You can still get Mewtwo in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet without a distribution code, but not by catching it in Paldea right now: the limited-time 2023 Mewtwo Tera Raid has ended. Your practical options are to transfer an eligible Mewtwo through Pokémon HOME or trade with another player. Check HOME’s compatibility details for the specific Mewtwo before attempting a transfer.
Can you catch Mewtwo in Scarlet and Violet now?
No. The Pokémon Company says, “Mewtwo cannot normally be encountered in Paldea.” The special 7-star black-crystal Tera Raid ran from September 1, 2023, at 00:00 UTC through September 17, 2023, at 23:59 UTC. That event is over.

The event Mewtwo had a Psychic Tera Type and the Mightiest Mark, and players could catch it only once per save data. Those details describe the expired event, not a raid you can join today. The Pokémon Company’s “Face a Mighty Mewtwo!” announcement says it may appear in future events or become obtainable through other methods, but gives no return date or guarantee.

Get an eligible Mewtwo through Pokémon HOME
If you already have Mewtwo in another compatible game or Pokémon GO, Pokémon HOME may let you move it into Scarlet or Violet. Compatibility is not universal: HOME only lets Pokémon move into games in which they appear, and eligibility can depend on the specific Pokémon. Before transferring, check HOME’s Connected Games information for Mewtwo and the destination game.
#1 Best Overall
The Pokémon HOME guide explains that Pokémon can be moved among compatible games and directs players to the app’s Help and Connected Games details for species-specific information. Do not assume that every Mewtwo, whatever its origin, can be deposited into Scarlet or Violet.
If your Mewtwo is in Pokémon GO
Eligible Pokémon can be sent from Pokémon GO to HOME. For that GO-to-HOME transfer step, neither a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership nor a paid HOME Premium Plan is required. However, some Pokémon sent from GO have extra withdrawal conditions: Mewtwo may need to be registered in the destination game’s Pokédex or obtained there already. Check HOME’s compatibility and withdrawal information for your Mewtwo before moving it.

If you do not own an eligible Mewtwo to transfer, you can trade for one. Scarlet and Violet support Link Trade and Surprise Trade. Surprise Trade is random, so it is not a dependable way to get a particular Pokémon; a direct Link Trade with someone who has Mewtwo is the more practical option.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the GETY0URMEW code give you Mewtwo?
No. GETY0URMEW was a 2023 Mystery Gift password for Mew, not Mewtwo. Its redemption period ended on September 18, 2023, so it is not a current way to obtain either Pokémon. Mewtwo was caught through the separate, now-expired Tera Raid event. Nintendo’s 2023 promotion announcement lists the historical password and event dates.
Could the Mewtwo raid return?
A future event or another official way to obtain Mewtwo is possible, but no return date is established. For current announcements, check Poké Portal News in the game: open Poké Portal > Mystery Gift > Check Poké Portal News. The September 25–October 1, 2026 official comeback notice announced Dragonite, not Mewtwo, so it does not indicate that the Mewtwo raid is active.
