How to Generate Website Screenshots for an Indian Ecommerce Catalog with Screenshotlayer

A practical guide to capturing Indian ecommerce product pages with Screenshotlayer, including request settings, localization limits, catalog volume, caching, and errors.

Use Screenshotlayer’s URL-based screenshot API to capture product pages from a list of product URLs, choosing a viewport, full-page capture or thumbnail, output format, and—when the storefront supports it—language and user-agent settings. The API returns rendered images, not verified product data. India-specific language, currency, stock, and layout depend on what the target store serves for the request; Screenshotlayer’s documentation does not establish a special India-localization mode.

How to take screenshots of product pages in bulk

Screenshotlayer is a REST API: send an account access key and the target page URL, then save the returned screenshot. For a catalog pipeline, generate requests from the store’s authoritative product URL inventory rather than constructing URLs from product names. Define which page types to capture—such as product detail pages or category pages—and keep each result associated with its source URL and capture settings.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  1. Prepare the capture set. Record the product URLs and decide whether to capture product pages, category pages, or both.
  2. Choose variants deliberately. Set the viewport and any locale-related headers for each capture. A mobile/desktop or language variant is another capture request; include it only if it serves a real review or display need.
  3. Choose the image shape. Use full-page capture for long product details, or a thumbnail width for compact previews. Confirm the resulting dimensions work for your storage and display pipeline.
  4. Set rendering and refresh behavior. Add a delay only if the page needs time to render visible effects or animation. Decide whether the default cache is appropriate for prices, stock, promotions, and other changing content.
  5. Save metadata with each result. Store the source URL, capture time, viewport, language and user-agent settings, and output format. Screenshotlayer documents export to S3 and FTP; check current plan eligibility before relying on those options.
  6. Handle errors and review samples. Detect API errors and quota limits in your application, and inspect captures for blocked pages, consent overlays, missing lazy-loaded content, or unexpected localization.

The homepage documents viewport selection, full-page capture, thumbnail width, custom headers, CSS injection, delay, cache TTL, URL encryption, and S3 or FTP export. Check the current Screenshotlayer documentation and account dashboard for endpoint and parameter syntax. An example URL printed on the homepage contains an apparent hostname typo; do not copy it.

Build a Screenshotlayer request safely

The FAQ gives the API base pattern as http://api.screenshotlayer.com/api/capture?access_key=YOUR_ACCESS_KEY. Use HTTPS if supported by the current account documentation. The API requires a registered account access key; keep it on your server, out of browser-side code, source control, and public logs. Build query parameters with a URL-encoding library rather than concatenating an unescaped product URL by hand.

Use the current endpoint and syntax shown in your Screenshotlayer account documentation. The following is a request-shape example, not a claim that a capture was executed:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotlayer.com/api/capture"
  --data-urlencode "access_key=YOUR_ACCESS_KEY"
  --data-urlencode "url=https://store.example.in/products/item"
  --data-urlencode "viewport=1280x800"
  --data-urlencode "fullpage=1"
  -o product.png

Replace the example product URL with a real product page and confirm the endpoint protocol and accepted parameters in your current account documentation. The homepage’s example uses url, viewport, and fullpage=1; its FAQ documents the access-key requirement.

Can I capture a full ecommerce product page?

Yes. Screenshotlayer’s homepage documents a full-page option, shown as fullpage=1, to capture the page height rather than only the initial viewport. For a compact catalog preview, the homepage also documents a custom thumbnail width. The FAQ says output formats are PNG by default, JPEG, or GIF; it does not list WebP.

Full-page captures can be much taller than viewport images, so check image dimensions and downstream file-size, storage, and display constraints. Review representative pages to see whether content that loads lazily appears in the rendered result; do not assume every product page loads all below-the-fold content without appropriate page behavior or delay.

How do I get mobile and desktop screenshots?

Set the documented viewport for the display size you want to represent. Capture mobile and desktop variants as separate requests when both are useful, and record the viewport with each image so a downstream reviewer can distinguish them. The homepage documents viewport selection and custom user-agent headers; set a user-agent that matches the intended page behavior if the storefront varies by device. A viewport alone should not be treated as proof that the site served its mobile-specific experience.

Can I set the language for a screenshot?

