To get a Mauritius-associated IP address, you connect through a VPN provider that currently offers a Mauritius exit location, then confirm that the IP shown by an independent lookup tool really reads as Mauritius and that the specific site or app you need accepts it. A provider’s listing is the starting point, not proof that the address will work.
What a Mauritian IP address does and does not do
A VPN app sends your device’s traffic through a server run by the provider. Websites and apps then see the IP address of that exit point instead of your home or roaming connection. If the provider assigns an address that geolocation databases classify as Mauritius, a location-sensitive service may treat you as being in Mauritius. That is the whole mechanism. It does not change your identity, and it does not guarantee that any particular service will grant access.

The most common reason people search for this is that they are abroad and cannot install or use a Mauritius-only app, or cannot reach a Mauritian site that checks location. One reader described exactly this situation: they could not install a local app while overseas and wanted a VPN that would give them a Mauritius address.

Why a “Mauritius” location may not mean a server on the island
Some providers run virtual locations. The provider lists a country, assigns an IP address registered to that country, but keeps the physical server somewhere else. PureVPN’s support notice on this topic states that virtual server locations are ones where the chosen country’s IP is assigned while the server sits elsewhere, and it lists Mauritius among the virtual locations it removed. Two consequences follow:

- A Mauritius entry in a provider’s app is not, by itself, evidence of a physically hosted Mauritian server.
- A location can disappear from a provider’s list. Check availability on the day you buy or connect, not from an old article or search snippet.
Proton VPN publishes a Mauritius location page that describes selecting Mauritius in its app and connecting. That is the provider’s own description of its workflow. Treat its claims as the provider’s statements and verify the outcome yourself, as set out below.
Setup steps
- Open the provider’s website and check its current server or country list. Confirm that Mauritius still appears. If it does not, the method stops here, and you should choose a different route or accept that the location is unavailable.
- Read the plan details directly from the provider: device support, simultaneous connection limits, privacy and logging policy, and refund terms. Prices and features change, so do not rely on figures quoted elsewhere.
- Install the provider’s official app on your phone or computer and sign in. Avoid third-party clones and unofficial configuration files.
- Open the app’s location list, select Mauritius, and connect. In Proton VPN’s described workflow, this is the Mauritius entry in its country list followed by the connect control.
- Before opening the target site, load an IP lookup service in the same browser or on the same device and check the reported IP address and country. If the country reads as anything other than Mauritius, disconnect, select a different server, and check again.
- Test the exact site, bank, app store, broadcaster or service you need. Note the result, because acceptance is decided by that service, not by the VPN.
Verification checks and what each one tells you
Each check answers a different question. Passing one does not mean the others pass.

| Check | What it tells you | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Provider’s current location list | Whether Mauritius is offered today | Only the provider’s claim; availability can change |
| IP lookup country | How common geolocation databases classify the exit IP | Databases differ and may lag behind provider reassignments |
| Physical server location | Whether the machine is actually in Mauritius | Often not stated by providers; a virtual location can hide the true host |
| Target service test | Whether that service accepts the address | Result applies only to that service, on that day |
Troubleshooting when the IP is wrong or blocked
- Lookup shows a neighbouring country. A South African or Indian exit address is not a Mauritius-assigned address. Try another Mauritius server if one is listed, or contact the provider and ask which country the IP is registered to.
- Mauritius is missing from the app. The provider may have removed it. Do not assume an old list is still valid.
- Lookup shows Mauritius but the service still refuses access. The service may use its own checks, such as account history, payment details, device signals or a separate verification step. Contact the service directly; the VPN cannot control its decision.
- Connection drops or speeds are poor. Switch to a different server in the same location, or check the provider’s status page. Speed claims from marketing pages were not independently measured for this guide.
Comparing providers
If you are choosing between providers, compare them on these points rather than on headline claims:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Current Mauritius listing: Confirm the option appears in the provider’s own current list.
- Virtual or physical location: Ask the provider whether the Mauritius server is hosted on the island. A clear answer is better than a vague one.
- Device support: Confirm the app works on the devices you will use.
- Privacy and logging: Read the provider’s own policy. Independent audits of provider privacy claims were not reviewed for this guide.
- Refund terms: Check whether you can test the Mauritius connection and obtain a refund if it does not work for your target service.
Legal and accuracy limits
This guide does not establish whether consumer VPN use is lawful in Mauritius. The most relevant Mauritian regulatory document found in the sourcing is an Information and Communication Technologies Authority of Mauritius framework for internet service providers offering non-geostationary satellite internet, covering local points of presence and terminal authentication. It does not address whether individuals may use VPNs. If legality matters to your situation, check current Mauritian law or official guidance from the authority before relying on any arrangement.

The method described here is a verification process, not a guarantee of access. Location availability, IP geolocation and third-party acceptance can each change independently.
Verdict: a VPN with a currently listed Mauritius exit is a workable way to obtain a Mauritius-classified IP address, but only the lookup result and your target service’s response confirm that it works for you.
