If you mean Withermoore’s Soul Jar in Divinity: Original Sin II, first verify that you found the right jar: it is in the northwest part of the Ancient Passage, marked “Here lies Withermoore the Supplicant.” Destroying it frees Withermoore, but player reports say the journal entry may remain open; an open entry alone does not prove the quest is broken. If you have reached Braccus Rex’s tower, try the source gate there as a possible later step, not a guaranteed fix.

Remove the spear pinning him
If the quest has not started, find Withermoore in the Forgotten Cell and remove the spear holding him in place. The guide lists three ways:

- Break the spear. This frees him, but you will not recover the weapon.
Find the passage from the Fort Joy courtyard
Go to the statue or shrine in the Fort Joy courtyard and look for the hatch beyond it. Continue through the prison route. A Wits check reveals a lever near the altar; using it opens the hatch leading to the Ancient Passage. Follow these landmarks rather than relying on coordinates, which may be presented differently across platforms or interface settings.
Identify the correct soul jar
The Ancient Passage contains five similar-looking jars. Withermoore’s is the northwest jar, bearing the plaque “Here lies Withermoore the Supplicant.” Check the inscription before acting: other jars can trigger traps or guardian fights.

If the journal entry remains open
A Larian forum thread titled “Withermoore’s Soul Jar quest does not end?” records players reporting that the entry stayed open after destroying the jar. Replies disagree about whether this means a bug or an unfinished quest. - Read the journal objective to see what it records as completed or still outstanding.

An old Early Access report also described the objective failing to complete, but it does not establish that the same behavior occurs in current versions. The available evidence does not confirm the present patch status on PC or consoles. If the entry is still blocked after these checks, platform, edition, and game version matter; there is no verified universal workaround to recommend.
