Wait for the page’s final text and layout to appear, then wait for the browser’s font set before capturing: await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);. If the screenshot still uses a fallback or looks different in CI, check the font request and computed styles, then compare the operating system and browser setup with the environment that generated the baseline. A stable screenshot is not proof that the intended font rendered.
Wait for the page state first, then wait for fonts
Navigation milestones and font readiness answer different questions. A page may reach DOMContentLoaded before the text using a web font has appeared or before its font face has settled. First wait for the application’s meaningful ready state and the specific content you intend to capture; then await document.fonts.ready.

Here is a minimal Playwright JavaScript pattern. Replace the URL and selector with the page and content in your test:
import { test, expect } from '@playwright/test';
test('captures the page after its content and fonts are ready', async ({ page }) => {
await page.goto('https://example.com');
await expect(page.locator('h1')).toBeVisible();
await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png' });
});
document.fonts is the document’s FontFaceSet, part of the CSS Font Loading API. Its ready promise signals font loading and layout work have settled; it does not, by itself, prove that a particular preferred family and weight were selected. See MDN’s Document.fonts reference.

- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
Choose a readiness signal that matches the app
Wait for an assertion or application signal tied to the rendered content, such as a visible heading or a completed data state. Do not treat a fixed sleep or network silence as proof that the page is visually ready. Playwright discourages using networkidle as a testing readiness strategy; see its Page API documentation.
Verify the face actually used
If typography is still wrong after the wait, inspect the target element’s computed font-family, font-weight, and font-style, and check the browser’s network log for the font resource. A successful wait does not establish that the intended font file loaded or that CSS selected the face you expected.

Debug a fallback or mismatched font
Work from the rendered element back to the font resource. A wait cannot fix an incorrect declaration, unavailable file, or environment mismatch.
- Inspect computed styles. In the page context, read the target element’s computed family, weight, and style. Confirm they match the values your design expects; the declared family name and the CSS use must agree.
- Inspect font requests. In Playwright’s browser network log or developer tools, confirm the expected font request occurred and note its response status. Check the font URL and whether the file is present in the test environment.
- Review the font declaration. Check the
@font-facefamily, style, weight or weight range, and source URL. If the font is served from another origin, check whether its CORS behavior permits the browser to use it. - Check the content timing. If the page adds or changes text after navigation, wait for that final text before awaiting the font set. A font face needed only by later content may not have been relevant to an earlier state.
- Compare environments. Record the browser engine and version, operating system or container image, headless mode, and font availability for both local and CI runs. Match the baseline-generation environment or keep separate baselines for deliberately different targets.
Make visual comparisons repeatable without confusing them with correctness
Playwright’s toHaveScreenshot() retries until two consecutive screenshots match. That helps stabilize visual comparison, but it does not verify that the preferred font rendered. Likewise, screenshot style or stylePath can control volatile visual elements; it cannot supply a missing font file. Consult Playwright’s visual comparisons documentation.

- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
Playwright warns that rendering can vary with host OS, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, headless mode, and other factors. Run visual comparisons in the same environment used to generate the baseline when possible. If you intentionally test different browser or platform targets, use distinct snapshot sets rather than expecting typography to be pixel-identical across them. Playwright’s visual comparison documentation describes using project names to distinguish snapshot sets.
Troubleshoot a font wait that stalls
First distinguish an app wait from a screenshot wait
If your explicit page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready) does not resolve, inspect which fonts the document is trying to load and whether the page is still changing. Check the current browser and Playwright version, engine, and environment before assuming the wait itself is defective.

Scoped Linux WebKit report for Playwright 1.63.0
A GitHub issue opened September 29, 2026 reports a Linux WebKit screenshot hang in Playwright 1.63.0 while waiting for fonts. It is a version- and environment-specific report, not evidence that font waits are generally broken. Check the issue’s current status and confirm that your setup matches before connecting your failure to it: Playwright issue #37720.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe issue author reports that setting PW_TEST_SCREENSHOT_NO_FONTS_READY=1 allowed capture, but did not repair font state or guarantee settled fonts. Treat bypassing that wait as a diagnostic workaround for the reported case, not a font-correctness fix. If you use it to get a capture, separately verify the rendered face and font requests.

For a hosted capture, ScreenshotNeo provides a one-request screenshot API. This cURL example saves a WebP screenshot of the target page:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the available parameters. ScreenshotNeo accepts and removes cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server lets AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client call screenshot tools. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Does document.fonts.ready prove my preferred font loaded?
No. It indicates font loading and layout have settled, but inspect the target element’s computed styles and the font request to confirm the intended face was used.
Will a longer timeout or screenshot threshold fix the wrong font?
No. More waiting or a looser comparison may change when a test passes, but neither corrects a missing font resource or a mismatched CSS declaration.