The FAQ documents custom HTTP headers, including Accept-Language. Set that header to request a language preference, then verify the actual rendered page. It does not guarantee Hindi or another Indian-language version: the storefront must support and serve that language under the request conditions. Currency, prices, availability, and page layout likewise depend on the target site’s own localization and serving rules; the reviewed Screenshotlayer pages do not establish India-specific behavior.

How many screenshots do I need for my catalog?

Estimate usage as the number of product URLs multiplied by the number of viewport/language variants and capture frequency, then add retries and any category or campaign pages. This is a planning calculation from per-request quotas, not a vendor-reported statistic.

Screenshotlayer’s pricing page lists these vendor-published plans and quotas; prices are in USD, and the page does not state a year for these figures. Recheck live pricing and your dashboard before budgeting.

Plan Monthly snapshots Listed monthly price Commercial use / export notes
Free 100 Free Listed as non-commercial
Basic 10,000 USD 19.99 Commercial use listed; dedicated workers on paid tiers
Professional 30,000 USD 59.99 Commercial use listed; S3/FTP export listed
Enterprise 75,000 USD 149.99 Commercial use listed; S3/FTP export listed

The pricing page lists dedicated workers on paid tiers and S3/FTP export for Professional and Enterprise. The FAQ says annual billing can reduce the total by up to 15%; confirm whether that offer applies to your account and current plan. The overages page lists per-call charges beyond quota: Basic USD 0.007996, Professional USD 0.0079986667, and Enterprise USD 0.0079994667 per call. Check the live pricing page and overages documentation before committing to a capture cadence.

Cache, freshness, and reliability

The Screenshotlayer FAQ states a default screenshot cache period of 2,592,000 seconds (30 days) and says the ttl parameter accepts a custom value lower than that default. A cached image can therefore be older than a current product price or stock status. Choose a refresh policy based on how the image will be used, and retain the capture time in your metadata. A screenshot is a visual record at capture time, not evidence of current inventory or price.

The FAQ reports uptime “around 99.9%” but says it provides no public statistics; this is a vendor statement, not an independent measurement or guarantee. Design the catalog job to detect and handle returned errors, quotas, and failed captures rather than assuming every request succeeds. Screenshotlayer’s terms place responsibility for detecting and handling returned error messages on the subscriber.

Troubleshooting catalog captures

  • The request fails or returns an API error: check that the access key is valid, the URL is properly encoded, the current endpoint and parameter names match your account documentation, and your plan has quota available. Log the error response securely without exposing the key.
  • The wrong language or currency appears: verify the product URL, storefront locale behavior, and Accept-Language header. A header can request a language, but the store determines whether that version is served.
  • The page looks like desktop on a mobile capture: verify the viewport and, if the store varies by user-agent, set a matching user-agent too. Inspect the rendered result rather than inferring device behavior from the request settings.
  • Below-the-fold content is missing: use full-page capture and check whether content is lazy-loaded or requires more render time. The documented delay can wait for effects or animations; review samples to establish appropriate behavior for your site.
  • The screenshot shows stale pricing or stock: account for the documented default cache and set a lower custom TTL when needed. Refresh policy should reflect how quickly the target page changes.
  • Consent panels or other overlays obscure content: inspect captures for overlays and decide how your workflow should handle them. The reviewed documentation does not establish that Screenshotlayer automatically removes consent banners, popups, or chat widgets.
  • You exceed the monthly allowance: calculate URL × variants × refreshes plus retries, then compare with plan quota and listed overage rates. Confirm the applicable terms in the dashboard before scheduling bulk recaptures.

Permissions and use of captured images

Screenshotlayer’s terms make the subscriber responsible for credential secrecy, usage limits, and handling API errors. They also restrict redistribution and exploitation of API services or data, permit display to end users under stated conditions, and disallow transferring API data outside the application except as expressly allowed. The terms page says it was last modified 17 February 2018, so review the current agreement for your intended storage, publication, or reuse before deploying a catalog archive. See Screenshotlayer’s terms.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its one-request capture can return an image or PDF, and the API supports the same parameter names other screenshot APIs use, which can make switching straightforward. Example using the required target URL:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; and its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up free for ScreenshotNeo.
