A wheel is optional, and there is no single beginner assist setup that suits everyone.
1. Confirm you have the PS5 version
F1 25 is the official game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship, and a PS5 version is listed on PlayStation Store. Check your local PlayStation Store for the current edition and offer details; availability and season content can change by region and over time.

2. Start with the DualSense controller
You do not need to buy a racing wheel to begin. The PS5 version supports DualSense, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. EA also lists compatible PS5 wheels, such as Logitech G29 and G923, the HORI Racing Wheel Apex, and supported Fanatec devices. Compatibility does not guarantee better results; consider a wheel only if you decide you want one.

3. Check controls and settings before driving
Use the game’s control reminders to see what each input does, and adjust settings or remapping if the default controls do not feel comfortable. For reference outside the game, consult EA’s F1 25 PlayStation controls hub. Checking the in-game prompts is especially useful because you can confirm the mapping for your own setup instead of relying on a generic button list.
EA’s accessibility resource says Steering Assist is available and turns on Braking Assist, Anti-Lock Brakes, and Traction Control. Try the options that make driving manageable, then reduce assistance gradually if you want more direct control. That is a practical way to approach the settings, not an official prescribed beginner setup; the right combination depends on your comfort and experience.

4. Learn a circuit in Practice Mode
Before committing to a full race, choose Practice Mode and make a few short, repeatable runs on one circuit. Focus on staying on track and learning where corners begin and end rather than trying to set a fast lap immediately. Once the layout feels familiar, repeat the session and work on smoother braking and steering.

Practice Mode is a useful place to learn, not a required progression gate. The goal is to get comfortable with the car and circuit before adding the extra demands of a race weekend, career decisions, or online competition.

5. Pick a mode for the kind of play you want

There is no universally best first mode. Choose Braking Point if you want a story, Driver Career for driver-focused progression, or My Team if managing a team is part of the appeal. You can also explore F1 World without treating it as a prerequisite for the other modes.

Online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus. PlayStation’s listing specifies 1–2 players and up to 22 online players with PS Plus. That requirement applies to online play; it does not mean you need a subscription to start with the game’s single-player modes.
