If the name reappears afterward, the contact is usually stored in a second place, such as a Google account, the SIM, or a messaging app, and that copy has to be removed as well.
Delete a single contact
Samsung’s typical Contacts workflow is the same across most Galaxy models, but menu names, icon positions and confirmation prompts can differ by model, region and One UI version. Samsung’s UK contact management guide makes the same point: screens can look different depending on device and operating system.

- Open Contacts. You can also reach your contacts from the Contacts tab inside the Phone app.
- Tap the contact you want to remove.
- Tap More (three vertical dots), then tap Delete.
- Confirm when the prompt appears. Some versions skip this step, and some show a different confirmation wording.
According to Samsung’s UK guide, the deleted entry is moved to the recycle bin rather than erased immediately. The restore option is covered in the recovery section below.

Delete several contacts at once
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 User Guide (2024) documents a multi-select route for that model. Other Galaxy models may use the same path, but check your own guide or screen before relying on it.

- Open Contacts.
- Tap the menu icon, then tap Edit.
- Tap each contact you want to remove so that it is selected.
- Tap Delete.
Recover a deleted contact
Samsung’s Japan Contacts app guide describes a Trash feature that makes recovery possible. Recovery works only if Trash was turned on at the moment the contact was deleted. When it is on, Samsung’s guidance for that app says a deleted contact can be restored within 30 days. That window comes from the instructions for the Contacts app as Samsung documents them, and it is not a guarantee for every model, account or software setup.
- Open Contacts.
- Tap More options.
- Tap Trash.
- Tap the contact, then tap Restore.
If Trash was off when the contact was deleted, Samsung’s guide says it cannot be restored through this feature. In that case, add the contact again manually, or check whether the original copy still exists in the Google account it came from.

Why a deleted contact keeps coming back
Deleting the visible entry in Contacts removes only the copy that view shows. If the same person is saved in another location, that copy can sync back or appear in another app. Samsung’s regional troubleshooting page, which is written in Russian and was last updated on 3 July 2026, sets out the same checks: confirm where the contact is stored, look at messaging apps, and clean up the source. Work from the location that owns the contact.

Last resorts
Samsung’s troubleshooting page also mentions more advanced steps: clearing the Contacts app’s data and performing a device reset. A reset deletes device data, so back up the phone first. Use these steps only if the storage and account checks above do not solve the problem, and contact Samsung Support before you reset.

eSIM contact saving on One UI 6.1 and later
Samsung’s Caribbean support page states that saving contacts to an eSIM is no longer supported on Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 or later. eSIM availability depends on country and carrier, so if your problem involves contacts stored on an eSIM, check with your carrier and Samsung Support for what your device supports.
