If Pokémon Pokopia will not update on Nintendo Switch 2, connect the console to the internet, run a connection test, then highlight Pokopia on the HOME Menu and press + or −. Choose Software Update > Over the Internet. The currently listed build is Ver. 2.0.1, released September 7, 2026. The update is required for Pokopia’s internet features, does not remove save data, and needs enough free storage. If the download stalls, free storage, restart the console, and retry. Missing Expansion Pass content requires checking the purchasing account, loading the virtual game card or Download Data, and then checking items inside Pokopia.
What to check before updating
Use these checks before changing software data or redownloading anything:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Connect Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet and run System Settings > Internet > Test Connection. Record any error code shown.
- Keep the console connected to power or ensure the battery is well charged.
- Check available storage in System Settings > Data Management. Nintendo does not publish a Pokopia-specific free-space requirement, so leave more space than the download size shown by the console.
- Close Pokopia before starting the update. Highlight the game on HOME rather than launching it.
- If several people will play together, plan for every console to install the same software version.
Updating the game does not erase its save data. Nintendo states that the update must be applied to use Pokopia’s internet features.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsInstall the Pokopia update manually
- From the Nintendo Switch 2 HOME Menu, highlight Pokémon Pokopia.
- Press + or − to open the software options.
- Select Software Update.
- Choose Over the Internet.
- Wait for the download and installation to finish. Do not remove a physical key card or power off the console during the process.
- Start Pokopia and verify the version on its title screen or software information screen.
If the console reports that the latest version is already installed but another player cannot join, compare the version shown on both consoles. A multiplayer session cannot proceed when the installed versions differ.
#1 Best Overall
- Nintendo Switch 2 uses a new standard of expandable memory card called microSD Express (sold separately). This kind of memory card is needed for faster access speeds and to ensure games will run smoothly.
- Please note: Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards. If the microSD cards you have used for Nintendo Switch do not support microSD Express standards, you cannot use them with Nintendo Switch 2.
When the download does not start or remains stuck
Free storage and retry
An update can fail to begin when internal storage or the installed microSD Express card lacks working space. In System Settings > Data Management, remove unwanted screenshots, videos, or software. You can also archive software you can redownload later; archiving does not delete its save data. Return to the HOME Menu, restart the console, and run the manual update path again.
Nintendo does not state a specific number of free gigabytes for Pokopia. Do not treat a generic online storage recommendation as an official requirement.
Restart the network connection
- Open System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings.
- Select your saved network, choose Change Settings, and confirm that the security key and DNS settings are correct.
- Run Test Connection.
- If the test fails, restart the router and console, then test again.
- Once the test succeeds, return to the HOME Menu and repeat Software Update > Over the Internet.
If the connection test displays an error code, use Nintendo’s support article for that exact code. The code identifies a network, DNS, account, or service condition more precisely than a general “update stuck” message.
When a download pauses at a percentage
Leave the console connected for several minutes before cancelling. If the percentage does not change, cancel the attempt, restart the console, confirm storage again, and retry. A different network, such as a trusted mobile hotspot, can help identify whether the problem is specific to the home router; normal data charges and hotspot limits may apply.

Storage expansion
A compatible Nintendo Switch 2 microSD Express card can provide additional room for an update or DLC redownload. Nintendo does not name a specific model or capacity for this problem, so verify current Switch 2 compatibility before buying. Move or redownload software only after the card is recognized in System Settings > Data Management.
Current Pokopia version and what it fixes
Nintendo lists Ver. 2.0.1, released September 7, 2026. This build addresses the following conditions:
- Ho-Oh and Lugia repeatedly descend and reappear.
- Pokédex search cannot find Pokémon.
- The relocation kit cannot be picked up.
- Sound effects repeat.
- The game freezes.
- The game remains stuck on the loading screen.
The same support page records a Brazil rating-setting change updated October 1, 2026. That rating metadata does not change the update procedure.
Earlier cumulative updates
| Version | Release date | Documented changes |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0.1 | September 7, 2026 | Fixes repeated Ho-Oh/Lugia appearances, Pokédex search, relocation-kit pickup, repeating sound effects, freezes, and loading-screen stalls. |
| 2.0.0 | August 4, 2026 | Adds Dive, underwater house building, the portal pod and safe items, and dynamic Ditto print. |
| 1.1.1 | June 18, 2026 | Fixes problems caused when placed items exceeded an area limit and a Ditto facial-expression issue during camera emotes. |
These patches are cumulative. A console moving from an older build to 2.0.1 receives the applicable earlier changes as part of the update process.

