To generate a PDF from a URL with Html2Pdf.app in Node.js, send a server-side POST request to https://api.html2pdf.app/v1/generate with the page URL in the JSON html field and your API key in the X-API-Key header. Check the response status, read a successful response as binary data, and save those bytes as a PDF. The documented Node.js example uses native fetch and requires Node.js 18 or newer.
Generate and save a PDF in Node.js
Keep the API key on your server, such as in an environment variable. Do not put it in browser JavaScript, a public repository, or a client-side template. The html field can contain a publicly reachable URL or raw HTML; this example sends a URL.

Choose the synchronous or callback workflow

The documentation does not set a general latency threshold for switching to callbacks; choose based on your application flow. Html2Pdf.app says failed callback delivery may be retried up to three times, so make your callback handler safe to receive the same completion more than once. A 202 is not the PDF itself.
Tune the PDF layout and rendering
Start with a representative page and change options only when its output calls for them. A URL can render differently depending on the page’s CSS, the availability of remote resources, and when its JavaScript finishes; the provider describes a headless Chromium renderer and notes these factors in its documentation.

For example, add page settings to the same JSON body as the URL: { html: 'https://www.example.com', format: 'A4', landscape: false, media: 'screen', scale: 1 }. These are rendering controls to test against your target pages, not a guarantee that every site’s layout or resource loading will be identical. Use the API documentation for the full parameter set, including security-related options.

Handle errors without saving an error page as a PDF
Always check response.ok before reading the body as a PDF. The provider lists these synchronous status cases:
- 400: the source URL is inaccessible or a parameter is invalid. Check that the URL is public and that the request options are valid.
- 401: the API key is missing or invalid. Check the
X-API-Keyheader and server environment variable. - 403: a plan limit has been reached. Check your account’s current plan and usage rather than repeatedly sending the same request.
- 500: an unhandled server error. The provider recommends retrying after a short delay with increasing intervals.
Avoid blindly retrying 400, 401, or 403 responses: fix the input, credentials, or plan issue first. For application code, log the status and a safe error detail, but do not log the API key or sensitive document contents.
Troubleshoot blank pages, missing styles, and delayed content
- The PDF is blank or incomplete: confirm the source URL can be reached publicly by the rendering service and does not require an interactive login or an inaccessible network. Check the requested page itself before changing PDF settings.
- CSS, images, or fonts are missing: check that the page’s linked stylesheets, fonts, images, and other remote resources are reachable to the renderer. A valid source URL alone does not guarantee all its dependencies can load.
- JavaScript-rendered content is absent: try a small
waitForvalue, within the documented 0–10-second range. Waiting may help with delayed content, but it does not guarantee that every script or third-party resource will finish successfully. - The page uses the wrong layout: test
media: 'screen'againstmedia: 'print'; websites can define distinct screen and print styles. - Headers or footers do not appear: increase the corresponding page margin so the template has room.
- Your saved file is not a PDF: verify the HTTP status before writing, and use
arrayBuffer()for a successful synchronous response. A callback workflow instead sends a later JSON payload with base64 document data.
Security, encryption, and data handling
Html2Pdf.app documents a userPassword option for PDF encryption and says its PDF encryption uses 128-bit AES. It also documents permissions for actions such as printing, modifying, copying, and filling forms. Select these settings according to the document’s actual access requirements; encryption does not replace secure API-key handling.

The provider states that generated PDFs are processed temporarily and are not permanently stored on its servers, while selected request metadata and a supplied source URL may be retained in logs. This is the provider’s own description, not an independent audit. Review its documentation, Privacy Policy, and Data Processing Agreement for details relevant to your use.

Html2Pdf.app’s homepage, accessed in 2026, lists the following figures. Pricing and allowances can change, so confirm current terms with the provider before budgeting production use.

The homepage says each 5 MB chunk of generated document size counts as one credit. These are vendor-published plan and billing figures, not an estimate of what a particular workload will cost; document size and current account terms matter.
