Start by checking the keyboard’s power and identifying whether it connects through Bluetooth or a USB receiver. For a receiver, try a different direct USB port and move it away from USB 3.0 devices; for Bluetooth, reduce distance and obstructions and temporarily disconnect other Bluetooth devices. If the problem remains, follow the maker’s re-pairing steps and test the keyboard on another computer.
First, identify the symptom and connection type
Delayed typing, intermittent dropouts, and missed characters can have different causes. Low batteries, a lost pairing, poor receiver placement, wireless interference, computer settings, or failing hardware are all possibilities; a delay alone does not prove interference.

Check whether the keyboard uses Bluetooth or a USB receiver (sometimes called a dongle). Receiver-placement advice applies only to receiver-based models. Use the keyboard maker’s instructions for its exact model, since pairing and reset procedures differ.

- Make sure the keyboard is switched on.
- For a model with replaceable batteries, check their orientation and replace them if they may be depleted. For a rechargeable model, charge it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Low power is one possible cause, not a diagnosis by itself. Do not assume a particular battery size without checking the keyboard model.

If the keyboard uses a USB receiver
Try a direct, nearby USB port
- Unplug the receiver from any hub or KVM and connect it directly to a working computer port, unless the keyboard maker specifies otherwise.
- Try another port. On a desktop computer, a front port may give the signal a clearer path than a port behind the case.
- Move the keyboard closer to the receiver and keep the receiver away from other electrical wireless devices.
Separate the receiver from USB 3.0 hardware
Logitech says a USB 3.0 peripheral can interfere with a nearby 2.4 GHz USB wireless device, causing delayed input, missing characters, or shorter operating range. Move the receiver away from the USB 3.0 device; if available, try a USB 2.0 port on the other side of the computer. Apple also lists USB 3 or Thunderbolt devices among possible sources of wireless interference in its wireless interference guidance.
If changing ports is not enough, a standard USB extension cable can position the receiver farther from nearby USB 3.0 hardware. Check that its connector fits the receiver and computer. Try the free port and placement changes first.

If the keyboard connects over Bluetooth
Reduce distance and obstructions
Bring the keyboard and computer closer together and remove metal objects or other obstructions from the signal path. Apple notes that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth both use the 2.4 GHz band, although many Wi-Fi devices can also use 5 GHz. Its support guidance identifies power cables, microwave ovens, fluorescent lights, wireless video cameras, and cordless phones as potential nearby sources of interference.
Temporarily disconnect other Bluetooth devices
Turn off or disconnect other connected Bluetooth devices briefly to see whether the keyboard becomes more reliable. This is a diagnostic step, not proof that another device is the cause. Apple says wireless interference can make Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices disconnect or perform poorly, and recommends steps to reduce its effects in its guidance published April 23, 2025.

Reconnect, update, and test on another computer
- Re-pair or reset the keyboard. Follow the exact steps for the keyboard model. Bluetooth pairing instructions do not apply to every receiver-based model, and receiver pairing procedures vary too.
- Check supported updates. Install operating-system or keyboard firmware updates offered for your device. Use the manufacturer’s current support page for model-specific software and instructions; utility availability can change.
- Test another computer. If the keyboard works on another computer, investigate the original computer’s USB, Bluetooth, power-management, or software settings. Logitech lists Windows USB power settings and background updates as possible factors; Microsoft recommends updates and cross-PC testing for its Surface accessories. If the keyboard also fails on another computer, the keyboard, receiver, batteries, or another hardware component may be at fault.
Use the symptom to choose your next check
- Typing is consistently delayed: check power first, then receiver distance and nearby USB 3.0 hardware if it uses a receiver. For Bluetooth, reduce distance and test with other Bluetooth devices disconnected.
- Characters are sometimes missing or the connection drops: check for obstructions and interference, then reconnect the keyboard using its model-specific steps.
- Only this computer has the problem: test another port or connection path as appropriate, check supported updates and relevant computer settings, and compare with another computer.
- The issue follows the keyboard to another computer: suspect the keyboard, receiver, power source, or another hardware fault rather than the original computer alone.
These checks help narrow down common causes, but they cannot confirm a specific fault without the keyboard model, operating system, connection type, and symptom details.
