Start by charging the mouse and moving its receiver to a direct USB port close to the mouse. If that does not help, test another port, clean the sensor, try a different surface, then re-pair the mouse or test it on another computer. These checks help separate a weak or interfered-with wireless link from a tracking, USB, or host-computer problem.
1. Charge the mouse and reposition its receiver
A low battery can contribute to erratic movement or connection problems. Fully charge a rechargeable mouse or replace its batteries before changing settings.

Plug the receiver directly into a working USB port if possible. If the computer case blocks or sits far from the mouse, use a standard USB extension cable to bring the receiver closer. Keep it away from USB 3.0 cables and devices, wireless routers, and other nearby 2.4 GHz equipment. Temporarily switching off nearby wireless devices can help reveal whether interference is involved.
For its gaming mice, Logitech recommends keeping the mouse and receiver within 20 cm of each other and at least 2 meters from wireless routers and other 2.4 GHz devices. These are Logitech’s recommendations, not universal guarantees; follow the guidance for your exact model. Logitech’s wireless connection guidance explains receiver placement.

- The durable, compact design with built-in nano receiver storage makes G305 not just a great portable desktop mouse, but also a great laptop travel companion, use with a gaming laptop and play anywhere
2. Check the USB port and connection path
A receiver may behave poorly because of its port, a hub, or nearby USB 3.0 equipment. USB 3.0 equipment can interfere with some 2.4 GHz receivers, potentially causing delayed input or reducing wireless operating distance. USB-IF’s technical paper on USB 3.0 radio-frequency interference describes the issue.
- Disconnect the receiver from any hub or KVM switch and connect it directly to the computer.
- Try a different USB port. If the receiver is beside USB 3.0 equipment, test a USB 2.0 port or move it farther away.
- If necessary, use an extension cable to position the receiver in open space near the mouse.
Change one thing at a time and test the pointer after each change. This makes it easier to identify whether the port or receiver position was responsible.

3. Determine whether the sensor or surface is the problem
If the pointer skips or moves erratically while the mouse still appears connected, investigate tracking rather than assuming the radio link is at fault.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Turn the mouse off and gently clean dust or debris from the sensor lens.
- Try plain white paper or another known-good mouse surface. A reflective, transparent, patterned, or unsuitable surface can interfere with tracking.
- If the problem occurs only on one surface, check the manufacturer’s instructions for surface tuning or calibration supported by your model.
Logitech’s mouse troubleshooting guidance lists sensor optics, surface or tracking-height tuning, polling or firmware, battery, and connection or interference among possible causes.

4. Re-pair the mouse only with model-specific instructions
If the link remains unreliable after the power, placement, USB, and tracking checks, use the pairing procedure for the exact mouse and receiver. Pairing utilities and receiver support vary by model. Do not assume that a receiver from another mouse is compatible, even if it fits the same USB port.
Logitech’s gaming mouse connection guidance includes re-pairing, trying another USB port, charging the mouse, and testing it on another computer as troubleshooting steps.

5. Check supported software and firmware
Use only the manufacturer’s currently supported software and instructions for your model to check firmware or surface-tuning options. Do not install an old utility simply because an older troubleshooting page mentions it: software support differs by device, and some legacy utilities are no longer supported. Logitech’s connection guidance and mouse troubleshooting page direct users to supported options where applicable.
6. Test the mouse on another computer
Connect the receiver to another computer and test the mouse there. If it works normally, the original computer’s USB port, software, or configuration is a more likely source of the problem. If the same symptoms follow the mouse, focus on the mouse, receiver, battery, pairing, or its compatibility with the tested setup. Logitech also recommends cross-computer testing in its gaming connection guidance.

When to consider replacement or support
If charging, receiver relocation, port changes, sensor cleaning, supported re-pairing, and a second-computer test do not resolve the issue, consult the manufacturer’s support page for the exact model. A replacement receiver is not a universal fix: availability and compatibility depend on the mouse, so confirm the supported receiver before ordering one.
These troubleshooting steps are based on manufacturer help guidance, primarily Logitech’s; instructions can vary by model and software version. No universal latency reduction or performance improvement is established for these changes.
