Pakistan Railways publishes different refund procedures for online e-tickets and paper tickets. Online cancellations carry a 10%, 20% or 30% deduction depending on how much time remains, and become unavailable less than two hours before departure or after the guard chart is prepared. Paper tickets must be refunded at a reservation center and have different provisions after chart production or departure. The official pages reviewed do not confirm that an existing ticket can be moved to another date or train, so ask the channel that issued it before cancelling.
First identify your ticket type
The refund route depends on how you booked. Pakistan Railways’ Terms and Conditions direct online e-ticket passengers to the service provider that received payment, with the refund returned through the same payment method. A paper ticket bought at a reservation center must be presented at a reservation center for a refund.

- Online e-ticket: use the original booking/payment service provider for the refund, and keep the cancellation message and original CNIC available.
- Paper ticket: visit a reservation center with a photocopy of the passenger’s CNIC.
How to cancel an online e-ticket and claim the refund
- Check the departure details and act promptly. The published cancellation terms calculate the deadline against departure from the train’s originating station or the origin of the reserved seat’s quota—not necessarily the passenger’s boarding station.
- Submit the cancellation while it is available. Pakistan Railways’ online cancellation interface displays seats for selection and a deduction based on time to departure. Cancellation is not allowed when fewer than two hours remain or once the guard chart has been produced. The terms say charts are often made about two hours before departure, but may be prepared earlier at some remote locations, so the practical cutoff can vary.
- Contact the provider that took payment. Pakistan Railways says the refund is made by the same method used to pay. Show the passenger’s original CNIC and the cancellation SMS or text message to that provider.
| Time before departure | Published online cancellation outcome |
|---|---|
| More than 48 hours | 10% of the amount paid is deducted. |
| 48 to 24 hours | 20% of the amount paid is deducted. |
| Within 24 hours, but before the no-cancellation cutoff | 30% of the amount paid is deducted. |
| Fewer than 2 hours, or the guard chart has been produced | Online cancellation is unavailable. |
These deductions and cutoffs are those shown in Pakistan Railways’ Terms and Conditions; the page does not show a publication year.
How to get a refund for a paper ticket
Take the paper ticket to a reservation center; Pakistan Railways says a passenger may use any nearest reservation center. Bring a photocopy of the passenger’s CNIC. The published policy lists these deductions for cancellation before departure:
#1 Best Overall
| Timing | Published paper-ticket outcome |
|---|---|
| More than 48 hours before departure | 10% deduction. |
| 48 to 24 hours before departure | 20% deduction. |
| Within 24 hours before departure | 30% deduction. |
| After guard-chart production | 30% deduction. |
| Within 3 hours after train departure | 50% deduction. |
| Train cancelled | Full refund under the paper-ticket policy. |
These are paper-ticket provisions; do not apply the after-chart or after-departure rules to an online ticket, for which the terms instead state that cancellation is unavailable after chart production or inside the two-hour cutoff.
What to do if the train is cancelled or substantially delayed
Online ticket: train cancelled or delayed more than six hours
For an online booking, Pakistan Railways’ refund policy says no deduction applies if the train is cancelled or delayed by more than six hours. It directs the passenger to submit a written application, signed by the station master to confirm the event, to the Chief Commercial Manager office.
Reserved coach unavailable because of damage or accident
The same terms describe a full refund where the reserved coach is unavailable because of damage or an accident. The passenger must make a written request and obtain a station-master certificate, then submit the request to the Chief Commercial Manager office.

Can I change my Pakistan Railways ticket date?
The official terms and cancellation interface reviewed explain cancellation and refund, but do not specify a process for changing an existing ticket to another date or train. A change, its availability, any fee and its deadline are therefore unconfirmed by those pages. Before cancelling, ask the original online booking/payment provider about an e-ticket or a reservation center about a paper ticket whether that particular booking can be changed.

Where to raise a refund complaint
Pakistan Railways’ complaint-resolution page estimates one week to resolve complaints about online and advance-reservation ticket refunds. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed completion time. The page also says a printed complaint book is available from station masters or guards and lists station management or the divisional commercial officer as complaint contacts for several service issues.
If you need to contact headquarters, the official contact page lists Pakistan Railways Headquarters Office in Lahore, the Chief Commercial & Facilitation Manager at 042-99201383, and [email protected]. Check that page for current details before using them, as contact information can change.
