Xbox Series X is the best Xbox for Halo if you want the strongest supported performance in Halo Infinite, especially on a 4K display. Xbox Series S is a good digital-only alternative for a 1440p setup or a lower-cost console. Check the exact Series X configuration if you own game discs: some current Series X models have a disc drive, while others are all-digital.

| What matters to you | Best fit | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Halo Infinite’s highest supported resolution and frame rate | Xbox Series X | Microsoft lists 4K and up to 120 FPS for supported maps and modes on Series X; a compatible display is required. These are not promises that every mode runs at both figures. |
| Digital games and a 1440p display | Xbox Series S | Microsoft describes Series S as designed for 1440p gaming, with the ability to upscale to 4K. It does not play physical discs. |
| Physical Xbox game discs | Disc-drive Xbox Series X | Series X is sold in disc-drive and all-digital configurations. Confirm the specific model before buying. |
| Older Halo games | Check the individual game | Backward compatibility applies to select Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox games. Compatibility and features vary by title. |
Microsoft’s Series X page describes the console as capable of native 4K, while its Series S page describes a 1440p target with 4K upscaling. These specifications explain the main trade-off: Series X is the better fit for maximum supported Halo Infinite visuals; Series S is suited to digital play at a lower target resolution.

Choose Series X if you want the strongest Halo setup
Series X is the straightforward pick if you have a 4K TV or monitor and want access to Halo Infinite’s advertised 4K and up-to-120-FPS options in supported maps and modes. Those capabilities require a compatible display, and the game’s own listing limits them to supported content; neither figure should be treated as a guarantee for every Halo title or mode.

If you buy games on disc or already own a physical Xbox library, select a Series X model with a disc drive. The Series X name also covers an all-digital configuration, so the model name alone does not establish that it accepts discs.
Choose Series S if you play digitally
Series S is the better match if your games are digital, you do not need a disc drive, and a 1440p target suits your display. Microsoft says it can upscale to 4K, which is not the same as native 4K output. For its disc limitation, Microsoft’s backward compatibility FAQ says Series S is for digital games only and does not play physical discs.

Check compatibility before buying for older Halo games
Do not assume every older Halo release works on a Series console just because Xbox supports backward compatibility. Microsoft says compatibility covers select Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox games, and that features vary by game; downloads may also be needed. Check the specific title in Microsoft’s backward compatibility information before making it the reason for your purchase.

Account for online multiplayer access
Halo Infinite multiplayer is listed as free-to-play, but Microsoft also says online console multiplayer requires an Xbox Game Pass subscription, sold separately. In other words, the game’s free-to-play status does not mean console multiplayer has no subscription requirement. Check Microsoft’s current listing for the applicable subscription details before purchasing or subscribing.
