First check what kind of playlist you added to OBS: local files and a YouTube playlist use different playback systems. For local files, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. For a YouTube playlist in a Browser Source, confirm the source contains the playlist—not just the first video—and check the embed’s autoplay setup. If you see an error, troubleshoot that error separately; there is no single fix that applies to every case.
Identify which playlist is stopping
OBS can play multiple local files through its VLC Video source, while a YouTube playlist loaded in a Browser Source is handled by the YouTube embed/player. A Media Source is for one local file. Identifying the source type tells you which settings to check first.

- Local files: You added video files stored on your computer to an OBS source.
- YouTube playlist: You added a Browser Source that loads a YouTube embed or player.
- Embed error: The Browser Source displays an error, such as Error 153, instead of playing normally.
If the videos are local files in OBS
Repeat one file with Media Source
If you only need one local video to repeat, use OBS’s Media Source and enable its Loop option. That setting repeats the same file after it finishes; it does not create a multi-video playlist.

Play several local files with VLC Video
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video source to appear; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene that should show the videos.
- Add the local video files to that source’s playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist if the whole sequence should start again after the last file finishes.
- Start playback and check that it advances through the files, then returns to the first one.
Use Loop Playlist for a sequence of files. The Media Source Loop option is for repeating one file.

If the playlist is a YouTube embed in Browser Source
Check that the Browser Source is loading a playlist embed/player, rather than a URL for only the first video. If the source contains just one video, it cannot advance through the playlist merely because the video belongs to one on YouTube.
- Open the Browser Source settings in OBS and inspect the URL or HTML it loads. Remove any private tokens before sharing it for help.
- Verify that the embed/player is configured with the YouTube playlist, not only the first video’s ID or watch URL.
- Check autoplay separately. YouTube’s embed instructions document adding
autoplay=1to an embedded video’s code to start playback automatically. - Test whether playback starts and whether it advances after the first video ends. Autoplay concerns starting playback; it does not by itself establish why a playlist fails to advance.
YouTube’s embed guidance covers videos and playlists, but the documented autoplay parameter is not a universal repair for playlist continuation inside OBS. If the playlist is correctly passed to the player and still stops, record the exact URL format and visible behavior before changing more settings.

If OBS shows Error 153
Use this branch only when Error 153 is actually visible. In a 2025 OBS forum discussion, an OBS forum administrator said YouTube embeds cannot be used as a top-level document, and a forum participant described an HTML iframe wrapper as a workaround. This is community guidance, not a complete official compatibility specification or a fix for every playlist stoppage.

- Confirm the exact error shown in the Browser Source and note when it appears.
- Check current OBS and YouTube compatibility guidance before changing the embed document setup.
- If considering an iframe wrapper, treat it as a community-proposed workaround and test it with your specific OBS version and source.
Use a community script only as a later option
An OBS community resource describes a Lua script that generates a Browser Source URL from a first video and following YouTube video IDs, with autoplay and loop options. It is a third-party option, not an official OBS fix. Consider it only after confirming that the playlist embed is configured correctly and checking whether the player reports an error.

Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you see | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| A single local file ends and stops | The source is a Media Source and its Loop option is off. | Enable Loop to repeat that file. |
| The first of several local files plays, but the sequence does not restart | The files are in a VLC Video playlist and Loop Playlist is off, or VLC Video is unavailable. | Install the matching VLC version, use VLC Video, add the files, and enable Loop Playlist. |
| A YouTube video starts, but there is no next video | The Browser Source may be loading only the first video rather than the playlist. | Verify the playlist is passed to the embed/player. Check autoplay separately; it controls automatic start, not every advancement failure. |
| The Browser Source shows Error 153 | The player is reporting an embed error. | Follow the Error 153 branch and verify current compatibility guidance; do not assume the local-file loop settings will help. |
| The source stops without an error and the cause is unclear | The exact source type, URL format, OBS version, operating system, and point of failure are unknown. | Collect those details and note whether the first video reaches its end before stopping. |
What to collect if it still fails
The symptom alone does not identify the cause. Include these details when asking for help:
- OBS version and operating system.
- Source type: Media Source, VLC Video, or Browser Source.
- Whether the video is a local file or a YouTube playlist embed.
- Whether the first video reaches its end, and whether the player displays an error.
- The URL format with private tokens removed; do not post stream keys or other credentials.
