Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Roku’s “Not enough memory,” “Can’t run app,” and “Insufficient memory” messages can point to low device storage or an internet connection problem. Try a restart first, then check storage and your connection based on how your Roku is connected. Roku’s troubleshooting guide, last updated September 6, 2026, covers both possibilities.
1. Unplug the Roku and restart it
Disconnect the Roku device’s power cord, wait at least 10 seconds, and reconnect it. Roku describes this as its least invasive reset method; it does not affect your settings.

2. Restart from Settings
If the error remains, use the system restart option:
- Press Home on the remote.
- Go to Settings > System > Power > System restart.
- Select System restart.
If there is no Power submenu, skip this method and try another step. On a Roku TV, pressing the remote’s power button or the TV’s physical power button is not the same as a system restart.

4. Check your Wi-Fi connection
Roku lists a weak wireless signal as one possible contributor to the error. If your Roku uses Wi-Fi, follow Roku’s wireless-connection troubleshooting instructions. The error message alone does not establish that Wi-Fi is the cause.

5. Check whether your internet service is working
Roku also identifies an internet-provider connection issue as a possible cause. Check whether other devices can access the internet on the same connection. If they cannot, address the connection or contact your provider; if they can, continue troubleshooting the Roku’s connection.

Could a microSD card help?
Roku says a microSD card can expand memory for installing apps if your Roku streaming device has a microSD slot. This is a storage option, not a fix for a network problem. Roku’s error guide does not list compatible models or card specifications, so check the exact device model and compatibility before buying a card.

Which step should you try first?
- Start with a restart if you want to try a device-side step that does not change settings.
- Remove an unused app if you suspect the device needs more storage to store or install apps.
- Follow the connection branch that matches your setup: Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Check whether your internet service is working, too.
- Consider a microSD card only if your streaming device has a compatible slot and the issue is storage.
Roku does not publish success rates for these actions, so there is no evidence-based way to rank them by likelihood of fixing the error. The message may have more than one possible cause; use the steps to distinguish a device-storage problem from a connection problem.
