Start with the exact error code and identify where the connection fails: joining Wi-Fi, reaching the internet, signing in to Nintendo services, or staying in an online match. Those are different problems, and the right fix depends on which one you have. Before changing settings, note whether another device on the same network can get online.
First, identify what is failing
A Switch 2 can connect to a Wi-Fi router without successfully reaching the internet or an online service. An online match can also drop even when general internet access works. Record the full error code and the point of failure, then look up that code in Nintendo Support; the codes below are a selected set, not a complete directory.

- 2160-8006 or 2160-8007: Nintendo lists DNS, slow internet, wireless interference, and weak signal as possible causes. Its guidance recommends testing with the console undocked and near the router. Nintendo Support
- 2618-0203: The issue may involve the console’s DNS settings or the ISP or DNS service. Nintendo also points to router-maker support if the problem persists. Nintendo Support
- 2318-0203: Nintendo likewise identifies possible DNS or ISP/DNS-service issues. Nintendo Support
- 2123-0301: Nintendo provides general online-connection troubleshooting; follow the steps for the code and test after changes. Nintendo Support
- 2306-0501 or 2306-0502: These online-match errors may mean the connection dropped or timed out. A DNS change is not an established fix for every match drop. Nintendo Support
- 2124-8006 or 2124-8007: Nintendo’s UK guidance associates these with DNS or a timeout, with slow internet, interference, or weak signal as possible contributors. Nintendo Support UK
- 2110-3150: Nintendo’s UK page concerns wireless connection and possible DNS issues; check that wireless broadcasting is enabled and follow the code-specific instructions. Nintendo Support UK
Work through the connection checks
- Check another device on the same Wi-Fi. Try a phone or computer on the same network. If it also cannot reach the internet, investigate the router or ISP before changing Switch settings. This comparison helps locate the problem, but does not by itself identify its cause.
- Test close to the router with the console undocked. Move the Switch 2 near the router and try again. This reduces distance as a variable and follows Nintendo’s guidance for relevant errors. Where practical, move metal objects and other electronics away from the console and router.
- Run the console’s connection test. After each change, use the Switch 2 connection test and note whether it can join Wi-Fi and reach the internet. Change one condition at a time so you can tell what affected the result. Nintendo recommends testing after changes in its code-specific guidance.
- Compare the usual play location and setup. If the close, undocked test works, try the normal play location; then compare docked and undocked under otherwise similar conditions. A difference points toward signal, interference, or setup as relevant factors, but does not prove a particular fault.
- Try manual DNS only when the code or symptoms suggest DNS. Open System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings, select the saved network, choose Change Settings, and inspect DNS Settings. For error 2618-0203, Nintendo describes setting DNS to Manual and gives Google’s public DNS addresses—primary 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4—as an example. These are Google’s service and subject to Google’s terms; using them is an optional diagnostic, not a guaranteed improvement. If it does not help, return DNS Settings to Automatic. Nintendo Support
- Investigate the router or ISP if other devices are affected or console checks fail. Check whether the router is operating normally and contact your ISP if the service appears unavailable. For router firmware updates or a factory-default reset, follow the router manufacturer’s instructions; a reset can change settings for the whole home network. Nintendo recommends seeking router-manufacturer help for these steps in its 2618-0203 guidance. An ISP or DNS-service issue may resolve later or require contacting the provider. Nintendo Support
Use Ethernet as a comparison, if available
A wired connection can help determine whether the issue is specific to Wi-Fi. Nintendo says a USB LAN adapter is needed for wired internet when a Switch dock does not have a LAN port. If you already have a suitable adapter, check that it is compatible with the Switch 2 dock before relying on it. Ethernet is an optional troubleshooting comparison, not a required first purchase or a fix for an internet-service problem. Nintendo Support

When to contact Nintendo
If the issue continues on nearby Wi-Fi and on another known-working network, contact Nintendo Support with the exact error code and a short record of what you tested: whether other devices worked, whether the console connected undocked near the router, and what the connection test reported. A failure on one home network alone does not establish that the console hardware is faulty.
