Yes. You can move a Dragon Quest XI S save from a Nintendo Switch to a Switch 2 with Nintendo’s nearby-console save transfer, or restore an existing Nintendo Switch Online cloud backup. To continue that save, launch the Nintendo Switch version of the game on Switch 2. The separate Switch 2 edition cannot use the Switch version’s save data.
Transfer one save with both consoles available
Nintendo’s nearby save-transfer process works without a Nintendo Switch Online membership. You do need both consoles, an internet connection, and the same Nintendo Account linked to the user on each console.

- Connect both consoles to the internet, keep them close to each other, and install available system updates. Confirm that the same Nintendo Account is linked to the relevant user on both consoles.
- On the original Switch, open System Settings → Data Management → Transfer Your Save Data → Send Save Data to Another Console. Choose the user and the Dragon Quest XI S save, then continue. See Nintendo’s nearby-console transfer instructions.
- On Switch 2, open System Settings → Data Management → Transfer Your Save Data → Receive Save Data and follow the on-screen prompts.
- On Switch 2, start the Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Quest XI S to continue the transferred progress.
This is a move, not a copy: sending the save deletes it from the original console. If the target console already has a save for the game, receiving may require you to overwrite it; Nintendo warns that overwritten save data cannot be recovered. Check which save you want to keep before confirming.
Restore a cloud backup if you do not have the original console
This route works only if the save was previously backed up using Save Data Cloud. Use the same Nintendo Account on Switch 2, then download the backup from the game’s Save Data Cloud menu or from System Settings → Data Management → Save Data Cloud. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for cloud backups. Nintendo’s instructions are at How to Download Save Data Cloud Backups on Nintendo Switch 2.

Downloading a backup replaces the existing save for that game on the console, and Nintendo says the overwritten save cannot be recovered. Nintendo supports sharing Nintendo Switch software cloud backups between Switch and Switch 2 when you use the same Nintendo Account; that does not make the Switch save compatible with the separate Switch 2 edition.
Choose the right Dragon Quest XI edition
Console transfer and game-edition compatibility are different questions. Nintendo says the original Nintendo Switch version is supported on Switch 2 with behavior consistent with Nintendo Switch, so it is the version to launch for a transferred Switch save. Nintendo’s US product listing states: “Save data is incompatible between the Nintendo Switch™ and Nintendo Switch™ 2 versions.” See the Nintendo Switch version listing and the Nintendo Switch 2 edition listing.

The Switch 2 edition is a separate version with separate, incompatible save data. Nintendo’s original-edition US listing says there are no plans to sell an upgrade pack that turns the Switch version into the Switch 2 version. The Nintendo Canada listing gives September 24, 2026, as the Switch 2 edition’s release date; availability and details may vary by region.

Nintendo also offers a full system transfer, which covers more than one game save. Its server-transfer process initializes the original Switch after upload, while local system transfer can delete source data for some users and games. For moving just this game’s save, the individual nearby transfer is the more targeted documented method. If you choose a full transfer, review Nintendo’s current on-console prompts and system-transfer instructions before starting.
