The reliable Nintendo-supported setup is the Nintendo Store mobile app: add the game to your Wish List, then open User Page → Settings (gear) → Notification Settings and enable Release notifications. Keep the app’s notifications allowed in iOS or Android as well.
There is an important limitation for postponed games. Nintendo documents notifications for releases and Wish List items, but does not promise a separate push alert every time a publisher changes a release date. If you preordered the game, verify the current date in Nintendo eShop or on the game’s official website and check your reservation information when the date moves.

What Nintendo’s notification system can—and cannot—tell you
Nintendo’s official mechanism for release alerts is the Nintendo Store app’s Wish List notification feature. Nintendo describes the app as a place to receive notifications about game releases, sales, upcoming events and Wish List items. A game does not have to be preordered to use this method; the key requirement is adding its listing to your Wish List.

A publisher may replace an announced date with a new date, leave the date as “coming soon,” or change other listing details. Nintendo’s support guidance does not state that every such edit generates a dedicated push notification. Therefore, treat the app as your best official alert channel for a game becoming available, while treating the eShop listing and the publisher’s own site as the authority for confirming a revised date.

- What is documented: release notifications for items saved to a Wish List in the Nintendo Store app.
- What is not guaranteed: a distinct alert for every postponement or date-change edit.
- What preorder owners should do: check the latest date in Nintendo eShop or the game’s official website, then review the reservation information on the console if needed.
This distinction prevents a common mistake: assuming that silence from the app means a delayed game has not been rescheduled. An alert can be missed, disabled at the operating-system level, or simply not be issued for a date edit that Nintendo does not classify as a release notification.
Before you start: requirements and availability
Use the official mobile app
Install or open the Nintendo Store app on an iPhone, iPad or Android device. The app is available in regions where Nintendo eShop is available. If it is not offered in your region’s app store, the Wish List notification method may not be available there.
Sign in for account-linked features
Sign in when the app asks for your Nintendo Account. Account access is useful for features tied to your account, including maintaining a Wish List. If you browse without signing in, the game page may still be visible, but account-linked saving and notifications can require authentication.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsKnow that a preorder is optional
You do not need to place a preorder to receive the documented Wish List release notification. Add the game to the Wish List even if you are waiting for reviews, a firm date or a physical edition. If you do preorder, use the additional verification workflow described below because Nintendo does not promise that a date change will produce its own alert.
Turn on release notifications step by step
- Open the Nintendo Store app. Install it from the iOS or Android app store if necessary, then launch it.
- Sign in to your Nintendo Account. This connects the Wish List and its notification settings to your account where account-linked features are required.
- Find the delayed game. Search for the exact title and open its Nintendo Store listing. Check the platform and edition so you do not save a similarly named game.
- Add the game to your Wish List. Use the listing’s Wish List control. Confirm that the title appears in your saved items before leaving the page.
- Open your account controls. Go to User Page, then tap the Settings gear.
- Open Notification Settings. Look for the notification category that controls store alerts.
- Enable Release notifications. Turn on the option for release notifications. Nintendo’s documented feature covers release notices for items on your Wish List.
- Allow notifications at the device level. If iOS or Android asks whether the Nintendo Store app may send notifications, choose Allow. If you previously denied it, open the phone’s system Settings, find the Nintendo Store app under notification permissions and enable alerts there. The exact menu wording can vary by operating-system version.
- Leave the title on your Wish List. Removing the game can remove it from the set of Wish List items covered by the release-notification setting.
After this setup, the app is configured to notify you about qualifying releases. It is still sensible to open the game listing after a publisher announces a delay or a new date, because the app setting is not a documented guarantee of an alert for every date change.

How to monitor a postponed game after the date changes
1. Keep the Wish List alert active
Do not remove the title simply because its original date passed. Keeping it saved preserves the official release-notification path if the listing later reaches a release event covered by Nintendo’s system.
2. Check Nintendo eShop when a new date is rumored
Open Nintendo eShop on the Switch console or through Nintendo’s current store interface and search for the title. Compare the date shown there with the date in the announcement you saw. The eShop listing is the practical place to verify what Nintendo currently displays for the product.

3. Check the publisher’s official website
Publishers sometimes announce a delay, a revised launch date or a regional change before every storefront reflects it. Use the game’s official website as a second confirmation source. Pay attention to region and edition: a date for one market, platform or physical edition may not apply to the digital Nintendo Switch release you intend to buy.
4. Recheck your preorder reservation
If you reserved the game, Nintendo’s support guidance says to check the latest release date in Nintendo eShop or on the game’s official website and update reservation information on the console if necessary. A changed calendar date should therefore trigger a manual review rather than an assumption that every preorder record has already changed.
5. Keep the phone able to deliver the alert
Notification permission is only one part of delivery. Review whether the phone is suppressing the app through a system-wide notification mode, a focus or do-not-disturb schedule, battery restrictions, or an inactive account session. These settings differ between iOS and Android, so use the labels shown on your device. The goal is simple: the Nintendo Store app must be permitted to post notifications and must be able to refresh its account-linked data.

