Blog: the dated development record
Open the Blog or archive from the main navigation and look for the newest date, rather than relying on the order in which a search engine displays pages. The archive is where ConcernedApe explains interruptions, design work and his approach to development. Dates matter: an older post can remain accurate about a past decision while no longer describing the current state of the project.
The archive currently includes posts dated December 4, 2024; January 28, 2026; June 25, 2026; and August 30, 2026. Read the complete post when a claim affects your expectations. A headline such as “still here” confirms continued work, but it does not specify a percentage complete, a release window or a list of finished features.
Screenshots: visual evidence, not a feature lock
The Screenshots section is the correct place to see images posted by the developer. Use it to understand the project’s visual direction and the systems ConcernedApe has chosen to show. Do not treat an image as a final specification: his December 4, 2024 update explicitly cautioned that screenshots may change before release.
When a screenshot is reposted elsewhere, compare it with the official version and its date. Cropped images can remove context, and a fan caption can turn a visual suggestion into an unsupported claim about mechanics, platforms or launch timing.
F.A.Q.: stable reference questions

A step-by-step routine for following updates
- Bookmark the official home page. Use hauntedchocolatier.net and enter through its navigation instead of saving an unverified mirror or a social-media profile.
- Open the Blog/archive. Sort your attention by the newest dated post. Record the publication date and read the full text before accepting a summary.
- Separate status from promises. Mark sentences that describe work already done (“I made a vertical slice,” for example) separately from statements about intentions (“the game will eventually be finished”). Neither category is a release date.

How to interpret the development statements
“Still in development” is a meaningful status, but not a schedule
The August 2026 check-in answers the abandonment question: the developer says he is still working on the game. It does not answer how much remains. No official source supplies a completion percentage, a forecast or a date that can be converted into a countdown, so any chart claiming one is an outside estimate.

In the December 4, 2024 update, ConcernedApe wrote, “But if I don’t post for a while, it doesn’t mean I have abandoned the game.” He prefers to work in isolation and post when he has something complete and worthy to show. That approach produces gaps between dated entries. A quiet period is therefore an absence of communication, not evidence of cancellation.
Why previews may be limited
The June 2026 post describes repeated iteration on the chocolate recipe-book interface and explains that unfinished systems are not always shown because they may change. Fewer screenshots can mean the developer is avoiding obsolete details, not that there is no work to report. Read each preview as a snapshot of a moving project.
What “solo” means in the 2024 post
The December 2024 update described ConcernedApe as working solo and coding mostly from scratch in C#. That is a description of his workflow at that time, not a promise that staffing, tools or technology cannot change later. It also helps explain why a single person may alternate between programming, design, art, testing and communication.

Release date, preorders and early access
The official FAQ says ConcernedApe cannot commit to a release date or even an estimate. His December 4, 2024 update adds that Haunted Chocolatier will not use early access, crowdfunding or pre-orders. Together, those statements rule out an official countdown, a paid reservation program and a planned public test sold as early access.
ConcernedApe summarized his position on January 28, 2026: “The bottom line is, I don’t want to give a release date. The game will come out when it’s done.” The practical consequence is simple: do not enter payment details on a page claiming to reserve the game, and do not treat a retailer placeholder, an automatically generated database date or a creator’s prediction as an announcement.
If the official site eventually provides a date or a sales plan, that new dated statement should replace older assumptions. Until then, the responsible wording is “release date not announced.”
Platform claims: keep certainty and intention separate
PC is the only platform the FAQ calls certain. The developer intends to support other major platforms, but intended support is not guaranteed support. A post, video or store listing that names a console should therefore be checked against the latest official wording before you present it as confirmed.

How to judge rumors and third-party coverage
Use five checks whenever a claim comes from outside the official site. The checks are most useful when recorded together rather than applied selectively.

“There has been no post for months. Is the game cancelled?”
Not on the evidence available here. The developer specifically said that a gap in posting does not mean abandonment, and the August 30, 2026 check-in confirms continued progress. Check the Blog archive for a newer entry before drawing a conclusion, but do not convert silence into either cancellation or imminent release.
“A video says the game launches this year.”
Look for a matching dated statement on the official Blog or an updated FAQ entry. If none exists, label the video’s date as speculation. A confident thumbnail cannot override the developer’s stated refusal to provide a release estimate.

Do not pay through it. The December 2024 update says there will be no pre-orders, and the official site has not announced a sales window. Report the page to the marketplace or payment provider if it appears deceptive.

“A screenshot proves a feature is finished.”
It proves only that the developer chose to show that visual at that time. The developer has said screenshots and unfinished systems can change. Describe the image as a work-in-progress preview unless an official caption states that the feature is final.
“The game is just a Stardew Valley expansion.”
The January 28, 2026 update rejects that interpretation. ConcernedApe said the projects use different technology and that Haunted Chocolatier will not be merged into Stardew Valley. Keep the games conceptually separate when summarizing development.
Build a personal update log
A small log makes irregular communication easier to follow and reduces accidental rumor recycling. For each official entry, capture:
- the exact publication date and post title;
- the developer’s direct status statement;
- newly described work, such as the vertical slice or recipe-book interface iteration;
- policies that affect purchasing or access, including the no-preorder and no-early-access position;
- platform wording, marked as certain, intended or unknown;
- links to the official home page and the section where you found the statement;
- your own notes clearly separated from the developer’s words.
When a new post appears, add it rather than rewriting older entries. This preserves the timeline and makes it obvious when a previous intention has been clarified or changed.
What a genuine future announcement would need to establish
A meaningful official announcement should answer more than “the game is still being made.” Look for a dated post or FAQ change that identifies the new fact directly: a release date or window, a confirmed storefront, a platform list, a preorder policy, a multiplayer decision, language availability or a technical milestone. Until the developer states one of those points, leave it in the unknown column.
This standard protects readers from a common escalation in fan coverage: a real statement about progress is repeated, a prediction is attached to it, and the prediction eventually gets remembered as a promise. Keeping the original wording and date prevents that drift.
