The fixes are different. For screen glasses, a USB-C port alone does not guarantee video output; check whether the phone supports DisplayPort Alt Mode (DP Alt Mode).
Start by identifying the connection type
Camera-and-audio glasses pair with a phone through a companion app and Bluetooth. Display glasses connect to a phone or another host to receive video, usually over a video-capable USB-C connection. A pairing failure points toward the app, Bluetooth, or setup; a blank display points toward the host’s video output, cable, adapter path, or app behavior.

- App/Bluetooth glasses: The glasses do not appear in the companion app or fail to pair with the phone.
- Display glasses: The glasses power on but do not show the phone screen, show no startup logo, or display a video-output warning.
For product-specific steps, identify the exact glasses and phone models. Controls, app labels, and supported connection routes vary by model and generation.
If app-based glasses will not pair
Check power, Bluetooth, and the companion app
For Ray-Ban Meta glasses, charge and switch on the frames, enable Bluetooth on the phone, and open the Meta AI app. Sign in, then follow the in-app setup flow. These steps are specific to Ray-Ban Meta; other brands may use different apps and controls. Ray-Ban Meta FAQ

Put Ray-Ban Meta glasses in pairing mode
Follow the instructions for your model. Ray-Ban’s FAQ describes folding both arms and holding the capture button for 12 seconds, until the frame LED blinks blue. First-time setup may instead use the case’s pairing process; follow the route shown in the app and the instructions for your glasses.
Clear a stuck pairing and try again
- Close and reopen the Meta AI app.
- Power-cycle the glasses and phone.
- Toggle Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the phone.
- Remove the glasses from the Meta AI app and the phone’s Bluetooth list.
- Start pairing again in the Meta AI app.
If a normal restart does not resolve the issue, Ray-Ban’s FAQ describes a force-restart procedure that does not delete captures or require pairing again. Do not substitute a factory reset: Ray-Ban warns that a factory reset deletes captures and requires pairing again. Use the FAQ’s current instructions for the relevant procedure.

If display glasses will not show the phone screen
Verify that the phone can output video
Check the specifications for the exact phone model for USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode, also described as DP Alt Mode or USB-C DP video output. A USB-C-shaped connector may support charging or data without supporting video, so the port shape by itself is not proof of compatibility. Check the glasses, cable, and connection path
- Confirm that the glasses support a direct display connection from your phone. Compatibility is model-specific.
- Unplug and firmly reseat the cable at both ends.
- Use the glasses’ included data cable or a known full-featured video cable. Charge-only or data-only cables cannot carry the video signal needed for display.
- If you use a dock or HDMI/DisplayPort adapter, confirm that the specific glasses and host support that route. Match the adapter to the host’s output and the glasses’ required input; a generic hub cannot add video output to a phone that lacks it.

Use the startup screen to narrow down the fault
When you connect the glasses, check whether their startup or logo screen appears. If it never appears, inspect and reseat the physical connection, check the cable, and—if available—test the glasses with another host known to support DP video. If the logo appears but is followed by a reconnect message or video-output warning, the glasses are on, but the DP signal has not been detected successfully. Check whether only one app goes black
If the connection otherwise works but a particular app shows a black screen, check whether that app allows output to an external display. The symptom may be caused by the app’s output behavior rather than a glasses pairing or cable fault. XREAL black-screen guide

When to contact the manufacturer
Contact the maker if Ray-Ban Meta glasses still will not pair after the restart and unpair/re-pair steps, or if display glasses continue to show no signal on a host confirmed to support the required video output. Include the exact glasses and phone models, the connection method, and what appears on the glasses—no logo, a warning, or a black screen in one app. Those details help separate setup, compatibility, cable, and app issues.
