What the Vienna Expansion adds
The Vienna Expansion for City Transport Simulator 2026 released on October 13, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The official announcement describes a Vienna map, three real-world routes, associated vehicles and other content, plus more than 1,000 realistically recreated buildings. On Steam, the expansion is listed as downloadable content for the game, with ViewApp identified as developer and publisher.

The troubleshooting paths below are for the Steam PC edition. The release announcement covers consoles, but the cited menu names—such as Properties > DLC and Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files—exist in Steam’s desktop client, not in the PlayStation or Xbox interfaces.
Identify exactly where the failure occurs
Do not begin by reinstalling the entire game. First match the symptom to the stage that is failing. This prevents an entitlement problem from being treated as a file problem, and avoids deleting a working installation when Steam’s cache or library permissions are the actual cause.

1. Confirm ownership and installation in Steam
Steam’s DLC management page is the authoritative first check for the account’s entitlement and local installation state. Valve describes this menu as the place to see which downloadable content you have for a game and whether it has been installed.
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click City Transport Simulator 2026 and choose Properties.
- Open the DLC tab.
- Look for Vienna Expansion and read its installed or not-installed state.
If Vienna is missing from the DLC list
A missing entry is not normally fixed by verifying files. Check that Steam is signed in to the account that made the purchase, and confirm that the transaction finished rather than remaining pending, being refunded, or failing at checkout. If the game was acquired through a family library or another account, the entitlement may belong to the purchasing account instead. Resolve that account or store issue before attempting download repairs.
If Vienna is listed but not installed
Make sure the DLC is enabled in the DLC tab, then open Steam’s Download Manager and start or resume the queued item. Keep the game closed while Steam applies the add-on. If the item immediately pauses or reports an error, continue with the client and library repairs below rather than repeatedly clicking install.
2. Restart Steam and the computer
Steam’s installation troubleshooting sequence starts with a restart because a client process, pending update, or temporary lock can prevent a new depot from being assigned correctly. Exit Steam from the Steam menu, confirm it is no longer running, and open it again. If the DLC still does not begin, restart the computer and retry the download. This does not remove installed games or DLC; it refreshes the client session and releases file handles that may be held by another process.

3. Clear Steam’s download cache
A damaged or stale download configuration can leave an item stuck at a percentage, repeatedly retrying, or showing an installation error even when the account owns the DLC. Valve says that clearing the cache flushes locally cached configuration data and obtains it again from Steam’s servers.
- Open Steam > Settings.
- Select Downloads.
- Choose Clear Cache.
- Complete Steam’s confirmation and sign in again if prompted.
- Open the Library and retry Vienna from the Download Manager.
Clearing the cache is not the same as uninstalling the game or deleting the Vienna files. It resets local download data, so you may need to sign in again and reselect the pending download. If the queue remains stalled, note the exact status and proceed to the library-folder check.
4. Repair the Steam library folder
Steam must be able to write to the library that contains City Transport Simulator 2026. A permission change, interrupted disk operation, or read-only state can block both the Vienna download and ordinary game updates. Valve’s guidance specifically recommends repairing the library folder when installation or update operations fail because the folder is not writable.

- Open Steam > Settings.
- Select Storage.
- Choose the library containing City Transport Simulator 2026.
- Open that library’s options menu.
- Select Repair Folder and allow Steam to finish.
- Return to the Download Manager and retry the Vienna item.
Do not interrupt the repair. If Steam cannot repair the folder, check whether the drive is connected, mounted, and writable by your operating-system account. A nearly full drive can also present as a write failure, so check available space before repeating the installation.

5. Retry from Download Manager and test the download region
Open Steam’s Download Manager to see whether Vienna is paused, scheduled behind another update, or failing with a specific message. Resume it there rather than relying only on the game’s Library page. Temporarily changing the content-server region can help when the assigned regional server is slow, overloaded, or failing.
- Open Steam > Settings > Downloads.
- Record your current Download Region.
- Select a different nearby region.
- Save the setting, open Download Manager, and retry the Vienna download.
A region change is a diagnostic step, not a guarantee of faster service. If the new region makes no difference, restore the original region after testing. A queue that advances after the change points to a content-server issue; a queue that fails immediately in multiple regions suggests local cache, permissions, storage, or account state instead.
6. Verify the game files
Use file verification when Steam says the DLC is installed but the Vienna map or related content is absent, or when an update stopped partway through. Steam compares the local installation with the expected files and replaces files that are missing or damaged. Valve notes that the check can take several minutes.
- In Steam Library, right-click City Transport Simulator 2026.
- Choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to complete, then restart the game and check the Vienna content.
A message that one or more files failed to validate does not automatically mean the repair failed. Steam explains that local configuration files are not replaced, so those files can be reported as different even when the game installation is healthy. Let Steam reacquire any content it identifies, then check the DLC tab and launch the game again.

