How to Fix Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Mobile Data Problems After a Pixel Update

Work through safe checks first, then troubleshoot Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or cellular service separately. Learn what network resets erase and when to contact support.

If Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or mobile data stopped working after a Pixel update, first restart the phone and identify whether the fault affects one network or accessory, or every connection of that type. Then follow the steps for the affected connection. The timing may be related, but it does not by itself prove that the update caused the problem.

Start with checks that apply to any connection

  1. Restart the Pixel. This is a low-risk first step. Downloaded Pixel updates become active after the phone restarts, according to Google’s Android update guidance.
  2. Check for an available system update. Open Settings and look for a system update; labels and availability can vary by Android version. Note the Pixel model and Android version/build so you can give support precise details. Update timing can vary by device and carrier.
  3. Pin down the scope. Test another Wi-Fi network, another device on the same Wi-Fi, or a second Bluetooth accessory when possible. For cellular service, note whether only mobile data fails or whether calls and texts are affected too. These comparisons help distinguish a phone issue from a router, accessory, or carrier issue.
  4. Try safe mode if the issue seems app-related. Google’s general Pixel troubleshooting guidance includes safe mode. If Wi-Fi works in safe mode but fails in normal mode, a downloaded app is a likely cause; remove recently installed apps one at a time and retest. See Google’s Pixel troubleshooting steps for the applicable instructions.

Fix Wi-Fi that will not connect

When one saved network fails

  1. Open Settings, go to the saved Wi-Fi network, choose Forget, then select the network again and enter its password. Menu wording can vary by Android version.
  2. Check that date and time are set automatically. Some public Wi-Fi networks also require you to open a sign-in page after connecting.
  3. If other devices connect to the same network but the Pixel does not, continue with the phone-specific steps in Google’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide.

When the same Wi-Fi fails on other devices

Focus on the network rather than assuming the Pixel is at fault. If you administer the network, restart the router and modem, then check with the internet provider for an outage. On a managed work, school, hotel, or public network, ask the administrator whether access controls or a sign-in requirement are blocking the connection.

When basic Wi-Fi steps do not work

Use Settings → System → Reset options → Reset Bluetooth & Wi-Fi if that option is available on your software version. This removes saved Wi-Fi connections and Bluetooth pairings, so be ready to reconnect devices. Google’s general Pixel help page also warns: “Tip: This will clear saved networks and pairings.”

Fix Bluetooth that will not connect

  1. Turn Bluetooth off and on, then restart both the Pixel and the accessory.
  2. Confirm the accessory is in pairing mode and that it is paired with the Pixel. If it is already listed, disconnect and reconnect it.
  3. For a car or audio device, open the Bluetooth device settings and check that the relevant Media audio and Phone audio options are enabled.
  4. If the connection still fails, remove or forget the accessory on the phone, then pair it again using the accessory maker’s instructions.

Pixel 6 and later, including Pixel Fold, offer Bluetooth diagnostics. If you choose to share diagnostics, Google says they may include device or account identifiers, software version, accessory details, and test results; optional bug reports can contain more sensitive interaction metadata. Review the sharing details before sending. See Google’s Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance.

Fix mobile data that is not working

  1. Check that the SIM or eSIM is present and active, and that mobile network settings are enabled. The available controls depend on the Pixel’s software version and carrier.
  2. If the phone has signal but no data, check whether calls or texts work and whether the problem occurs in more than one location. That can help distinguish a local coverage problem from an account or device setting.
  3. After simpler checks, you can use Settings → System → Reset options → Reset mobile network settings, if available. Resetting network settings can remove saved network information; review the on-screen prompt before confirming.
  4. If service remains unavailable, contact the carrier and ask about a local outage, account or plan changes, and whether the device and service are supported where you are using them.

Google’s separate 5G troubleshooting advice is limited to certain Pixel models and carriers in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden; it should not be treated as a global 5G fix. See Google’s Pixel mobile-network guide and its mobile-connectivity troubleshooting page.

Choose the next step without losing data unnecessarily

Step What it can help isolate or change What to know first
Restart or test another network/accessory Checks whether the problem is temporary or limited to one connection. Does not erase saved network information.
Forget and re-add a Wi-Fi network or Bluetooth accessory Refreshes the saved connection for that network or accessory. You will need the Wi-Fi password or accessory pairing process.
Reset Wi-Fi/Bluetooth or mobile network settings Clears network configuration that may be preventing reconnection. Saved networks and pairings may be removed; check the confirmation screen.
Factory reset Returns the phone to its setup state. Erases phone data. Back up first, and treat this as a last resort—not a guaranteed fix.

When to contact support

If the problem persists across networks or accessories after the relevant steps, contact Google Pixel support. For a problem limited to one connection, contact the party best placed to investigate it: the carrier for cellular service, the ISP or router maker for home Wi-Fi, or the network administrator for managed Wi-Fi. A factory reset should come only after less destructive checks and a backup; Google’s troubleshooting pages do not promise that it will fix a fault that began after an update.
