If Resident Evil will not download, the upgrade pack is unavailable, or your save is missing on Nintendo Switch 2, first identify the exact edition. Resident Evil 7 biohazard and Resident Evil Village previously appeared on the original Switch as cloud versions, while the Nintendo Switch 2 editions are separate listings. Then verify ownership, match the account and region, finish console updates, and use the correct Nintendo save-transfer method. The steps below cover Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil Requiem.
Start with the edition, not the download button
Capcom lists Resident Evil Requiem, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 7 biohazard for Nintendo Switch 2 with a February 27, 2026 release date. Village and 7 also had earlier Nintendo Switch cloud releases. Those older listings and the native Nintendo Switch 2 editions are not interchangeable download paths.

Open your Nintendo Switch 2 HOME Menu and inspect the game title and software information before deleting anything. You are looking for the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of the game you intend to play, not an older Switch cloud listing. A physical original-Switch copy can remain useful, but its enhanced features on Switch 2 are delivered through the corresponding Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. If you do not own the original copy, you need the complete Switch 2 Edition or the native Switch 2 game listing, not an upgrade-only listing.

What the three edition situations mean

Repair a download that will not start or finishes with the wrong version
Work through these steps in order. Stop when the download begins and the correct title appears in your software list.

- Confirm the listing. In Nintendo eShop, read the full product name and verify that it identifies the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil Village, or Resident Evil Requiem. This is especially important for 7 and Village because the older Switch cloud versions are still distinct products.
- Open eShop with the purchasing account. Select the user whose Nintendo Account bought the original game or the upgrade. A different user on the same console may not see the entitlement, even when the software is installed for another profile.
- Check ownership before troubleshooting the network. If you own a digital original, confirm that the purchase appears in the account’s redownloadable software. If you own a cartridge, insert it when the upgrade flow asks the system to verify the original game. The upgrade pack does not replace ownership of the base game.
- Complete the console transfer first. Nintendo’s Switch-to-Switch 2 instructions download digital software after setup rather than carrying every digital installation directly to the new console. Keep the Switch 2 connected to the internet, finish system setup, then open eShop with the purchasing account and redownload the game and any upgrade pack.
- Install system and game updates. Nintendo’s support flow starts by checking that both consoles have the latest system software. Update the Switch 2, then highlight Resident Evil on the HOME Menu, press the plus button, choose Software Update, and apply the available update before judging whether the installation worked.
- Retry with the console awake and online. Do not put the console to sleep while a first download is being authenticated or while an upgrade pack is being applied. If the progress bar is unchanged, cancel only after checking the download-management screen, restart the console, and begin the redownload from the account that owns the software.
If the wrong game icon remains after a redownload, remove that incorrect software entry and repeat the search using the complete Switch 2 product name. Deleting a downloaded program does not by itself transfer or restore a save; handle save data separately.
Get the correct Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack
Nintendo says an original physical or digital Switch game can be upgraded by obtaining its Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. Packs may be obtained through Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Store, a retailer code, or, for eligible games, an included Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack benefit. Nintendo also says that only select games receive this benefit and that the contents vary by title, so membership eligibility does not automatically make every Resident Evil upgrade free.

The original game remains playable on a Nintendo Switch, but features that are specific to the Switch 2 edition require a Nintendo Switch 2. If you have both an original copy and a new console, do not assume that transferring the software installation also grants the upgrade; ownership verification and the upgrade entitlement are separate steps.

Capcom warns that normal operation is not guaranteed when the game, downloadable content, title update, save data, console, or account comes from another country or region. A mixed setup can make an upgrade appear unavailable, prevent downloadable content from applying, or cause a transferred save not to be recognized.
Use one matching regional set
- Use a Nintendo Account region that matches the game release you bought.
- Obtain downloadable content and the title update from the same regional storefront as the base game.
- Keep the save and console in the same regional configuration when possible.
- Do not use a different-region upgrade pack to repair a base game from another region.
After correcting the account or storefront, restart the console, open eShop with the corrected account, and check the game’s redownload page again. Then apply the latest console and title updates. Capcom treats title updates as region-sensitive, so an update that appears in one storefront is not proof that it matches a different-region game.

Choose the right save-transfer method
There are three different Nintendo workflows. They have different prerequisites and different irreversible actions, so choose before pressing the final confirmation.

Nintendo states that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for the nearby save-transfer feature. That is separate from Capcom’s requirement for a Nintendo Switch Online membership when using Resident Evil Requiem’s Save Data Cloud backup.
Move one Resident Evil save with nearby transfer
Use this method when you want to move a particular save and both consoles are in the same place. It moves the file; it does not make a duplicate.
- Connect both consoles to the internet and install their latest system updates.
- Make sure the user on the source console and the corresponding user on the Switch 2 are linked to the same Nintendo Account.
- Keep the consoles close together and powered on. Start from the source console and open System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Send Save Data to Another Console.
- Select the Resident Evil save and choose the destination Switch 2 when it appears.
- On the Switch 2, open System Settings > Data Management > Transfer Your Save Data > Receive Save Data, then select the matching user.
- Read the overwrite warning. If the Switch 2 already has a save, choosing overwrite permanently removes that target save. Continue only if the target file is expendable.
- Wait for the transfer to finish before launching the game on either console.
Nintendo’s warning is explicit: “This does not create a copy of your save data. Once sent, the save data file will be deleted from the source system.” If you need the original console to retain the file, do not use nearby transfer as a backup strategy. Consider a supported cloud backup or the full system-transfer process instead.
Use a full Switch-to-Switch 2 system transfer
Local communication transfer
Choose local transfer when the original Switch and Switch 2 are both available. Follow Nintendo’s system-transfer wizard on the two consoles, keep them near each other, and leave them connected to power and the internet as instructed. Nintendo says that cloud-compatible save data for linked users remains on the source and is copied to the Switch 2 during local transfer. Other data may be deleted from the source as the transfer completes, so read each deletion notice rather than assuming the old console will remain unchanged.

