Modern Warfare 4 has separate controls for music, effects, dialogue, master output, and voice chat. Raising Master Volume cannot compensate for Dialogue Volume being set too low, so check the dedicated channel first.

- Return to the main menu. Make the changes there rather than during a match or cinematic so you can compare the result consistently.
- Open Settings or Options, then Audio. Locate the individual sliders for Dialogue Volume and Master Volume.
- Raise Dialogue Volume. Set it high enough to hear normal conversation, not merely loud explosions. If it was at or near zero, this is the direct fix for silent campaign speech.

Separate campaign dialogue from voice chat
Open Settings/Options → Audio → Voice Chat. Activision’s Modern Warfare 4 communication documentation identifies this as a separate tab and defines Voice Chat Volume as the level of voice-chat output. Confirm that Voice Chat is enabled and set its volume to an audible, comfortable level.
For a clean diagnosis, turn Voice Chat off temporarily and replay the same content. Enable subtitles or captions and replay a section where a line normally occurs. If the subtitle does not appear either, restart the game and test another mission or mode. - Confirm the active output. Make sure the game is sending audio to the connected headset, television, receiver, or speakers rather than a different device.
- Compare stereo with surround or spatial modes. Temporarily use the mode that matches the connected hardware. A stereo headset should be tested in stereo; a surround receiver should be tested with its supported layout. Windows and console menu names vary.

Common mistakes that make diagnosis harder

What if subtitles appear but I hear no voice?
