If Normal Golf Game crashes on your Steam Deck after a game or SteamOS update, start by installing any available SteamOS updates and restarting the Deck. Then restart the game, temporarily close third-party apps, and test a specific Proton version only if the basic checks do not help. The game is currently listed as Steam Deck Verified, but that rating does not guarantee every build or device will run without problems.
1. Update SteamOS and restart the Deck
Valve’s Steam Deck troubleshooting guidance recommends installing available system updates and restarting when the system is unstable. Open Settings → System, check for updates, install any available update, then restart the Deck and try the game again. This is a general platform step, not a confirmed fix for this game’s crash. 2. Restart the game and isolate third-party apps
Exit Normal Golf Game fully and launch it again. If it still crashes, temporarily close or disable third-party apps installed through Desktop Mode, then test the game once more. Open the game’s Steam Store page and review its Steam Deck compatibility details. Normal Golf Game, developed by Luke Muscat and released on Steam on September 21, 2026, is currently marked Steam Deck Verified. Valve directs players to the Store page for the requirements behind a compatibility classification. 4. Test a specific Proton version if needed
If the game continues to crash after the earlier checks, you can test a different Steam Play compatibility tool. In the game’s Library entry, open Menu/Properties → Compatibility, enable Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, and choose a Proton version. Valve’s guidance is: “Try choosing the latest version of Proton.” If the behavior changes, note the exact version you selected. This is a troubleshooting option, not a Normal Golf-specific confirmed fix; no particular Proton release has been established as the solution.
5. Lower graphics settings if performance seems involved
If the crash occurs alongside poor performance, try reducing graphics load. The game’s Steam listing says that 1080p resolution and low grass density can help slower computers. Treat that as a performance suggestion rather than a proven Steam Deck crash fix; change settings one at a time so you can tell whether they affect the problem. Steam Store listing.

What the available patch note says
The first surfaced patch note, posted September 23, 2026, describes small bug and quality-of-life changes, including extra logic intended to prevent a “blank challenge” bug in the hybrid tutorial.
