Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To generate a reliable social media card, put page-specific Open Graph metadata in the page’s initial HTML, point og:image to a public absolute image URL, and check the deployed page with the target platform’s preview inspector. A card’s title, description, image, and destination should describe the exact page being shared—not just the site as a whole.
What a link preview reads
Social platforms and other sharing services use page metadata to assemble a link preview. Open Graph defines properties including og:title, og:type, og:image, and og:url; og:description is a standard additional property. LinkedIn’s sharing guidance also calls for title, image, description, and URL tags. The platform may apply its own rendering and image rules, so metadata is a starting point rather than a guarantee of identical cards everywhere. Open Graph protocol · LinkedIn Help

Choose page-specific card content
For each distinct page, choose a precise title, concise description, canonical URL, and representative share image. If every route inherits a homepage title or generic image, its card may misrepresent the page. A shared default image can work when it genuinely fits the pages that use it; otherwise, provide a page-specific image.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUse an absolute HTTPS URL for the image so a crawler can request it without resolving a relative path. Add og:image:alt describing what the image communicates. The protocol recommends this when og:image is present; it should describe the image, not repeat the caption. web.dev’s social discovery guidance

Add Open Graph tags to the page
Place the tags in the rendered document’s <head>. Replace the example values with the data for the page being shared:
<meta property="og:type" content="website">
<meta property="og:title" content="A specific, accurate page title">
<meta property="og:description" content="A short summary of this page">
<meta property="og:url" content="https://example.com/page">
<meta property="og:image" content="https://example.com/images/page-card.jpg">
<meta property="og:image:alt" content="Description of what the social card image communicates">
Choose an appropriate og:type for the page. The protocol defines types beyond website. It also documents optional image metadata such as MIME type, width, height, and secure URL. Include optional fields when useful to the target platform, but do not treat them as a substitute for making the image fetchable.

For a distinct large card on X
A platform-specific declaration may be appropriate when you want a large image card on X. Great Docs’ implementation example uses twitter:card with summary_large_image, plus Twitter title, description, and image metadata. Follow the target platform’s current documentation; adding these fields does not ensure every platform will display the same card. Great Docs social-card guide

For static sites or frameworks, generate the metadata at build time or server-render it so the HTML response for each URL already contains that page’s values. A client-side update that happens only after JavaScript runs may not be read consistently by crawlers; the implementation example documents generating tags per page and checking built HTML, not universal crawler behavior for client-rendered pages. Inspect the built output and the live response after deployment. Great Docs social-card guide

Prepare an image for the destination
Image requirements differ by platform. For LinkedIn organic sharing, LinkedIn Help specifies a minimum of 1200 × 627 pixels, a maximum file size of 5 MB, and recommends a 1.91:1 ratio. It also says images under 401 pixels wide display as thumbnails. Those are LinkedIn-specific figures, not cross-platform requirements; the help page was last updated two years before its 2026 access, so confirm the live guidance before relying on exact limits. LinkedIn Help
Great Docs recommends 1200 × 630 pixels for its own workflow, PNG for graphics or text, and JPEG for photos. This is that guide’s recommendation, not an official universal standard. Keep text legible at small preview sizes, use clear contrast, and avoid putting essential details where a crop may remove them. Great Docs social-card guide

Publish and validate the live card
- Build the page’s metadata. Confirm that the title, description, canonical URL, image URL, and image alternative text belong to the specific page.
- Inspect the generated HTML. View the built file or live page source and verify the expected
og:tags, plus any target-specific card tags. Check that values are present in the HTML response rather than only appearing after a client-side interaction. - Check public access to the image. Open the absolute image URL without being logged in. Ensure hosting rules, authentication, or crawler-blocking settings do not prevent a platform from fetching it.
- Use the target platform’s inspector. Submit the deployed URL to the platform’s current preview or sharing-inspection tool. Check the title, description, image, crop, and destination as rendered. Great Docs lists LinkedIn Post Inspector and Facebook Sharing Debugger; verify that the relevant tool is currently available before using it.
- Correct the source and retest. If a preview is wrong, fix the HTML or image accessibility first, then use the platform’s available cache-refresh or inspection function if it still shows older information. Cache duration is not established as universal.
Troubleshoot missing or incorrect previews
The preview has an old title, description, or image
Inspect the live HTML first. If the deployed tags are correct but the service still shows previous data, use its available inspector or cache-refresh mechanism and test again. There is no single cache duration that applies to every platform.

The image does not appear
- Check for an absolute image URL in
og:imageand confirm it is the intended asset. - Make sure the image responds publicly without authentication or crawler-blocking rules. LinkedIn identifies blocked or protected image locations as a reason an image may not appear.
- Check the file’s dimensions, size, and format against the destination platform’s current requirements.
- Verify the tag is present in the HTML that the crawler receives.
The card shows data from another page
Check whether the route is inheriting site-wide defaults. Render the correct title, description, canonical URL, and image for every page whose content differs.

If you need a screenshot of a page to use as a card asset or for another workflow, ScreenshotNeo returns an image or PDF from one GET request. It is a screenshot API and MCP server, not a replacement for publishing Open Graph tags: platforms still need your page metadata to build a normal link preview. Cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before a capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP server tools for screenshots, page information, and PDFs. It includes 1,000 screenshots per month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