What verification can and cannot fix
- It can restore missing or corrupted files in the game’s installation.
- It can resolve a DLC that is marked installed but has incomplete local content.
- It cannot grant ownership to an account that did not purchase the expansion.
- It cannot repair a Steam account, payment, or authentication error.
- It does not replace every local configuration file, so a validation notice is not proof that Vienna is unusable.
7. Check storage and try another Steam library
Installation needs enough free space for the download and for Steam’s temporary unpacking and update process. Check the free capacity of the library drive, not just the drive where Windows or another game is installed. Also confirm that the drive remains connected and writable.
If the same installation error continues after repairing the folder, Steam recommends trying another library or drive. In Steam > Settings > Storage, add or select a library on a drive with adequate free space, then choose the library-management option for the game and move the base game before retrying the DLC, where Steam offers that operation. If moving the game is not available for the particular error, install the DLC to the existing library only after confirming that the folder is writable.
An alternate library is useful as a controlled test: success on another drive points to the original library or disk, while failure on both drives points back to Steam’s client state, account entitlement, network path, or the game itself.

8. Recheck the installation in a clean sequence
After a repair, check the state in a fixed order so that a stale queue does not look like a game bug.
- Open Properties > DLC and confirm that Vienna is still listed and enabled.
- Open Download Manager and confirm that no Vienna task is paused or reporting an error.
- Run Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files if the map or content is still absent.
- Launch the game only after Steam reports that downloads and verification are complete.
- Check the map or route-selection screens for Vienna and test the affected content.
If the DLC appears in the tab, the queue is clear, verification completes, and the game still shows no Vienna content, stop repeating the same Steam operations. At that point the problem is more likely a post-launch game fault or a product-specific issue that requires support logs and exact reproduction details.
9. Decide whether Steam or the developer should handle the issue
Contact Steam for account and client problems
Keep the issue with Steam when the error concerns payment, ownership, authentication, a missing DLC entitlement, the Steam client, or a download that never reaches the game because of the store or client. The DLC tab, transaction status, Download Manager message, and account used for the purchase are the relevant evidence.
Contact ViewApp for faults after the game loads
Steam directs players to the game’s developer or publisher for errors and unexpected behavior that are not related to Steam authentication or CD keys after the game has loaded. ViewApp is identified as the developer and publisher of City Transport Simulator 2026.
In Steam’s Library support flow, choose Gameplay or technical issue, then I am having another problem, and finally Contact Game Support. This route is appropriate for a Vienna map that remains missing after a successful installation, crashes when a Vienna route loads, broken vehicles or buildings, and other faults that begin inside the game rather than in Steam.
Include evidence that shortens the support exchange
- The exact error text, copied rather than paraphrased.
- Your platform: Steam on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S.
- The Steam account and store region involved, without sending a password or payment details.
- Whether Vienna Expansion appears in Properties > DLC and whether it is marked installed.
- The download percentage, queue status, and any Download Manager code.
- Whether you cleared the cache, repaired the library folder, changed region, and checked another drive.
- The final result of file verification, including whether Steam reacquired files.
- The exact point at which the game fails: before launch, at the menu, while loading Vienna, or during a route.
These details separate an entitlement case from a file-integrity case and give the developer a reproducible post-launch symptom instead of a general report that the expansion “does not work.”
Console players: use the platform’s add-on controls
The Vienna Expansion release includes PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but the Steam instructions in this article are not available on those consoles. Confirm that the console profile that bought the expansion is the one currently signed in, check the console’s game-management screen for the add-on, and allow the system to finish any pending game update. If the add-on is shown as installed but Vienna is absent in-game, use the platform’s own repair or reinstall option for the game and then contact the game’s developer support with the console model, account region, exact error, and point of failure.
Do not apply a Steam cache-clearing step to a console account, and do not assume that a Steam DLC entitlement transfers automatically between platforms. The release announcement confirms availability on all three platform families, but each storefront manages ownership and installation separately.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Rebuying the DLC: First check the Steam account and DLC tab. A second purchase does not fix a client cache or library-permission problem.
- Verifying before checking ownership: File verification cannot add a missing entitlement.
- Changing several settings at once: Change one variable, retry, and record the result so you know whether the cache, folder, region, or drive made a difference.
- Deleting local files manually: Manual deletion can create a larger installation problem and is unnecessary for the documented Steam sequence.
- Reporting only “installed but missing”: State whether verification completed and identify the exact menu or route where Vienna fails to load.
- Using Steam support for an in-game-only fault: Once the game has loaded and the problem is gameplay behavior, use the third-party developer support path.
Quick decision checklist
- Vienna absent from Properties > DLC: verify the purchasing account and completed transaction.
- Vienna listed but not downloading: restart Steam and the computer, clear the download cache, repair the library folder, and retry from Download Manager.
- Download repeatedly errors: test another download region, confirm free space and write access, and try another Steam library.
- DLC marked installed but content missing: run Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files, then relaunch.
- Failure begins after the game loads: use Steam’s Gameplay or technical issue > I am having another problem > Contact Game Support route and include the evidence listed above.
- PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S: use the console’s own add-on management and support channels rather than Steam menu paths.
