Start by restarting Windows and reopening the NVIDIA app. If the error appears during an installation or update, NVIDIA’s general installer guidance is to retry after a restart, then uninstall the previous NVIDIA software, reboot, and reinstall it. These are cautious recovery steps—not confirmed fixes for error 0x0003: NVIDIA’s support article does not diagnose this code specifically.
What error 0x0003 means—and what is not confirmed
The official sources cited here do not establish a specific cause for GeForce Experience error 0x0003 or verify a fix for it. In particular, the available guidance does not show that the code means a particular Windows service is stopped, that your graphics card is faulty, or that one driver or network setting is responsible. Treat the steps below as general troubleshooting, not a guaranteed code-specific repair.

Try the least disruptive recovery steps first
1. Restart Windows and try again
Save your work, restart Windows, then launch the NVIDIA application again. Restarting and retrying is NVIDIA’s first general step for installer issues, although its guidance is not specific to error 0x0003.
2. Repair the app if Windows offers the option
In Windows 11, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find the NVIDIA application, open its menu, and select Advanced options if available. Choose Repair and try the app again. Microsoft notes that Repair and Reset controls are not available for every desktop application; if you do not see them, skip this step.

- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
3. Consider Reset only after checking its effects
If Windows provides a Reset option, treat it as a more consequential step than Repair. Check the information Windows displays and make sure you understand what may be removed or reset before proceeding. Microsoft’s general app guidance does not say that Reset resolves NVIDIA error 0x0003.
If the problem occurs during an NVIDIA installation or update
NVIDIA’s Solving NVIDIA Installer Issues article, updated January 5, 2026, covers general NVIDIA App or graphics-driver installer failures. It recommends restarting and retrying first. If that does not help, its further steps include uninstalling the previous NVIDIA software, rebooting, and reinstalling. Use this sequence when the error is tied to installation or updating; NVIDIA does not identify it as a verified fix for 0x0003.

- Restart Windows and retry the installation or update.
- If it still fails, uninstall the previous NVIDIA software using Windows’ installed-app controls, then restart the PC.
- Reinstall using NVIDIA’s official download source, and check whether the original installation or update error remains.
NVIDIA’s article also describes stopping NVIDIA Windows services and making sure no NVIDIA application is running as part of further installer troubleshooting. Because the source addresses generic installer failures rather than error 0x0003, do not assume a particular service is the cause. Follow NVIDIA’s instructions only in the context of an installer problem.

When to contact NVIDIA support
If the error remains after the steps that apply to your situation, contact NVIDIA Support. Include the exact error message, whether it appears when opening the app or installing/updating software, your Windows version, and the steps you have tried. That gives support a clear account without relying on an unverified explanation for the code.

What not to assume
- Do not treat online claims about a stopped service, firewall setting, or specific driver fault as confirmed by the official guidance cited here.
- Do not buy a graphics card or pay for a repair utility on the assumption that either is required to resolve this software error. The cited guidance supports no such purchase.
- Do not interpret a successful generic installer recovery as proof that the underlying cause of error 0x0003 has been identified.
Microsoft’s Windows app troubleshooting guidance covers general install, uninstall, and update problems; it does not explain NVIDIA error 0x0003.
