To use a Procreate brush, first download or transfer its brush file to your iPad, then import it in Procreate. Open a canvas, tap Paint, Smudge, or Erase to open Brushes, tap the add button, choose Import from Files, and select the file. Procreate’s official Help Center lists .brush, .brushset, and .brushlibrary files, and says Photoshop .abr brushes can also be imported.
Download or transfer a brush file to your iPad
Procreate’s documented workflow is to import a brush file you already have; the official pages do not describe a single official brush-download store. Find a brush file from a source you trust and save it on the iPad, or transfer it from a Mac or PC. Procreate’s Help Center mentions AirDrop as one transfer option.

Before importing, check that the downloaded item is a brush file with a supported extension. A file advertised as a Procreate brush is not necessarily valid or correctly packaged, and Procreate’s documentation does not guarantee the safety or compatibility of every online download.

Import the brush in Procreate
- Open a canvas in Procreate.
- Tap Paint, Smudge, or Erase to open the Brushes panel.
- Tap the add button at the top right of the Brushes panel.
- Choose Import from Files.
- Find the downloaded brush file and tap it.

Import from Files or another app
If the compatible file is already visible in Files or another compatible app, you can tap it and use the file association prompt to open it in Procreate. Procreate also documents dragging and dropping brush files into the app. For a file you know is saved on the iPad, Import from Files is the straightforward route; tapping or dragging is convenient when you already have the file open or accessible elsewhere.
The Procreate 5.4 Handbook’s Brush Libraries section describes these alternative import routes. Interface labels may differ between app versions.

Supported brush file types
.brush— a single brush..brushset— a set of brushes..brushlibrary— a brush library..abr— Photoshop brush files, which Procreate’s Help Center says can also be imported.
The Help Center lists all four formats; the Procreate 5.4 Handbook’s import section describes .brush, .brushset, and .brushlibrary.

Find the imported brush afterward
- Single brush: Procreate places it in a set called Imported.
- Brush set: It appears near the top of the Brush Library.
- Brush library: It appears alongside the other libraries in the Libraries view.
If the import does not work
Start with two basic checks: confirm the download is complete and check that the file has a supported extension. Then try the documented Import from Files route and select the file from its saved location. These checks follow the documented workflow; Procreate’s cited pages do not provide a complete troubleshooting procedure or promise that every brush file will import successfully.
