These are documented product capabilities, not results of comparative hands-on testing. Before settling on a tool, check how it handles your actual pages, especially if you need to capture inner scroll areas, redact sensitive details, or produce a specific file format.
How to capture a full webpage for documentation
With GoFullPage
- Find GoFullPage in the extension store for your browser and confirm that the current listing supports your browser.
- Open the page you need to document. If it loads content as you scroll, scroll through the page first so that lazy-loaded sections have a chance to appear.
- Start a capture using the extension, then inspect the complete result for missing sections, clipped content, or unexpected scroll behavior.
- Export in the format available in the current extension listing and save the file with a useful page name and capture date.
With Microsoft Edge
- Open the target webpage in Edge and open the Screenshot Tool using the command available in your current Edge version.
- Choose full-page capture for the whole page or select an area if you only need a specific section.
- Review the capture, add markup if needed, then copy or save it.
Microsoft notes that availability and functionality can vary by device, market, and browser version, so the exact command or experience may differ.
Check the capture before you rely on it
- Confirm completeness: Compare the result with the live page, including the bottom of long pages, sticky headers, and content that appears only after scrolling.
- Check the intended scope: A whole-page image and a selected-area image serve different documentation needs. Capture only what your reader needs.
- Review sensitive information: If the image contains personal or confidential details, verify that any redaction is effective before sharing. Do not assume markup features are available without checking the current listing.
- Use the right output: Choose an image format for visual reference or PDF if your workflow calls for a document. Verify export options in the current tool listing.
- Keep provenance with the file: Record the page address and capture date in your documentation so readers can identify what the image represents.
Known failure cases and practical workarounds
PDFs and browser-internal pages
GoFullPage’s FAQ says it cannot access PDF documents to scroll and capture them. For an embedded or browser-opened PDF, use the PDF viewer’s own save or print options, or capture a visible area with a tool that supports it. Browser-internal pages may also restrict extension access; test the target page rather than assuming an extension can capture it.

Pages with custom scrolling
GoFullPage’s FAQ says some sites use custom JavaScript scrolling that can prevent normal capture. If the result is incomplete, try the page’s ordinary browser scrolling, capture smaller sections, or use another capture method. Check the output instead of treating a completed capture action as proof that every section was included.
Very large pages
The GoFullPage Firefox listing says very large captures may be split into images in separate tabs. If that happens, check every resulting image and preserve their order when assembling documentation.
