Apple Intelligence is opening more routes to product discovery: shoppers can start with a camera image, something on their screen, a natural-language description, or a business lookup. For ecommerce brands, the clearest actionable step is to make an iOS app’s catalog and actions understandable through Apple’s documented App Intents and Spotlight integrations. These features create opportunities to be found; Apple does not promise that any particular optimization improves ranking, traffic, or sales.
Which Apple discovery surfaces matter to ecommerce?
Apple’s features create several distinct paths from a shopper’s intent to a product, app, business, or notification. They are not interchangeable, and Apple has not published comparable performance metrics for them.

| Starting point | What Apple documents | Possible destination | Brand’s role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Camera image or visual reference | Visual Intelligence can match images to app content through an App Intent; visual search can also help find similar items. | A matching app or further product information | An app team can implement Apple’s documented image-matching integration. A brand without that integration may depend on available search results. |
| Content already onscreen | Apple describes searching from onscreen content and across apps. | Search results or a relevant app | Brands can make their app content understandable to Apple’s system, but cannot control every result. |
| Vague natural-language description | App entities indexed in Spotlight can be available to semantic search, including when someone describes something imprecisely. | Relevant app content or an app action | An app team can represent useful content and actions with App Intents, entities, and enums. |
| Local business lookup | Depending on the business, results may include hours, services, reviews, reservations, or delivery ordering. | A business listing or an action such as ordering | Keep business information and available actions accurate in the sources that feed the experience. |
| A product web page | Safari Notify Me can monitor a page for changes such as a restock or price drop. | A notification about a page change | Make availability and pricing clear on the pages customers visit; Apple does not describe this as a ranking signal. |
Apple’s current announcement says Visual Intelligence spans iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. The precise feature flow depends on the device and software experience, so platform-wide availability should not be assumed.

A shopper can use visual input to look for similar items or search from content already on screen. Apple’s developer documentation gives app operators a specific integration path: “Match images to your app’s content and report the results to the Visual Intelligence framework using an app intent.” When a match is found, the result can direct the person into the app for more information.

Apple’s App Store editorial illustrates the intended shopping use case with a search for a mid-century lamp and similar content in apps including Etsy and Daydream. That example shows how Apple presents the feature, not a measured conversion result or evidence that any particular retailer will appear.
What an ecommerce app team can do
1. Audit catalog entities and app actions
If your brand operates an iOS app, ask product and engineering teams whether relevant catalog content and customer actions are represented through App Intents. Apple’s Apple Intelligence and Siri AI documentation describes App Intents, app entities, and enums as ways to make app actions and content understandable to the system.

2. Consider Spotlight indexing for relevant app content
Apple says indexing entities in Spotlight makes app content available to semantic search, including when a person uses a vague description. Review which products, categories, and actions would genuinely help a customer arrive at useful content. Treat this as an app-discovery integration, not a guarantee of visibility or a published ranking formula.

Use accurate names, descriptions, and product images that help people understand what an item is. This is sound usability and content practice, and it may help customers using visual discovery, but Apple has not published a guaranteed metadata recipe for appearing in Visual Intelligence results.

4. Keep local business information current
For physical retailers, verify that hours, services, and ordering information are accurate wherever Apple’s business lookup experience obtains them. The options shown can vary by business; do not assume every listing includes reservations, reviews, or delivery ordering.
5. Keep restock and price information legible
Apple says Safari Notify Me can watch a web page for changes such as product restocks or price drops. Clear product availability and pricing help customers interpret the page they ask Safari to monitor. Apple has not quantified feature usage or resulting sales effects.

What is established—and what is not
Apple documents the user flows and developer mechanisms: image matching through an App Intent, semantic discovery of Spotlight-indexed app entities, visual search, business lookup, and page monitoring in Safari. Those facts support practical readiness work for app owners and retailers.

The cited Apple materials do not establish how many shoppers use each feature, whether a given implementation earns better placement, or what effect it has on visits, conversions, or revenue. Apple’s shopping examples demonstrate intended use rather than commercial performance. Avoid treating feature support as a forecast or an Apple-specific SEO ranking tactic.

Availability and rollout considerations
Apple Support cautions that Apple Intelligence is not available on every iPhone model, language, or region. Before describing a feature as available to customers, test the relevant flow on supported hardware and software, in the languages and regions where your app or store operates. Apple’s announcement of Visual Intelligence across several platform families does not remove those device, language, and regional caveats.
