Its Steam listing calls for a SteamVR-compatible VR setup and tracked controllers. Eye tracking is an optional multiplayer presentation feature, and the developer’s current instructions tie it to streaming Climbey through Steam Link.
What you need to play Climbey
Climbey is listed as a VR-only game with tracked-controller support and SteamVR standing or room-scale play. The store page does not specify a particular headset model or list eye tracking as a requirement.

What Climbey’s optional eye tracking does
The developer describes eye tracking as a way to show animated, “working” eyes on players in multiplayer. The feature passes eye-tracking data through SteamVR Link OSC. The announcement does not describe eye tracking as part of climbing or grabbing controls, or as necessary for single-player play.

Steam Link and Steam Frame compatibility
In a December 24, 2025 announcement, the developer said multiplayer eye tracking would work only when Climbey was streamed through Steam Link. The post named Meta Quest Pro and Play For Dream MR as possible sources of eye-tracking data, while expressing uncertainty about other headsets; it does not establish that every headset/runtime combination works.
The same announcement said Steam Frame did not then broadcast the required OSC data itself. A later developer update dated October 2, 2026 says “Add support for Eye-Openness via OSC,” but does not say whether Steam Frame’s broadcast behavior changed. That update alone does not confirm native Steam Frame eye tracking for Climbey; the documented route remains streaming through Steam Link.

Native Steam Frame play is a separate matter
The developer also added Steam Frame controller bindings and native-detection performance adjustments. The developer reported that the game generally maintained 90 fps at approximately 40–50% resolution under that configuration, but warned that demanding community levels could become CPU-limited and perform worse. This is a developer-reported result for the described setup, not a performance guarantee across maps or devices.
Optional VIVE Pro Eye setup
VIVE Pro Eye setup is relevant only if you want to try eye tracking; it is not needed to play Climbey. HTC’s first-run instructions and calibration guide describe this sequence:

- Install VIVE software and connect the VIVE Pro Eye headset.
- For first-time setup, launch SR_Runtime, start SteamVR, open VIVE Pro Eye from the in-headset dashboard, and accept the license.
- In the dashboard, enable eye tracking and select Calibrate.
- Fit the headset, adjust the IPD, and follow the calibration dot. Each user needs their own calibration.
That headset setup does not, by itself, establish that Climbey’s multiplayer eye animation will work in every runtime or streaming configuration; the developer’s stated Steam Link condition still applies.