After setup, digital software is downloaded rather than treated as already installed. Open eShop on the Switch 2 with the purchasing account and redownload Resident Evil, its update, and any applicable upgrade pack. A successful system transfer therefore has two visible phases: user and save migration, followed by software downloads.

Use Nintendo’s server option only when its initialization warning is acceptable. The source console uploads the transfer data and is initialized. Nintendo states that the uploaded transfer is held on its server for up to one year before the download deadline. The Switch 2 must connect to the internet and complete the download before that period expires.
Because initialization changes the original console, confirm that you no longer need its local data and that you can sign in to the Nintendo Account on the destination. If you intended to keep the old console playable with its existing data, stop and use nearby save transfer or local system transfer instead, after reviewing those methods’ warnings.
Restore Requiem with Save Data Cloud
Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem FAQ says that on Nintendo Switch 2 you can create a backup of the save with Save Data Cloud, and that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required. Use the Nintendo cloud-save controls for the same Nintendo Account that owns the game, allow the upload to finish on the original console, and then restore the backup on the Switch 2 after installing the matching edition and update.
Cloud backup is not a universal Resident Evil migration service. The documented Capcom statement applies to Requiem; do not assume that Resident Evil 7 biohazard or Village has identical cloud behavior without checking the support information for the exact edition you own. A cloud restore also does not repair a regional mismatch or grant ownership of an upgrade pack.

PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Switch saves cannot be cross-imported
Capcom states: “Crossplay and cross-saves between platforms are not supported.” A save from PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or Epic cannot be imported into the Nintendo Switch 2 version through a Capcom cross-save feature. The Nintendo transfer procedures move compatible Nintendo save data between Nintendo consoles; they do not convert a save from another platform.
If a Switch 2 game starts at the beginning after you played on another platform, that behavior is expected under Capcom’s stated policy. Repeating the Nintendo transfer steps will not make a PlayStation, Xbox, or PC save appear, because those files are outside the Nintendo save system.
Fix common symptoms
“Resident Evil is missing after I transferred to Switch 2.”
System transfer moves account and save information but Nintendo says digital software is downloaded after setup. Connect to the internet, open eShop with the purchasing account, and redownload the correct Switch 2 listing. Then install the title update and obtain the upgrade pack if your ownership route requires one.
“The download gives me the cloud version.”
Cancel that installation and search again for the native Nintendo Switch 2 edition. This issue most commonly affects Resident Evil 7 biohazard and Resident Evil Village, which had earlier Switch cloud releases. The older listing is not the same product as the Switch 2 edition.
“The upgrade pack is visible but I cannot claim it.”
Open eShop under the Nintendo Account that owns the original game, confirm that the base game and account are from the same region, and check whether you are relying on a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack benefit. Nintendo limits that benefit to select games and says contents vary by title. If you do not own the original copy, return to the complete Switch 2 Edition listing instead of the upgrade-only page.

“The game installs but will not start correctly.”
Update the Switch 2 system and the game, then verify that the base game, downloadable content, update, save, console, and account are not mixed across regions. Capcom does not guarantee normal operation for that combination. If the problem began after a transfer, confirm that the destination user is linked to the same Nintendo Account as the source user.
“My old save is gone from the original console.”
Nearby save transfer intentionally deletes the source save after sending. Nintendo describes it as a move, not a copy. A server system transfer initializes the source console as part of its process. Check which workflow you used before attempting another transfer; repeated transfers cannot recreate a file that was overwritten or deleted.
“The Switch 2 already has a save, and I am asked to overwrite it.”
Do not confirm until you decide which progress is valuable. Nintendo warns that overwriting the target permanently removes its existing save. If you need both files, stop and investigate whether a supported cloud backup exists for the exact game and account before proceeding.

Capcom requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership for Requiem’s Save Data Cloud backup. Without that service, use a Nintendo console-to-console transfer method that meets Nintendo’s requirements instead.
Before you retry, verify these five items
- The title is the native Nintendo Switch 2 edition, not an older Switch cloud listing for Village or 7.
- The Nintendo Account signed in to eShop owns the base game or the relevant upgrade entitlement.
- The game, downloadable content, title update, save, console, and account use a compatible region.
- The Switch 2 and the game have their latest available updates, and digital software has been redownloaded after system setup.
- You selected the transfer method whose deletion warning you accept: nearby transfer deletes the source save, target overwrite deletes the existing target save, and server transfer initializes the old console.
Following those checks separates the three problems that look similar on screen: installing the wrong edition, lacking the entitlement for an upgrade, and moving a save with a method that changed or removed the original file. Once the edition, account, region, updates, and transfer method all match, Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil Requiem should follow the normal Nintendo Switch 2 download and save workflows described by Nintendo and Capcom.
