To capture a website in a phone-style view with Apify, run its Website Screenshot Generator Actor with a mobile viewport enabled, set the viewport dimensions and device scale factor, choose an output format, and start the run. A useful starting configuration is a 390 × 844 viewport, 2× device scale factor, viewport capture, and PNG output—the values in Apify’s mobile landing-page example, not a universal phone standard. Apify’s Actor listing describes the available capture modes and settings.
Set up a mobile-style capture in Apify
-
Open Apify’s Website Screenshot Generator Actor and enter the public page URL you want to capture. The cited workflow documents public-page capture; it does not establish that the Actor can bypass a login or other access control.

Choose the capture scope. Select viewport capture for the visible phone-sized screen, or full-page capture when you need the scrollable page.

Enable the mobile viewport and enter the dimensions you want to test. Apify’s example uses 390 × 844 pixels. Treat this as a configurable example rather than a specification for every phone.

Choose an output format. The Actor listing offers PNG, JPEG, and PDF; the mobile example uses PNG.
-
Configure the page-wait option and, if needed, an extra delay. The example uses a page-load wait and an additional 1,000 ms. That is a demonstrated configuration, not a guarantee that every page will finish rendering in that time.

Start the Actor run, then inspect its dataset and stored screenshot output. Example metadata includes the requested and final URLs, status, title, screenshot key and URL, dimensions, format, capture time, and any error.
For the example settings, see Apify’s mobile landing-page capture example.
Choose dimensions, density, format, and scope
| Setting | What it controls | Practical choice |
|---|---|---|
| Viewport versus full page | Whether the image shows only the visible screen or the entire scrollable page. | Use viewport capture to check the first screen at phone dimensions; use full-page capture to review the whole layout. |
| Viewport dimensions | The layout width and height the page renders against. | 390 × 844 is the size in Apify’s mobile landing-page example. Try other dimensions when you need to inspect a particular responsive breakpoint. |
| Device scale factor | The output pixel density relative to the configured viewport. | Apify examples demonstrate 2× and 3×. Choose based on the image density and file size you need; the examples do not establish a universally preferable value. |
| Output format | The type of image or document produced. | The Actor listing includes PNG, JPEG, and PDF. The mobile example uses PNG. |
| Wait behavior | How long the capture process allows the page to load or render before taking the screenshot. | Begin with the page-load wait; add a delay if the page needs more time for visible content to appear. The example’s 1,000 ms extra delay is not a site-independent guarantee. |
| Element selector | Can limit capture to a particular page element instead of the full page. | Use this when you need a specific component or section; the Actor listing describes selector-based capture. |
What a mobile screenshot does—and does not—show
A mobile screenshot in this workflow means the page is rendered with a configured mobile viewport; the cited instructions do not require a physical phone. The viewport dimensions let you inspect responsive behavior at a chosen width, but the examples do not establish pixel-perfect fidelity across all phones, browsers, or breakpoints. For broader checking, capture more than one viewport size and compare the results.

Apify’s examples also distinguish a mobile viewport from other device-emulation settings. One separate Apify Actor example uses a 390 × 844 viewport, 3× density, an iPhone user agent, viewport-only capture, and JPEG. Those settings belong to that separate Actor example, not necessarily to the Website Screenshot Generator.

After the run completes, use the stored screenshot file to review the rendered page and the dataset metadata to identify what was captured. The example fields include the final URL, status, dimensions, format, capture time, and an error field. Check the final URL rather than assuming every requested address stayed on the same page; redirects can change what the screenshot represents.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
-
The page looks like desktop. Confirm that mobile viewport mode is enabled and that the viewport width is set to the intended value. A physical phone is not part of the documented workflow.

Some content is missing. Check the run’s status and error metadata, then review the wait behavior. A page may need an additional delay before a screenshot is taken; the example’s 1,000 ms delay is only a starting point.
-
The image is too small or too large. Check both viewport dimensions and device scale factor. Apify examples use 2× and 3× density, so adjust the factor to the output you need rather than treating one example as a rule.

The capture omits content farther down the page. Change viewport capture to full-page mode if you want the scrollable page rather than just the visible screen.

ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API and an MCP server for AI agents. It accepts consent banners as a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the result identified in response headers. AI agents can use its MCP tools, including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.