What a release date means on Nintendo eShop
A calendar date does not always identify the exact moment a digital game becomes downloadable. Nintendo says the precise release time is decided by the publisher and can vary by title. Its general guidance gives these patterns:
| Software situation | General Nintendo guidance | How to use the figure |
|---|---|---|
| Digital-only software | 9:00 a.m. Pacific on the release day | Use as a general expectation, not a guaranteed launch time for every title. |
| Software also sold physically | 9:00 p.m. Pacific the night before release day | The earlier time applies to Nintendo’s general guidance for software with a physical edition; the publisher and title can still differ. |
| Some third-party titles | 12:00 p.m. Pacific on release day | This is a category in Nintendo’s guidance, not a promise that every third-party game uses noon. |
These are Pacific Time reference points from Nintendo’s general support guidance. They are not guarantees, do not establish a universal countdown for every region, and do not replace the time shown by the publisher or the eShop listing for a particular game. A title can have a confirmed date while its exact unlock time remains subject to the publisher’s decision.
Official app alerts versus manual checking
For a delayed game, the strongest approach is to combine the app with periodic checks. Each method covers a different part of the problem.
| Method | Date-change coverage | Immediacy | Platform and region availability | Preorder required? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Store app Wish List with Release notifications | Documented for release notifications on Wish List items; a separate alert for every postponement is not promised. | Push delivery can be convenient when the app issues a qualifying notification, but delivery depends on account and device permissions. | Available on iOS and Android in regions where Nintendo eShop is available. | No. Saving the game to the Wish List is the relevant action. |
| Manual Nintendo eShop checks | Shows the current storefront information when you look; it does not depend on a push alert. | As immediate as your check, but you must remember to perform it. | Use the eShop applicable to your Nintendo Account and console region. | No. |
| Manual checks of the publisher’s official website | Useful for announcements that may precede or explain a storefront update; regional and edition differences still need verification. | Depends on when the publisher posts and when you check. | Website availability is broad, but the announced date may be region- or platform-specific. | No. |
| Preorder record on the console | Relevant to your reservation, but Nintendo does not document it as a guaranteed date-change alert. | Requires you to review the reservation after a delay or announcement. | Applies to the account and console used for the reservation. | Yes. |
The app is the low-effort layer: save once, enable the setting and let the phone handle qualifying alerts. Manual checks are the verification layer: they are the right response when a date has moved, an announcement is circulating, or the exact launch time matters.

Release notifications are switched off
In the Nintendo Store app, go to User Page → Settings (gear) → Notification Settings and turn on Release notifications. Recheck this page after signing out, changing accounts or reinstalling the app because those events can alter which account or preferences you are viewing.
The phone blocked the app
Open the device’s notification settings and locate the Nintendo Store app. Enable permission to display notifications, then review any focus, do-not-disturb, quiet-hours or battery-saving rule that could suppress delivery. Send yourself a test by observing whether other permitted app notifications appear; a silent phone can make a correctly configured store alert look broken.
You expected a date-change alert
Nintendo does not promise a distinct push alert for each postponed release being rescheduled. Check Nintendo eShop and the game’s official website instead. The absence of an alert is not evidence that the date is unchanged.
The eShop and publisher show different dates
First compare region, platform and edition. A physical release, a digital-only release and a third-party publishing schedule can use different timing. If the difference remains, treat the listing tied to your Nintendo Account and the publisher’s announcement for your specific version as the two items to reconcile, and check again before the expected launch.
The title is not available in your region
The Nintendo Store app’s availability follows regions where Nintendo eShop is available. If you cannot install or use the app in your region, rely on the Nintendo eShop interface available to your account and the publisher’s official communications. Do not assume that a notification workflow from another country will apply to your storefront.

Preorder-specific decisions after a postponement
Do not infer automatic changes from the original date
A preorder is a reservation, not proof that every date field has been refreshed everywhere. When the publisher announces a delay, open the latest Nintendo eShop listing and review the reservation information on the console, following Nintendo’s support guidance.
Record the new date and edition
Write down the revised date as displayed for your region and the exact edition you reserved. This avoids confusing a standard edition with a deluxe edition, or a digital date with a physical launch date, when multiple listings are present.
Check again near launch
Even after a new date is announced, the exact release time can vary by publisher and title. Revisit the eShop listing near launch rather than relying on the original preorder email, calendar reminder or a general time estimate.

A practical monitoring routine
Use this routine when a game has already been postponed:
- Add the game to the Nintendo Store app Wish List.
- Enable Release notifications under User Page, Settings and Notification Settings.
- Allow Nintendo Store notifications in the phone’s operating-system settings.
- Bookmark or otherwise retain the game publisher’s official page for announcements.
- Check Nintendo eShop when the publisher announces a new date or when the old date passes without a release.
- If you preordered, inspect the reservation information on the Switch console and update it if necessary.
- On release day, use the eShop listing for the title-specific timing instead of assuming the general Pacific Time guidance applies exactly.
This routine separates three questions that are often confused: whether the game is saved for a possible app alert, whether Nintendo currently lists a date, and whether your preorder record reflects that date.
Quick Recap
Key takeaways for delayed Switch releases
- The official notification path is the Nintendo Store mobile app, a Wish List entry and the Release notifications setting.
- The app supports iOS and Android in regions where Nintendo eShop is available.
- Nintendo documents release notifications, not a guaranteed push message for every date-change edit.
- Preorder owners should verify the current date in Nintendo eShop or on the publisher’s official website and review reservation information on the console when a delay occurs.
- Nintendo’s general release-time guidance is 9:00 a.m. Pacific for digital-only software, 9:00 p.m. Pacific the night before for software also sold physically, and 12:00 p.m. Pacific for some third-party titles; the publisher and title can vary.
