To restore your previous kit, open the vendor and select Re-buy Loadout in the bottom-left before purchasing anything else. If a weapon will not equip, check three separate requirements—role level, one-time unlock fee, and the item’s per-purchase price. Vault equipment is selected through the matching vendor category with V (or the Vault toggle), but it still obeys the normal level requirement. Scroll-wheel failures and emplacements that refuse to reload are usually local input-configuration problems; the available fixes come from community reports and should be treated as reversible troubleshooting, not guaranteed official repairs.
How loadout saving works in Wardogs right now
The game’s current vendor flow is based on recovering your most recent kit rather than choosing from a permanent list of named presets. When you are at a vendor, the practical save-and-restore function is Re-buy Loadout. It displays the items from your previous kit and the total cost, then lets you remove individual items before confirming the purchase.

Restore your previous kit
- Enter the vendor interface.
- Before buying another item, select Re-buy Loadout in the bottom-left of the screen.
- Review the returned list and total cost.
- Remove anything you do not want to carry this time.
- Confirm the purchase only after checking that your available match cash covers the remaining total.
This is a recovery of the immediately previous kit, not a library in which you can store several named combinations. The control can disappear after you make an individual purchase, so opening the vendor and buying one item first can prevent the restore option from appearing for that visit.

Why the Re-buy Loadout button disappeared
The disappearance is normally tied to purchase order, not to a hidden unlock level. Use the recovery control before making any separate purchase. If you have already bought an item and the control is gone, the current interface does not provide a documented way to reconstruct that earlier kit with one click; you must select the remaining equipment manually for that visit.

Do not confuse the previous-kit recovery control with the permanent presets discussed for the game’s future meta-progression. Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer described the absence of loadouts as intentional during testing: Internally, we deliberately never gave the team loadouts.
He said future loadouts are intended to be unlocked with in-game cash through the meta game, creating a smoother experience after players have earned that currency. No introduction date has been confirmed, so a patch, season, or menu change should not be assumed until the developer announces one.
Why a weapon stays locked after you level up
Wardogs separates equipment access into three gates. Reaching the role level removes only the level gate; it does not automatically pay the unlock charge or the cost of equipping the item in a match.

Cash cannot bypass a role-level gate. Conversely, reaching the required level does not make most equipment free. Default-unlocked equipment is the exception: it has no additional unlock step because it is available from the start, although normal purchase rules can still apply where the interface shows a price.

Use this order when an item will not equip
- Confirm that the item belongs to the role whose level you increased. Leveling one role does not open equipment assigned to another.
- Compare your current role level with the exact requirement shown on the item.
- If an unlock fee is displayed, complete that one-time payment.
- Check your remaining match cash and pay the item’s per-purchase price.
- If the item is stored in the Vault, switch to the matching vendor category and enable the Vault view before trying again.
A useful diagnostic example is a weapon that shows a level requirement you have met but still presents an unlock button. That is a paid unlock gate, not a leveling bug. If the item is unlocked but the purchase control remains unavailable, the likely issue is insufficient match cash or a mismatch between the item and the role you leveled.
Season 2 role-level milestones
The published Season 2 milestones below are cumulative XP totals at the Season 2 launch. They identify level thresholds; they do not promise a fixed number of matches, a particular XP rate, or the rewards currently granted by every server.

Use the item’s own displayed requirement as the authority for a specific unlock. The milestone table is a progression reference, not evidence that every item unlocks at levels 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50.

How to equip a Vault item
The Vault stores account-level items obtained outside a match. A stored item does not have to be bought again at its normal purchase price, but storage does not waive its role-level requirement.

- Press V, or turn on the Vault toggle in that category.
- Select the stored item from the Vault view.
- Verify that your role meets the item’s normal level requirement.
- Equip it through the vendor. The stored item is used without the normal purchase price once the level gate is satisfied.
If the item does not appear, first check the category. A Vault item is not necessarily shown in the default shop list. Then verify the level requirement; seeing the item in account storage does not mean it is available to every role or level.
Fixing scroll-wheel zoom and weapon-swap problems
A Steam community report links a scroll-wheel zoom or weapon-swap failure to damaged or malformed local input settings. This is an individual community workaround rather than an official support guarantee, so copy the files before changing them.

Reset the two reported input files
- Exit Wardogs completely.
- Make a backup copy of
%LOCALAPPDATA%WardogsSavedConfigWindowsClientGameUserSettings.ini. - Make a backup copy of
%LOCALAPPDATA%WardogsSavedSaveGamesEnhancedInputUserSettings.sav. - Delete the original copies from those locations.
- Start the game and test zooming and weapon switching with the default wheel behavior.
- If the problem remains, restart once more and use Steam’s game-file verification tool.
Test the default bindings before remapping the wheel. The same report warns that assigning the wheel to another action can reproduce the failure, so changing controls immediately after the reset makes it harder to tell whether the local configuration was repaired.

A separate Steam report attributes non-reloading emplacements to a malformed custom reload binding. The report proposes either removing the WindowsClient configuration files and avoiding a reload rebind, or editing the reload entry so it contains a concrete key. Because this is anecdotal, keep a backup and re-test after game updates.
Lower-risk reset approach
- Close the game and copy the WindowsClient configuration files to a safe folder.
- Remove the affected local configuration files.
- Launch Wardogs and leave the reload action at its default binding.
- Deploy a built weapon, mortar, or CIWS and test a reload before customizing any other input.
Editing the reload entry
If you are comfortable editing configuration text, the report gives this form as an example of a concrete reload key:

Resetting the key through the in-game menu may leave the malformed entry behind, according to the report, so a menu reset alone is not proof that the file was repaired. A configuration edit can also affect unrelated custom controls; test movement, weapon selection, zoom, and reload after starting the game.
Choose the remedy by symptom

A safe troubleshooting sequence
When several symptoms appear together, isolate account progression from local controls instead of changing everything at once.
- Record the role, item name, displayed level requirement, unlock fee, and purchase price.
- Resolve the vendor state first: if you need the previous kit, use Re-buy Loadout before buying anything else.
- For a locked item, verify role ownership and level, then handle the unlock fee and available match cash in that order.
- For a Vault item, switch to the correct category and activate the Vault view before deciding it is missing.
- Only after progression and vendor checks pass, investigate input symptoms.
- Back up local files before deleting or editing them, test with default controls, and verify game files if the reset does not help.
- After any fix, test one action at a time: ordinary weapon swap, wheel zoom, standard reload, then an emplacement reload.
This sequence prevents a local keybinding reset from being mistaken for an unlock fix, and prevents spending match cash while trying to diagnose a role-level gate.

- Buying first, restoring later: the Re-buy Loadout control may disappear after an individual purchase.
- Assuming level equals ownership: most items still need the one-time unlock payment.
- Assuming ownership equals free equipment: the per-purchase price is separate from the unlock fee.
- Checking the wrong role: XP on one role does not satisfy another role’s requirement.
- Looking only in the standard shop list: Vault inventory requires the matching category and Vault toggle.
- Expecting Vault storage to bypass progression: stored items retain their normal level requirement.
- Rebinding before testing defaults: a custom wheel or reload binding can recreate the local input problem.
- Editing without a backup: configuration troubleshooting is reversible only if you preserve the original files.
What to expect from future loadout presets
Permanent presets are planned as a meta-game feature funded with earned in-game cash, according to Bulkhead’s explanation, but no launch timing has been confirmed. Until that feature is actually added, treat the vendor’s Re-buy function as a one-kit recovery tool rather than a saved collection of builds.
