OBS network-dropped frames mean the computer is failing to deliver video reliably to YouTube’s ingest server, or the configured bitrate is more than the connection can sustain. The counter alone does not prove Airtel is at fault. Start with a wired test, pause competing uploads, check sustained upload headroom, and lower stream settings if needed.
First, confirm which frames are dropping
During a test stream, open OBS’s Stats window and note the network-dropped-frame count, bitrate behavior, and the time any drops occur. OBS describes network drops as an unstable connection to the remote server or a connection unable to keep up with the configured bitrate. It says, “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames.” OBS Project’s connection troubleshooting guide distinguishes these network drops from rendering or encoding lag, which need a different investigation.

This is also different from viewer buffering: a viewer’s playback connection may stall even when OBS is delivering the stream successfully. Check OBS and YouTube’s Live Control Room stream health to establish whether the problem is in delivery from your computer or playback for an audience.
Run a controlled connection test
Use Ethernet and pause other uploads
If the streaming computer is on Wi-Fi, connect it directly to the router by Ethernet and repeat the test. OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. Pause cloud sync, backups, and other uploads; YouTube notes that shared use reduces the bandwidth available to a stream. You do not need a particular cable grade for this diagnostic.

Measure upload headroom, not just download speed
Check outbound upload capacity and whether it remains adequate while the stream and ordinary network traffic are active. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom: “Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).” Its guidance also warns that total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth; count both the primary and backup feeds if you send both. A brief speed test is not proof that upload will remain stable throughout a continuous loop.
If upload varies or lacks headroom, lower the stream bitrate and test again. If needed, reduce resolution or frame rate too. Keep the test conditions comparable—same connection, similar motion and audio, and the same duration—so you can tell whether a change helped.

Match OBS settings to YouTube’s live requirements
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), H.264 video, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. The recommended bitrate depends on resolution and frame rate. For H.264, YouTube lists 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular Airtel connection can sustain them.

Choose the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to fit measured, stable upload capacity with headroom. If the connection cannot carry the bitrate for your selected resolution, YouTube advises considering a lower resolution. Verify the current recommendations in YouTube’s live encoder settings, since the page does not display a publication year and platform guidance can change.

Run a private or unlisted test, watch YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health status, and record any displayed error. Use movement and audio similar to the real loop: a static test image may not expose the same delivery behavior as the actual stream.
If drops continue: isolate the route, settings, and equipment
Try another ingest endpoint and one network change at a time
OBS recommends testing a different server or ingest endpoint to check whether the issue is specific to a service or route. On Windows, you can also test Settings → Advanced → Network options such as Network Optimizations and TCP pacing. Keep Bind to IP at Default. Try IPv4 Only only as a diagnostic; if it makes no difference, return to the default IPv4 and IPv6 behavior.

OBS’s dynamic bitrate option can lower bitrate during congestion and may reduce drops, but it does not fix the underlying connection problem and can reduce picture quality. Change one option at a time and record the result. See OBS’s troubleshooting steps for the current controls and guidance.
Check local software and the wired path
OBS lists VPNs, security software, network-optimization tools, outdated network drivers, Wi-Fi, and modem/router or other network-device connectivity among possible causes. Temporarily test without a VPN or suspected prioritization software. If a security product is responsible, create an OBS exception and re-enable protection rather than leaving protection disabled. Get network drivers from the computer or motherboard manufacturer.

Where practical, test a direct wired path and isolate the router, cable, switch, or extender. Replace equipment only if the isolation test identifies it as the failing component; dropped frames alone do not establish that a router is faulty.

If drops persist on Ethernet with competing uploads paused and a bitrate within observed capacity, preserve the OBS log and collect evidence before contacting Airtel. Note the time and duration, connection type, stream endpoint, OBS network settings, network-dropped-frame count, bitrate behavior, and YouTube stream-health message. Include whether another endpoint or network changes the result, if you were able to test one. Ask Airtel support to investigate the line and route during the affected period.