Pokopia DLC is missing after the update
Updating the base game and owning the Expansion Pass are separate checks. Follow Nintendo’s order so the entitlement is attached to the account that made the purchase.
Normal recovery sequence
- Update the Nintendo Switch 2 system software.
- Update Pokémon Pokopia using the HOME Menu procedure above.
- Restart the console.
- Open Nintendo eShop with the user account that purchased the Expansion Pass.
- Open the Expansion Pass product page and confirm that it says Purchased.
- If the content uses a virtual game card, select the pass and load that virtual game card. If Online License is enabled instead, choose Download Data.
- Start Pokopia and open Pokédex > Downloadable Content > Check Items.
If the eShop does not show Purchased, you are using a different Nintendo Account or the transaction has not been recognized. Sign out only after confirming the purchasing account; deleting software will not correct an account-ownership mismatch.
Physical key-card copy
For a physical key card, remove the card from the HOME Menu or with the console powered off. Delete the game’s software data, not its save data. Reinsert the key card to trigger the redownload, install the latest update, and redownload the DLC. Then use Pokédex > Downloadable Content > Check Items.
Digital copy
For a digital copy, delete the game’s software data while retaining save data. Redownload Pokopia through the virtual game card or through Download Data with the purchasing account, install the update, and check the DLC menu again.

Deleting software data removes the installed program, not the saved progress. Do not choose an option that explicitly deletes save data unless Nintendo Support instructs you to do so.
Expansion Pass timing
| Part | Availability | What it means if it is absent |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1: Bubbly Basin | Released August 4, 2026 | It should be available after entitlement, virtual game-card or Download Data setup, and the in-game item check. |
| Part 2 | Scheduled for late 2026 | It cannot be accessed before its release window; this is not a failed download. |
| Part 3 | Scheduled for 2027 | It cannot be accessed before release. |
If Bubbly Basin remains unavailable after the account and redownload checks, contact Nintendo Support and identify whether your copy is physical or digital.

Ver. 2.0.1 specifically lists freezes and games that remain on the loading screen among its fixes. First confirm that the software information reports 2.0.1, then fully close Pokopia from the HOME Menu and restart the console. If the problem continues, check for another software update, confirm adequate storage, and use the appropriate redownload procedure for your copy.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not delete save data as a first response. Preserve the save and provide Nintendo Support with the version number, the area or action that triggers the freeze, and whether the issue occurs after a fresh launch or only when loading a particular save.

Why online play or Link Play is unavailable
Online-service requirements
Nintendo Switch Online membership and an internet connection are required for Pokopia’s online features. A local or online multiplayer attempt can also fail when one player is running a different software version. Update every console, restart the game, and have each player compare the displayed version before creating a session.
Link Play may be locked normally
Link Play is not available immediately on a new save. Nintendo’s guidance says it unlocks after approximately 30 minutes of play and reaching Environment Level 2. Some multiplayer options require additional progress. If the menu is missing before those milestones, it is a progression lock rather than an update defect.
Multiplayer checklist
- Each player has an active Nintendo Switch Online membership where required.
- Every console passes System Settings > Internet > Test Connection.
- Every copy reports the same Pokopia software version.
- Link Play requirements—about 30 minutes of play and Environment Level 2—are met.
- The host has completed any extra progress required by the selected multiplayer option.
Choose the fix by symptom
| Symptom | First checks | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Update never starts | Connection test, free storage, console restart | Run HOME Menu manual update; use a compatible microSD Express card only if additional space is needed. |
| Download stalls or shows an error | Record the code, test internet, restart router and console | Follow Nintendo’s exact error-code guidance, then retry the update. |
| DLC is absent | Purchasing account, Purchased status, virtual game card or Online License | Redownload software data and DLC without deleting save data; check items in the Pokédex. |
| Freeze or loading-screen stall | Confirm Ver. 2.0.1, restart, verify storage | Redownload software data using the physical or digital procedure if the issue remains. |
| Online play unavailable | Nintendo Switch Online, internet test, matching versions | Meet Link Play’s play-time and Environment Level 2 requirements and retry. |
| Expansion Pass part is unavailable | Release schedule | Parts 2 and 3 cannot be used before their scheduled late-2026 and 2027 releases. |
