Start by copying the current ingest URL from YouTube Live Control Room, then test DNS, outbound TCP 443, and TLS from the same VPS that runs your encoder. For YouTube RTMPS, the client connects to the ingest hostname on port 443; a generic “connection refused” message does not by itself identify whether the problem is the URL, VPS egress policy, route, address family, or encoder.
What “connection refused” tells you—and what it doesn’t
The message is a symptom, not a diagnosis. It does not prove that YouTube is blocking Indian VPS traffic, that IPv6 is broken, or that the stream key is invalid. Work out where the connection fails: DNS lookup, TCP connection, TLS handshake, or the RTMP application/stream startup.

For YouTube RTMPS, Google specifies TLS over port 443 and requires the TLS handshake to use the ingest server’s hostname for SNI. Google’s Developers guidance states: “The connection must be made to port 443 on the ingestion server.” See Delivering Live YouTube Content via RTMPS.

Before changing settings, note the encoder name and version, VPS operating system and region, time of failure, exact error text, and whether the configured endpoint begins with rtmp:// or rtmps://. Record the endpoint format without its secret stream key. Never paste or publish the key in a support ticket or public post.

2. Re-copy YouTube’s current ingest URL
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and go to the stream’s Stream settings.
- Copy the current server URL and confirm which protocol YouTube has supplied. YouTube notes that the ordinary RTMP URL may be shown by default; its RTMPS help page explains how to reveal the RTMPS URL: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
- In the encoder, use the full supplied hostname and path, and select the matching protocol. Do not send cleartext RTMP to an RTMPS endpoint or assume the two settings are interchangeable.
- If using RTMPS, verify that the encoder supports it and uses TLS with the supplied hostname. Do not replace the hostname with a guessed IP address: the hostname is needed for TLS authentication and SNI.
3. Check DNS, outbound TCP 443, and TLS from the VPS
Run diagnostics from the same VPS and runtime environment as the encoder. Check that the configured hostname resolves, that outbound TCP 443 is allowed, and that a TLS handshake to the hostname succeeds. Review all applicable egress controls: the guest operating system firewall, any cloud or VPS network firewall, and the hosting provider’s outbound traffic policy. The exact controls and commands vary by provider and operating system.
A successful generic HTTPS request is not conclusive: it does not prove the YouTube ingest path, encoder’s RTMPS implementation, or route is working. But a failed TCP or TLS connection is useful evidence for a firewall, provider, DNS, or route investigation. For RTMPS, do not open inbound port 1935 merely on the assumption that YouTube needs it; the documented client connection is outbound to port 443.

4. Distinguish a network failure from an encoder or key problem
If DNS, TCP, and TLS work but YouTube does not accept the stream, check that the encoder version is current and that it supports the selected protocol. If the encoder reports a stream startup error, YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends refreshing the stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder with the new key. If the stream starts but is unstable, inspect encoder health and the VPS’s outbound connection quality. YouTube recommends testing the outbound connection and contacting the Internet provider when connectivity problems are found. A working TLS handshake alone does not establish that the live stream has a stable route or sufficient connection quality.

5. Test IPv4 only when your setup makes it relevant
PRISM Live Studio’s desktop support page names India and Indonesia and recommends selecting IPv4 Only, enabling network optimizations, applying the settings, and restarting the app for the issue it documents. The vendor attributes that case to certain IPv6 transition policies and ISP infrastructure changes. This is targeted guidance for relevant PRISM desktop setups—not evidence that IPv6 is generally broken on Indian VPS hosts. See PRISM Live Studio: Failed to connect to the server.
On a VPS, compare IPv4 and IPv6 reachability to the same YouTube hostname only if the VPS and encoder actually use IPv6 and you can select the address family. If IPv4 works and IPv6 fails, give that specific result to your provider; do not infer the cause from location alone.

6. Escalate with useful diagnostics
If TCP 443 or TLS fails
Contact the VPS provider with the failure time, VPS region, destination hostname, resolved addresses, protocol and port, and sanitized DNS/TCP/TLS results. Ask whether outbound RTMPS over TCP 443 or the route to that destination is filtered. Do not include the stream key.

Give the encoder vendor the endpoint format with the secret removed, protocol, encoder version, exact error, and relevant TLS or network diagnostics. If YouTube reports a startup problem, follow its stream-key and encoder troubleshooting steps.

When to consider another VPS
Consider moving hosts only after confirming a provider-side restriction or persistent route fault. Compare India-region availability, outbound RTMPS policy, IPv4/IPv6 controls, support, and network terms. Available evidence does not establish a refusal rate for Indian VPS hosts or identify a particular provider as the cause, so there is no basis here to name or endorse a host.
