No single robot vacuum is worth buying for every home. The right choice depends on what covers your floors and what lands on them. Current independent buying guides point to four models worth comparing: the Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete for a premium all-round machine, the Dreame D10 Plus Gen 2 for budget routine cleaning, the Roborock QV 35S for a mid-priced self-emptying option, and the Roborock Saros 20 as a premium alternative.

The picks below come from published tests and manufacturer listings. They are not a record of a home trial by this site’s writer, and prices, bundles, and stock change often, so confirm them before you buy.

Start with your floors and the mess you actually make

A robot that clears crumbs from laminate can struggle with a rug that traps grit. Independent testers report results by surface and debris type for this reason, so the first question is what the machine will cross every day.

  • Mostly hard floors with crumbs, grit, and light pet hair. This is where budget models do their best work. Tom’s Guide found the Dreame D10 Plus Gen 2 a good fit for everyday hard-floor messes.
  • Thick carpet, heavy shedding, or dried-on stains. Expect a step down from hard-floor performance. The same Tom’s Guide guide cautions that the D10 Plus Gen 2 is weaker in these conditions, and describes its mop as basic, better suited to daily dirt than dried-on marks.
  • Mixed floors with low-pile rugs. Look for surface-by-surface results rather than a single headline score. A machine that scores well on hardwood can fall off on carpet, as the QV 35S results below show.

The shortlist

These candidates appear in current independent buying coverage. Suction figures are manufacturer or listing claims and are not directly comparable across brands.

Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete: premium all-round candidate

Tom’s Guide names the X60 Max Ultra Complete its best robot vacuum tested in 2026, reporting strong pickup across debris types and good mopping in its tests (Tom’s Guide 2026 roundup). That is the publication’s conclusion, not a result from a home trial. Check the included dock and mop hardware on the Dreame US robot vacuum collection before buying, because the bundle determines how much maintenance you will take on.

Dreame D10 Plus Gen 2: budget candidate for routine cleaning

Tom’s Guide names the D10 Plus Gen 2 its best model tested under $300 and reports good value, especially on hard floors (Tom’s Guide cheap robot vacuum guide). The 6,000 Pa suction figure in that roundup is a manufacturer specification, not a comparative test result. “Under $300” describes the price at the time of that test, not a guaranteed current price. Its limits are the ones listed above: thick carpet, heavy pet hair, and dried stains.

Roborock QV 35S: mid-priced, self-emptying candidate

The QV 35S is the self-emptying option in this group. Tom’s Guide’s controlled tests gave it strong hardwood results, but weaker relative performance on carpet pet hair, and it notes that mopping and dock features are less advanced than premium alternatives (Tom’s Guide 2026 roundup). The full test numbers are in the next section.

Roborock Saros 20: premium alternative

Tom’s Guide’s page includes controlled results for the Saros 20 by floor and debris type, and lists its suction at 36,000 Pa in the same 2026 roundup (Tom’s Guide 2026 roundup). The sources describe it as a premium choice. Compare its current price and feature bundle against the cheaper picks before treating it as good value.

Reading the QV 35S test numbers

Tom’s Guide’s controlled test table for the QV 35S reports the percentages below. They describe that publication’s test conditions, not universal cleaning efficiency for every home.

Surface Cereal Flaxseed Pet hair
Hardwood 98% 98% 92%
Carpet 93% 99% 60%

The pattern matters more than any single number. Hard-floor pickup is strong across all three debris types, while carpet pet hair drops to 60%. If your home has a lot of carpet and shedding pets, that gap should weigh more heavily than the hardwood scores.

What suction numbers do and do not tell you

Suction is the most advertised figure, and it is the least comparable. Each brand publishes its own measurement, and a higher number does not guarantee better pickup on carpet or pet hair. Roborock’s US catalog lists Qrevo Edge 2 at 25,000 Pa, Qrevo 2 Pro at 20,000 Pa, Qrevo S Pro at 18,500 Pa, and QV and QR series variants at 10,000 Pa or 8,000 Pa (Roborock US robot vacuums). Treat those as specifications for the listed series. Use the independent surface-by-surface results to judge the machine you are actually buying.

Dock, emptying, and mopping

A self-emptying dock and a mop system are separate features, and many buyers pay for one while expecting the other. Check each one on its own:

  • Auto-emptying moves dirt from the robot’s bin into the dock, which cuts hands-on emptying after each run. It does not wash mop pads.
  • Mop washing and drying varies by series. Roborock lists different dock and mop feature sets across its lineup (Roborock US robot vacuums). Confirm whether your model washes and dries pads, and what you must refill and clean.
  • Dock size matters. TechRadar notes that a more comprehensive dock can be bulky (TechRadar best robot vacuum guide). Measure the floor space and confirm a clear path to the dock.
  • Mopping ability is a different job from dust collection. A damp maintenance pad suits daily dust and light dirt. A scrubbing system is a heavier task, and you should check whether the model lifts or avoids carpet while mopping.

Navigation, obstacles, and room fit

Dreame and Roborock both advertise obstacle recognition, threshold crossing, and navigation features on their listings (Dreame US robot vacuums; Roborock US robot vacuums). These are manufacturer descriptions, not test rankings. Before you buy, work through this check:

  1. Measure the gap under your lowest furniture, then compare it with the listed height of the exact model.
  2. Measure your highest threshold, such as a sliding-door track or a raised doorsill, and check the listed threshold-crossing spec.
  3. Walk the room and list cables, socks, and pet toys on the floor. A lived-in room tests obstacle avoidance far more than a cleared one.
  4. If shedding is your main problem, check whether the brush design is described for anti-tangle use. Roborock lists anti-tangle features on several series, but that is a specification, not proof of better pickup.

Noise, runtime, app control, and privacy

TechRadar’s reviews check noise during cleaning and emptying, battery life, how often the robot returns to its dock, usability, and app control (TechRadar best robot vacuum guide). Consumer Reports’ 2026 buying guide uses navigation, pet hair, ease of use, noise, data privacy, and data security as its comparison columns (Consumer Reports Buying Guide 2026). In that guide, the iRobot Roomba Max 705 scored 74 overall, with an approximate retail price of $725. That price is the guide’s approximation, not a current quote. Models that rely on an app or online account should have their privacy and sharing settings reviewed during setup.

Price, availability, and why rankings change

RTINGS updated its budget and cheap picks on August 7, 2026, because of availability and pricing. At that update it listed the Roborock Qrevo Curv as upper mid-range and the MOVA P10 Pro Ultra as budget (RTINGS best robot vacuums). Those tiers can shift as stock and prices change. Compare the total cost of the exact model and dock bundle, not the family name or an older sale price.

Accessories and compatibility

Replacement filters, brushes, dust bags, mop pads, and approved cleaning solutions are the most common follow-on purchases. Compatibility depends on the exact model and dock, so check the model number before ordering. Roborock’s official US store includes an accessories shop (Roborock US robot vacuums), but it does not confirm that every third-party accessory fits a given model.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
