for TV-specific help.
The app opens but streams poorly
DIRECTV suggests a download speed of 8 Mbps per stream in-home. This is the company’s recommendation, not a guarantee of smooth viewing; actual performance can depend on the connection and network conditions. Check that the TV is online and that its software and app are up to date.
The app itself seems to be malfunctioning
If the problem is limited to DIRECTV, DIRECTV says uninstalling and reinstalling the app may help. After reinstalling, open it again and sign in.

What if your LG TV is unsupported?
If your TV does not meet the native-app requirements, a compatible external streaming device may let you watch DIRECTV without replacing the television. DIRECTV’s compatibility list includes several device families, including Fire TV, Google/Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV. Check the current compatibility list for the exact device model, operating-system requirement, and regional availability before choosing one.

A streaming stick is only a fallback for an unsupported TV; it is not required when the LG TV can run the native app.
